“It’s not a real long story but it’s a sucky one. Me and Chase actually met in an alley way back in New York. That idiot was always running away from the foster home. Ten years ago I got separated from my grandfather. He was on a business trip and he decided to take me with him since he hated the idea of leaving me home alone. On the trip to go get some junkyard cars, I saw a black cat so I chased it away. That was an unlucky decision I made. That’s when I saw a boy come rushing into the alley. You could tell he was trying to hide from somebody because of how hard he was pressed up against the wall. A few adults rushed passed the alley so quickly they didn’t notice the alley. That’s when the boy look from both corners of the brick wall, he sighed then turned his head and saw me. I don’t know how but he could tell I was lost because he asked me if I needed directions. I told him that I was chasing a black cat and ended up here and how I got separated from my grandfather. Then I told him how my grandfather works in a car junkyard, he knew instantly where to take me. I think we went past four intersections and passed by two trolleys before we made it back to the junkyard. When my grandfather saw me his first reaction was to come rushing towards me as he was looking everywhere for me. His next reaction was to thank Chase. But before he could those pesky adults caught him. Naturally grandfather wanted to know what was going on and why were they looking for the boy. They told him that “he ran away from the foster home.” My grandfather told them “he saved my grandson from getting lost out here.” And that “He was a hero.” They just blew him off and took Chase back to the foster home without listening to my grandfather at all. When they left my grandfather pulled out his phone and called Mark Hinderson. They were old college buddies and Mark had owed my grandfather a favor since he was his wingman for this one date Mark went on, which lead Mark to marrying Carry. Grandfather was in luck that day because Mark was just passing through New York that day, he came by in five minutes. Grandfather explained the situation and asked him to do something about it. Mark agree since him and Carry both wanted a kid but Carry couldn’t have any so this was why they were passing through New York in the first place. They immediately left to go find the foster home Chase was in. It took them all day but they found it. When they went in they saw the boy he was on his knees on to of an old time wooden washboard with a sign hanging around his neck saying, “I will not run away again.” Mark went into the registration office and quickly registered Chase as his own child. He didn’t care about the cost of the boy he just wanted a good kid, he wanted his wife to be happy. The boy was instantly released from his torture and let out the front door. When he came outside he saw four people outside waiting for him. A new mom, a new dad, a new friend, and a new him. And that’s how we became friends, wall because of a little bad luck. But things worked out for the better in the end, I’m glad I chased that black cat that day.” Nikeya was in shock, she didn’t know that the kind person she knew today suffered so much in the past. “Wow, that’s just, wow.” Nikeya was at a loss for words, she didn’t know what to say at all. “Yea I know it’s a crazy childhood but it was mine and I had to live with it.” Chase came into the room overhearing the story that Alex had relayed to Nikeya. “Don’t show pity to me. I may not like my childhood but I sure wouldn’t have it any other way.” He said without a worry in the world. He held what looked like a piece of military equipment in his hands. He passed it off to Nikeya and typed in the password so she could get into the VR System. “Now all you have to do is type is your name, your main information, and just rest your finger on the finger scanner that’s connected to the computer.” He showed her what she needed to do. She did as she was instructed and successfully made her user account. Chase programmed the chair Nikeya was sitting in. When he finished the chair went from green and yellow to blue. “Why did the chair just change color?” She asked. “Because that’s the color the computer randomly chose for your color. Blue mean that you go with the flow of things.” Chase said hoping to shed a little information. Nikeya took a slice of pizza as Alex stared at her waiting to see her reaction. She took a bite and all her taste buds were on fire. She didn’t know what she was eating before but it couldn’t compare to what she was eating now. “How is it?” Alex asked with a smile. “It’s unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. How did he do this?” She asked digging into the pizza. “I don’t know ask him.” Alex looked at Chase while saying that. “I don’t know how I do it but I can. Every recipe I look at I can learn instantly and make it better than the person who originally made it.” He also took a slice of pizza. They ate all the pizza and even had lemonade. Chase and Alex both turned on their chair Alex’s chair turned black and red and Chase’s chair turned into a rainbow of colors. “How come Chase’s chair is like that?” Nikeya asked.
A boy has to remember and relive the events that he doesn't ever want to go back to. His life was once filled with happiness, friendship, and love, but is now only filled with regret.
