I couldn't believe I was stuck in Blackhound until spring. The first snow hasn't even fallen yet. It was annoying to think I had to put up with David's mother hen tendencies for that long. Sooner or later, the first snow would fall, and everyone would be stuck in their cabins. I wouldn't be able to sleep outside anymore which James and Cassandra were secretly happy about. I knew they wanted me in the house, but lucky for me they weren't the types to bug me about it when they knew I would oppose. They had a spare bedroom ready for me. It was the same room I rested in while I was unconscious. All the things we got from Walmart were already in the closet plus more that I hadn't notice. They bought me things behind my back.
"Savannah, are you coming?" Lincoln asked from downstairs.
"Hold your damn horses!" I called from my new room as a I threw on a large shirt. It was enough to cover me up for now. Lincoln and Malcolm were waiting downstairs in Cassandra's kitchen shirtless. When I stood in the doorway, I saw that Malcolm was munching on an apple.
"Ready?" Lincoln asked when he spotted me.
"Yeah. You sure you don't want to come?" I asked Cassandra who passed behind me, holding a basket of laundry.
"I'm certain. You go out and have fun, Savannah." I sighed and nodded. It was no use trying to get Cassandra out of this house. She refused to go on another hunting trip. She won't even go for a run which I know her wolf needed. I could see the need in her eyes. Her wolf desired to be left out, but Cassandra was scared. She was terrified after the last trip. I wasn't going to hold her hand and gently pull her to the edge of the water. I was the type to push her in without a floaty.
"Let's go," I said and the three of us headed out.
"Cassandra seems depressed," Malcolm commented once we were far enough away from the cabin.
"She still feels guilty," Lincoln explained.
"But it wasn't her fault."
"Everyone has told her that many times, but if she refuses to believe that then what can we do?"
"Beat some sense into her?" I asked, and Lincoln chuckled.
"I doubt that method would work on a gentle soul like Cassandra."
"James told us that you're planning on moving to a neighboring pack."
"Soon as the snow melts from this place, I'm out of here."
"That's too bad," Malcolm said. "I actually like you. You bring so much excitement to boring old Blackhound."
"My beast and I know what we want, and Blackhound isn't it. We have this feeling. I at least have to try the other packs out. I owe her that much."
"We understand. We used to wander ourselves," Lincoln said. "Our old back was slaughtered by a neighboring one. We weren't that big, and the enemy was power hungry. Eventually, there's always a wolf like that put into power. Only a handful of us made it alive. Jeremiah was one of them. We all wandered around until something pulled our beasts. Blackhound called to us. Packs call to us and we should follow. I don't blame you for following that call. And don't worry about Jeremiah. There was a time when we didn't think we'd ever find out mates."
"That doesn't give him an excuse for being an ass."
"It doesn't," he agreed.
"Let's be honest, brother. Jeremiah has always had his head too far up his ass. He's always thought he was the goddess' gift to the earth. He just isn't used to a female telling him no."
"I feel sorry for the female who gets paired with him." We reached one of the trails and we shifted to our fur there. My wolf was comfortable around these males. She knew they meant no harm towards us and she also knew that if they tried anything, we could easy beat them.
Malcolm's beast was more curious than his twin who knew how to keep his distance. My beast had to snap at his several times already. The three of us ran together. My wolf enjoyed running with them. Even Kyle, that speeding bullet, joined us. He zipped around me in a teasing manner.
We eventually came across game and I let my beast have at them. We hunted until our bellies were full. We even caught some for James and Cassandra. We laid down in the grass belly up, letting the sun bake us. The boys laid around me as if to guard me from any potential threat. It was the natural thing to do. They were males and I was the only female. I was in a vulnerable state. Me laying here like this showed that I trusted them with my life. It was a new feeling. I never felt this at ease in Willow. After my family died, I was alone and never came close to trusting anyone like this. Not even Kian.
