Josh's phone buzzed, distracting him from Mia's almost naked body on the kitchen countertop. He flinched, took out his phone and glanced at the screen. A look of surprise mixed with confusion flashed across his face.
'What's wrong?' Mia pulled herself up, aware of Josh's halt on his wonderful oral techniques.
'Uhmm.. I gotta take this. Excuse me, sorry.'
He darted across the room, making his way to the living room, placing a bit of distance between himself and Mia. Mia was puzzled, unsure of what was going on. It was then she noticed, how close Josh was standing to one of Alexa's audio device. Mia was curious, debating whether she should turn on the audio input controls.
Her curiosity got the best of her as she pressed few buttons near the doorway of her loft, effectively listening to Josh's call.
Her effort was fruitful, in a way.
'Babe, I can't talk. I get it. Can we just talk tomorrow?' Josh's strenuous voice followed by few inaudible voice. It seemed like a woman's voice. Mia was distraught.
Was he talking to a girlfriend? A lover? Maybe it's just his friend.
'K. I love you too.' Mia's heart sank as Josh finally ended the call.
WTF?
Josh turned around, surprised for the second time that night as Mia stood outside of the kitchen.
'Hey. You.. umm.'
'Heard anything?'. Mia's accusatory words landed heavily in the room.
'It's not really how it seems.'
'Hmm? Okay. Tell me then.'
'I'm not..single.' His word trailed off, obviously striking her nerve.
'Wow. Freaking really? What the hell are you then? Married?'
'No, no. Nothing like that. I'm not married.'
Josh's explanation slightly eased the ongoing tension.
Okay. Maybe he is divorced. Or separated. Fair enough.
'I... I'm engaged. So not married.. Atleast not yet.'
Mia was fuming. Red, hot intense anger drowned what very little sensibilities she had.
'GET OUT. FUCKING GET OUT'. Mia shouted and one of her Christian Louboutin shoes swiftly thrown across the room, narrowly missing Josh's head. He knew instantly she wasn't going to hear whatever pleading he wanted to do.
Mia was a fantastic date, something he hasn't felt in awhile. He wished to tell her that but his eye caught Mia reaching out for more things to throw. This isn't going to be easy, Josh thought.
Mia was pissed and it didn't make matters easier as Josh hastily ran for the exit near her. As the door shut closed with a loud thud, Mia's deep-set brown eyes quivered. A stream of tears followed and Mia fell on the floor helpless.
You've gotta be kidding me!
All the men in the world and she only attracts cheating lying scumbags. Her hand cupped her cheek, her eyes wandered blankly in the loft. Mia has had it. She furiously took out her phone, uninstalled Tinder and dialed Evelyn's number.
As the line attempted to connect her and Evelyn, Mia thought of all her love interests. She was always the one cheated on, never the other woman. As she spoke to Evelyn of how disappointingly treacherous her night was, it was obvious what she had experienced.
Catfish.
Josh pretended to be someone he's not, even going to the extent of justifying it as 'not married yet'.
Is there really truly honest love on the Internet?
