Dan

Dan’s birthday was perfect. He listened to music in his room and played video games with his friend Zarah. Zarah was new this year to school. They had been shy at first, but now that they were friends, he discovered that Zarah was really very outgoing and a little sassy. Also, they rocked at gaming. When Dan had first told Zarah that he was, well… transgender, they seemed shocked. Their eyes opened wide. At first Dan prepared to apologize and run away, but instead, they smiled.

“Dan, that’s great. Really. I’m so glad you told me. I’m non-binary," Zarah had said. It was Dan’s turn to be surprised, but he smiled, glad he wasn’t alone. Dan snapped back to reality at Zarah’s cry of,

“Die! Die! Take that! Nononono…..YES!” They’d beaten Dan again.

“Rematch?”

Dan smiled, “You’re on!”
