The sun was high over the desert and it was high heat, the hottest part of the day. She hadn’t wanted to come out now when she should be resting but she was desperate and had no choice. She had exhausted her other hunting choices moon turns ago and she was afraid she would have to move closer to the human cities on the ground for sustenance. It had been a rough couple of moon leagues and she was just barely scraping by at full term. A shaman priestess was proud and beloved they would get help freely from any of the clan while they were mothering their young. But the clan had kicked her out, they saw her decision to keep the child as a disobedience to the gods. They had been foolish and did not want to face the gods’ possible wrath. She knew the gods, knew that they looked down on her child with pride. Normally one was just boasting when they said that but not she, she was shaman priestess of the Stars of Ephites and the gods had granted her with a secret worth her life. One she would gladly protect to that extent. It had meant persecution and being disgraced but She would do anything for Ephites for she was Sevwing, the God touched.
She peered down at the snake slithering slowly down the desert tundra unaware of the danger above. She, the disowned of her own clan for her child. It had been rough at first going from beloved to stricken from all records, and she loathed them for not seeing the signs for not heeding the gods’ words. The clan is doomed for their foolish ways. she thought angrily as she flew silently in circles. Being careful not to cast a shadow and betray her position to the prey below, the little one inside her moved with excitement, feeding off her energy.
He would be a great warrior one day and the United for the gods, this was his purposes the reason she had mated with the strongest warrior of the clans. Ephites had come to her in a holy dream telling her to come with a child to him in the middle of the tundra at a mountain lake made of fire exactly one-year length of moon turns from then. She had done the math and to come and bare the child on the lake of fire she would have to procreate she would have to become with child eight moon turns before she went to the lake, seven for the child and one moon turn for travel. The lake of fire was a full moon turn from where her clan had made up dens. She was no more than seven wakings away from her destination and she could feel the need of the child to come. She had done small workings of magic’s to be certain the first signs of labor were at the lake. Her magic’s and readings would help her bring the child in at the exact time she has given her, after that she knew not what was to happen. Whether she was to raise the pup or to give it to the fires she knew not but as Sevwing, she was compelled to follow Ephites’s wishes and not her own.
She dove at her prey with a vicious snarl to warn the prey, the thing looked up too late and she bit its head clean off and snatched it up with her wicked claws. She landed a few feet away and shook the snakes already still body to release some of the tension built up inside her, it had been building the past few moon turns. For the delicate magic’s she would be working on Lyemyns night would require all to be at peace around and inside her. She must not have a single shred of doubt, fear, or emotion when working or what she had to do would kill both her and the child.
As She ate, her mind wandered to the stories that every shaman priestess learned for you had to know all holy rites and passages of the Stars if you were a full fledge. Her favorite story was one most did not know, one so ancient it was no more than a page in a forgotten book but one that explained how the world has come to be.
The story was a pleasant one and was a telling whether true or not of how this place and its creatures came to be.
Six gods united ruled over the vast plains of Kahaveski. They ruled for many star births and all was peaceful but Ephites god of Rebirth spent many passing’s of time with Mygrate Goddess of Fire and they fell in time, into a deep love. But they could not be together, as being watchers held them duty bound, it taxed them but they both loved their duties with all their heart, They felt stricken with the pain of choosing, being saddened by this they asked the other gods to have pity on them and unite them for eternity. The gods scared of what the power of a child born of two gods could mean; scared it would decide to conquer. They swore to protect the Kahaveski from such a fate at any cost and could see no way around their fate unless they exiled the lovers. The united told them they were never to see one another again and banished Ephites to become God of Night, and Mygrate to become Goddess of Eternal Light making it so they could never spend another second in each others presence. Ephites furious turned his powers on the united before his exile consumed him. Using his magic to create a world where Mygrate’s and he could be together. He became the moon and created all things without life. Mygrate’s became the sun and created all things with life. At dusk their first day they found to their surprise that they could spend a few moments in each others arms. Being able to hold one another, they kissed passionately weeping for joy before their time had passed and they had to separate again. This brief encounter made man flawed but filled with passion for they had become what they were by accident.
The lovers continued like this for some time until they couldn’t take being apart any longer. Mygrate used her newfound magic to create an eclipsing of the sun for one day only. With their stolen time, they spent each moment making love to one another, so it was that when it came time to part the lovers left satisfied knowing they had their stolen times together. Mygrate’s found she was pregnant with the love of time that had built up inside her and gave birth to the second love of her life. And this is how the Jahik came to pass, they were sleek gentle beasts with flowing hair on the wind and streamline coats in every color. Their bodies lean strong and delicately muscular; they had an elongated face on a powerful long neck. Their eyes doe-like and dark blue held an intelligence no one who met their eyes would be able to refute. Their hooves bringing forth musical laughter every time they stepped, and wings that were elegant and strong abled to carry them into the Kahaveski and beyond if they chose. The seemed to be born of the wind itself faster than anything on earth or in the heavens. They were so amazing that the gods took them as pets and they were beloved.
