“Mm,” my eyes weigh heavy as I attempt to peel them open. I find myself on the couch again, this time sitting up. A heavy weight shifts on my right arm and as I look over I see Selai, fast asleep, leaning on my shoulder. She… Looks kinda cute like this. Taking care to whisper as to not wake the first officer using me as her pillow, I ask the room, “Rin, what time is it?” Instead of an audio response, I see the watch on my left wrist light up. Oh yeah, I’m wearing a watch. I should probably use this more. The time reads 3:08 AM. Ugh.
After sitting for a few minutes more, I figure it best to wake her up so we both can go to bed. Turning my head to her, I shake my shoulder to try and wake the sleeping beast. “Hey, Selai. We fell asleep.”
“Hmm?” As she pushes herself upright she rubs her eyes and blinks them open. She sits up in a half daze. “What time is it?” Her eyes cast a soft glow on our dark surroundings.
“It’s three in the morning… Um, Selai?” She looks up to me, tired and innocent. “I don’t really remember what happened last night. I just remember being really upset. I didn’t do anything too embarrassing did I?”
I can see her cheeks begin to glow a soft yellow in the dark. “Uh, no. Nothing really happened.” She shakes her head in a rather unconvincing manner.
“You’re a really bad liar.” I give a smirk that emphasizes my worry.
Selai looks down at the space between us and lets out a short laugh. She peers her eyes back up to me casting a warm light onto my face. “Nothing important happened. I promise.” As she raises her head I can see her genuine smile that could melt a glacier.
I smile back and nod. “Yeah, I gotcha.” I stand up and lean to stretch my back. “I guess we should be going to bed, huh?” I turn around to see Selai smiling up at me. She eagerly stands up in front me. “You need me to walk you back to your room?”
Selai’s eyes widen in… surprise? “Oh! Uh, haha, no. I can get there myself.” She looks down at her feet again and starts to head to the door. As it slides open, light pours into the room. “Hey Clark…?” I turn back around, confused. “Uh… Good night.” She gives one last smile before walking out.
“Hmm.” I shrug it off and head to the bedroom. Picking up my dirty clothes from the day before, I head to the closet to throw them in the hamper. Stripping down, I toss my clothes from today on top and sleepily stumble my way back to bed. Collapsing into the sheets, I get myself settled in. I stare up at the ceiling above me. “I did something, didn’t I?”
