James hadn't returned home when I got back from his office. Cassandra was scrubbing the entire kitchen in a fit of rage. I knew there was no talking to her when she was like that. It was better for her to clean even though I hate it when she got like that. The smell of lemon would stink up the whole cabin and it was so strong. I didn't understand how it didn't bother her. My wolf detested it.
"You know that counter is clean, right?" I asked, and she ignored me, scrubbing away. She would probably scrub until the counter turned dirty from cleaning. I decided to crash the twin's place instead of watch Cassandra flip the cabin upside down with her angry cleaning. When I arrived, I spotted Ryder and Kyle in their living room sipping on a beer.
"What a sweet surprise," Lincoln said when he answered the door.
"Do you mind if I hang out here for a while? Cassandra is cleaning."
"Ah. Ryder told us that Alpha Cole is coming."
"That alpha scares me," Malcolm said as I walked through the door. The television was on, but there was no sound coming out of it.
"What's wrong with your TV?"
"Damn thing is broken and Lincoln refuse to get another one."
"We just got that one! I'm not buying another one so you and Jeremiad can break it. Those two don't know where money come from." I laughed as I sat down on the floor between Ryder and Malcolm.
"Want a beer, Savannah?" Lincoln asked and I declined, settling for a glass of pop. As Lincoln walked into the kitchen, I heard movement coming from upstairs. I growled when I smelled him.
"Savannah?"
"I will beat your ass, Jeremiad, I swear," I growled as he rushed down the stairs.
"And I will help her," Ryder said. "You need to chill out." Jeremiah looked at me in desperation. The bond between us came alive and my wolf felt attracted to this male. I had to remind her that he was our male, the male that was made for us. Jeremiah was a strong warrior, but he wasn't the one for me. I knew it the moment I met him that he wouldn't come close to the male that the moon had prepared for us.
"Are you going to stand there all night or are you going to sit down and have a beer?" I asked as Lincoln came back with my glass. Jeremiad opted to sit down. I knew he wanted to sit next to me, but Ryder and Malcolm weren't moving. Malcolm didn't care about Jeremiah's obsession. He wanted the best spot to watch the tv with no sound. I'm not sure how he knew what anyone was saying, but he was still into it.
Ryder was annoyed by Jeremiah's obsession with me and felt protective. He would never admit that to me, but I could see it in his eyes. I could see it in the way he moved closer to me whenever Jeremiah was close. The bond between Ryder and me grew every day.
I stayed at the twin's place well into the morning. They convinced me to drink one beer and one beer turned into several more. I was stumbling out of the cabin, trying to make it back to James and Cassandra's. I knew I would be feeling much worse when I woke up. As I made my way back to their cabin, I saw unusual movement from the corner of my eye. I felt a little lifted from the beers, but I wouldn't let that slow me down. It took a lot to get us drunk anyway.
I shifted into my wolf and ran after the moving figures. I noticed they slowed down every few minutes to keep a look out. It was understandable for them to be cautious. They were on pack land. I kept close and quiet.
"I can't believe the trouble you got us into," one of them hissed to the other.
"If it wasn't for me, we wouldn't be alive right now."
"You call this living? We're in the middle of unknown pack territory, Noah. We could be killed if spotted."
"We're close to Lancer's. I can feel it. All we have to do is cross the border."
I stepped too close and they sensed me. They tensed up and turned to see me growling at them. These vamps weren't smart. Did they really think they could cross the border without being seen? I wasn't sure how they made this far into the territory, but someone would have spotted them. Hell, someone did.
"We don't want any trouble, wolf," the blonde one growled. His friend grabbed his wrist and they started running. I ran after them.
"James! Ryder!" I linked.
"Savannah?" James responded.
"Vampires are on pack land. I'm chasing them now. They're headed towards the west."
"I'm on my way." The connection between Ryder was fuzzy. I think he had way too much to drink. Men and their alcohol. I caught up to them and was nipping at their behinds. That's when I felt the shock. I felt it course through my body, leaving me paralyzed. I fell to the ground whimpering from the aftershock.
They continued to run until I could no longer see them. They were gone.
"Savannah?"I whimpered again. The pain from the electricity was still there, but not as bad as the initial electrocution. I heard vampires had special abilities, but I never was at the end of them before. I had only seen a vampire once in my lifetime and that was from a distance. I never interacted with one this up close before. "Hold on, Savannah. I just linked Angela."
"Go after them. I'll be fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Go." James ran in the direction they went, and I was sure he linked the patrols in that area. I laid there unable to feel my limbs. The pain became nothing but a haunted feeling after a while. By the time James returned, I was trying to stand on my own.
"Did you catch them?" He shook his head.
"Damn vampires were fast and tricky. One of them paralyzed most of the patrols to escape. Looking at you, I now know that it's only temporary. Thank Goddess for that."
"Dammit so they escaped."
"We'll discuss more about it tomorrow. Right now, we need to get you some help."
"No pack infirmary, James. Help me to your cabin."
"Savannah—
"I'll be fine. If you don't want to help, then I'll manage on my own." James gave in and helped me walk back to the cabin. I leaned against him as support. If I saw that vampire again, I was going to tear into his behind for what he did to me. Being electrocuted hurt like a bitch.
Savannah woke up when she heard us come in and gasped when she saw the state I was in.
"Savannah, what happened?"
"We'll talk in the morning. I need to link David. What happened to Ryder?"
"Drunk too much at Lincoln and Malcolm's. He's going to have one hell of a hangover tomorrow." That thought made me smile. I would have to pay the boys a visit in the morning. Cassandra and James helped me upstairs, and it didn't take long for me to pass out.
