"Paranormal what now?" I manage to sputter out. Of course this sort of reaction induces another onslaught of laughter from Seri and Lucas, who seem to be enjoying my complete ignorance to my current situation. After all the giggles had finally escaped, Seri turned to me to explain.
"It's hard to explain exactly what we do, Joey. It changes from night to night depending on what our client needs. One minute we could be committing murder and the next playing dress up. It's all to help people though." She ends her statement with a smile before pulling me up from out of my seat.
"Seri, I think he needs time to- GAGH!" Lucas tried to finish his sentence before he was promptly interrupted by an onslaught of books followed by another wave of childish laughter.
"Lukie Lukie! You totally fell for it!" A voice echoes from one of the books now laying by my feet. I grab the novel (some crappy romance book with vampires, but my memory's a bit shaky) and opened it up to a random page. Like before, the little ghost girl Paige's form materialized from the words, mid laughing fit.
"Oi, what did I say about pranks with the merchandise? Paige we need to at least try and keep this place clean if we ever want a customer!" Seri lectured as she pulled the book from my hands. Paige only laughed at Seri's serious tone before bouncing to a much thicker encyclopedia still perched on its dusty top shelf. Instead of the usual ink cloud, the pages of the encyclopedia float out from the spine and swirl around in a cyclone, tearing themselves to pieces before reassembling into the same girl I had just seen in my book.
"Hiya! We haven't had a chance to really meet yet! I'm Paige," she holds out her hand to me and I slowly shake it. The girl's energy was insane, almost to the point of being unnerving, but she didn't seem to mind. Once she was done with the formalities it was back to play time with her, which mainly consisted of her trying to climb a shelf.
"Are you going to...stop her?" I ask as the child falls off the shelf for a third time in a row.
Serina looks back at the girl, laughs, then turns to me. "She's already dead, what's the worst that could happen?"
And then the shelf fell.