Many lengths passed and Mygrate’s saw that man needed an intelligent friend to love, seeing their loneliness she took pity on the miscreants. She could not fault them for being what they were, and as her first creations of passion, she could not deny them such a simple request. For her oldest children she created a pack of dogs called Hakite to be their loyal companions. But seeing a need that had not yet arisen she decided to take from man a small piece to create a love for him as he slept. She felt his loneliness and knew that a loyal friend would only do for so long, not wishing her child to feel the pain she did she created a beautiful woman to keep him company. Many years passed on and the gods’ children multiplied and grew in the thousands. The Jahik were shy and preferred solitude leaving to become their own clan, while the Hakite stayed a loyal companion to man reproducing quickly and in the thousands. So it was in that time that a male Vehn was born to the pack and grew to be a young adult. As was custom he had to go out for his first kill alone to become a full adult and be able to start his own pack. He had been on his quest for almost a full moon turn when he came across a adult Jahik being attacked by the filth of the ground Sken, seeing that it was injured and looking as if it had fought but couldn’t anymore decided this was more important than his quest. Feeling brave and rather foolish he ran at top speed silently going for the Skell’s neck, biting and tearing its throat out just as it was about to sink its deadly fangs into the poor Jahik’s side. Seeing that he had killed the thing and that the lady was badly injured (for lady she was, there was no mistaking it.) and passed out now that the danger had passed, he went out hunting and brought her back some food and water. When he returned, she was awake and covered in a light soft glow. As he watched her wounds started to heal and stitch themselves back together bones, skin, and tissues all returning to the proper places. Seconds later what had been a ripped open side he thought would kill her now was perfectly normal hide covered in drying blood. She lay there for a long time just panting, marks had passed before she swung her head over and looked him right in the eyes he heard her mind voice ring in his head load and clear.
“Thank you, Vehn I am in your debt not only did you save my life but you took care of and stayed watching while I healed. My name is Alohera” Her voice rang high and sweet in his mind.
Vehn felt an odd stirring in him he had never felt before and looked at Alohera with a friendly grin stretched across his face.
Will you allow me to bring you back to my herd where you, I may thank you properly? Alohera looked at him with a sparkle in her eyes awaiting his answer.
He had a feeling that bringing him there was a high honor and one that had a meaning behind it he could not fathom.
Mygrate’s watching all occur smiled down on her children and seeing their love blossom found the echoes of time haunting her as she watched. Her poor children loved but could not have each other. She became saddened and wanting to help them. On the night of her next eclipse with Ephites, they agreed to let it be possible for that night only the two could be with one another. So it was many moons later that Alohera came to have young of her own. Her herd seeing that she had was chosen by the gods to carry out their will welcomed Vehn into the herd. Their children became a new species called Friserra. They had large wings attached to their slim bodies an elegant neck, short hair with small feathering around the ears and on legs and stomach. They ran short of their mother, but yet the females being smaller then the males were still larger than the father fo their herd Vehn was. They were extremely intelligent and with the same bright blue eyes as Alohera. They were born with extremely sharp claws and very soft silky coats, but the sweetest temper.
Mygrate seeing the beauty that had come of her experiment fell in love and wanted one of her own. Therefore, the Friserra soon became higher than most creatures and humankind being jealous sought to capture and tame them for their own, killing them and selling their fur and skin along with their babies as pets. Seeing the horror of what her first-born were doing Mygrate hid her beloved pets, and so her once quiet and majestic pets grew, they grew for generations accustomed to caves and fighting so she took pity on them and gave them magic to protect themselves. Thus, the Friserra split up in clans to hide from those who sought to harm them. Electing one chosen to carry the magic’s of the clan and protect them from danger. Thus, it had been for generations and so it’s said to be until the end of time the magic's would stay building until again there would come a day when they would be needed. Called for by their creator. Claheel’s kind was a stubborn one and did not accept change unless they had to and so it was unlikely any of those stubborn beasts would ever hear Ephites call or Mygrate's.
This story a record of how they came to be was why she had chosen to be a shaman priestess in the first place. And now her son would be one too. She knew it from the fire in her belly and the strength in the kicks and in her very bones.
She ate her dinner quickly and pushed up into the sky to start for the north and her destiny.