The next morning, I woke up to Cassandra and James bickering downstairs. My wolf growled from being woken up, but I let her know that it was a good thing. This would give us time to mess with Ryder. Sleep did me well. I barely felt the effects from last night.
"Morning, you two," I said as I waltzed into the kitchen. They paused their arguing and looked at me as if I spoke a foreign language.
"Someone's super chipper after being electrocuted," Cassandra said.
"Oh those vampires are going to pay if I ever see them again, but right now I'm going to pay Ryder a visit," I said as I reached down under the sink. "You don't mind if I barrow these pots, do you?"
"Of course not. Go on and have fun," Cassandra said, holding back a laugh.
"I have to see this," James said.
"I don't think so. We aren't done talking about this."
"I think we are. I already told you how I feel, but it won't matter to you. He's going to come here anyway and make my life hell." James looped his arm with mine and pulled me out of the house.
"I can't believe you two are still arguing over this. It's her father, James."
"So you're on her side."
"I'm not on anyone's side. I could care less if this alpha comes or not, but I have to live with you two and right now it's becoming unbearable."
"You don't understand, Savannah. The man hates me."
"I know the story," I said, and James groaned.
"David told you too? That man swears it was so funny."
"Let him come, James. He's Cassandra's father. You don't want her to resent you later down the line for separating her from her family. You don't want to be that person."
"You're right," he sighed. "It's just that every time he comes up here, Cassandra lets him make a fool out of me. I know I'm not alpha, but he isn't my alpha. David doesn't find anything wrong with me so why does he need to nitpick everything I do? Especially in my own home. It bugs me and my wolf. We can't stand it, yet Cassandra never sees anything wrong in what he does. We fight over him every time he comes to visit."
"Well this time you won't be alone. You have me to intervene." He gave me a appreciative smile.
"Thanks, Savannah."
"It's the least I can do for putting a roof over my head." We made it to Lincoln and Malcolm's. Before last night I hadn't known that Jeremiah and Ryder both lived with them. Kyle told me that he was thinking of moving in and being their fifth member. He said he was sick of dealing with young stupid wolves at the pack house. I didn't blame him.
Idiots left the door unlocked so it was easy for us to make our way inside. I tip toed upstairs to Ryder's room, which he shared with Jeremiah. The wolf could sense me and woke up as I walked in. I held up my finger to my lips as I got closer to Ryder's bed. James stood behind me holding his cell phone, recording. I got close enough to where I was smelling his stank breath that he was blowing in my face. I raised the two pots above his head and smashed them together, hard.
"Good morning, Ryder!" James and I shouted, causing him to shoot up out of his bed in search of danger. His eyes landed on me holding the two pots and then on James holding the cell phone. He realized what was happening and groaned, throwing a pillow at me.
"Get the hell out."
"I don't think so!" I shouted over me clanging the pots together, making him groan even further.
"You're lucky I'm too hungover to beat your ass."
"Beat my ass? If memory serves me right, it was me who won that fight."
"Whatever," he groaned, hiding under the covers and I sighed in content.
"I think my mission is done." Lincoln poked his head inside with an amused look on his face.
"Are you staying for breakfast?"
"You can cook?" I asked.
"No, he can't," James answered for me.
"I can cook, just not as good as Cassandra and I doubt she will be cooking since you two can't seem to get it together."
"Oh, she's cooking," Malcolm said appearing next to his twin. "I bet she's just isn't cooking for poor James over there."
"She wouldn't do that to me," James grumbled, and Malcolm laughed.
"How much do you want to bet?"
"Fifty," he challenged, and I noticed Jeremiad shake his head.
"Idiot," he muttered as he got out of bed. "Savannah," he then said, turning to me.
"See you guys at Cassandra's," I said quickly, grabbing James' hand and getting the hell out of there before Jeremiah got too far. This was going to be a long winter.
Cassandra had breakfast cooking when we got back, and she wasn't having any of James. James tried to apologize and talk to her, but she was pissed. She was giving him the silent treatment. This only ended up angering him and he stormed up to their room in frustration.
"The boys are coming for breakfast today," I told her as I sat down at the island.
"Do you think I'm wrong?" she asked me.
"Hmm?"
"Do you think I'm wrong and James is right?"
"I think you're both being stupid. I understand he's your father, but can't you see this from James' perspective. From what I've been hearing, your father doesn't go easy on him and you aren't making it any better by trying to soothe the situation. You need to speak to your father."
"You don't understand. I'm my father's only daughter and he's never been able to let go."
"Don't make excuses for a grown man, Cassandra. I know James isn't acting any better than him, but your father needs to know when to let go." She was silent as she thought over my words. I never met her father, so I couldn't give her much more than that. Once I met him then I could give my full opinion. The boys arrived sporting hang overs.
"How was your wakeup call?" Cassandra asked Ryder who growled at her. She laughed as she placed a plate in front of him.
"I'm starved," James said as walked through the doorway of the dining room. Cassandra made a point to not leave a space for him and Malcolm tried to hide his smile. "Where am I supposed to sit?" he asked.
"I'm sure the pack house has plenty room for you," Cassandra answered him. James glared at Malcolm before storming out of the house.
"Don't you think that was a little mean?" I asked with an amused smile because Malcolm was practically dancing in his seat.
"Yeah, Cassandra, you sent the man with an empty stomach. That's just cruel," Lincoln said.
"I think it's lovely."
"That's because you won fifty bucks," I stated.
"Who doesn't love making money?"
