I already memorized the way to school even though I’ve only been there once. I have a photographic memory that only works with directions to places, like there is a map in my head that knows where everything is. I was halfway to school when I heard someone call my name.
“Charlotte wait up!” It came from a male voice that I didn’t recognize. I stopped running and turned around to see who it was.
It was a boy that looked around my age that I have never seen before. Though, he did look somewhat familiar for some reason..
He had faded red hair that you can tell is dyed because you can see his brown roots showing. He looked a little bit taller than me, I was 5’7 so maybe he was 5’9 or 6 ft. He was giving my this big friendly smile, his body type was average.
He had a pair of glasses with blue frames that stopped halfway down the lenses. He was wearing a black T-shirt that said ‘I went outside once. The graphics weren’t that great.’ and a pair of blue jeans.
“Um, who are you and how do you know my name?” I asked the boy.
“You don’t remember me?” The boy replied with a semi-hurt expression. “Well it makes sense, it’s been awhile since we have seen each other.”
“That doesn't answer either of my questions.” I replied a little annoyed.
“Oh right! I’m Lucas, we used to be friends.” the boy said.
“Lucas.” I thought about it, do I know a Lucas? I don’t think so… “The name doesn’t ring a bell.”
“On the last day of second grade you told me that you had to move away. You promised that you would come back and then ran off to your mom.” Lucas responded. Bingo.
I remember now. Lucas, he was my first crush. We met in Preschool and stayed friends until second grade. I had to move away because of mom's job.
“I kinda remember telling that to someone, just not who.”
“Well that someone was me!”
“Oh yeah! I remember now! But, didn’t you have brown hair?” I asked and began walking again.
“Yeah, but I didn’t like it so I dyed it red.” He said catching up to me.
“Oh, it’s supposed to be red? Looks kinda pink to me.” I nudged his arm.
“That’s because it’s fading, I’m going to re-dye it soon.”
“Dye it another color, red doesn’t suit you. Maybe, a lighter color.”
“Maybe, you going to Maple Leaf High?” he asked me.
“Yes. It’s either Maple Leaf High or Greenfield High, and Greenfield High is kinda really far.”
“Yeah, it is. That means we’re going together, cool. ” he responded, a big grin growing on his face as he said the last word.
At least I’m not going to be all alone on the first day. I thought to myself.
“You’re walking there, right?” I asked.
“Yeah. I was going to walk alone, but then I saw you and I thought that we could walk together.”
“Oh, okay.” I responded.
