Andie
"Damnit Andie, wake up!" A female voice hissed at me.
I lifted my head and yawned, I must have fallen asleep during the lecture. I glanced down at my notebook, it was empty, oops. There were also several pencil eraser toppers scattered around my desk.
"For someone so short, you sure are heavy sleep. I eventually started throwing those erasers at you but you still wouldn't budge. I started to contemplate whacking your head with my notebook."
I gathered all the erasers in my hand and tossed them at my friend Piper. Now they were scattered all around her,
"You sure made a mess, Maverick is waiting for us you know." Piper began picking up the little erasers, I picked up the ones closest to my desk. Maverick is her boyfriend and also the only friend I have besides Piper.
"Where are the other students? Did you scare them off? Even the teacher's missing." I asked looking around and handing her little erasers back.
"Well, the lunch bell rang, which also didn't wake you up, the teacher tried to shake you awake but eventually I told him I'd get you up, so he left me in charge of you." Piper crossed her arms.
"I guess I've just been tired," I said.
Someone had cleared their throat, Piper and I turned in the direction of the sound to see Maverick leaning against the door frame.
"Usually you two are waiting outside my classroom, what's the holdup?" He strutted towards us and had wrapped an arm around Piper.
"Andie has been leading a double life. Apparently, he has another name, sleeping beauty." Piper remarked.
I rolled my eyes as I grabbed my backpack and slung it over my shoulder.
"I said I was sorry," I mumbled.
Maverick chuckled, truth is I'm also their only friend. Or at least the only one who's willing to be their friend. Vampires have a hard time making friends because of this aura they produce. Elves have a hard time simply because some of us just lack the ability to express emotions, a common one being fear. Others will notice some of can't feel certain emotions and just wind up leaving us. Our species get along best though. Vampires always have this aura hanging over them, for humans and magicals they get a sense of pure dread and fear. As for me and most elves, we don't sense it. Have you ever had your foot or other body part fall asleep? Elves basically feel that same tingling feeling spread throughout our body instead of feeling fear. It's a feeling that most of us are born without and some elves and some are born without feeling any emotions at all, nothing. A vampire has this dreadful aura that constantly surrounds them but they can also amplify that aura to literally cause people and magicals to be 'frozen in fear.'
We three walked to the lunchroom to get lunch. I usually walk beside them but for some reason, I was dragging behind. I watched as magicals turned their heads in admiration towards Piper and Maverick, they began to whisper and giggle as the couple passed them by. I don't know how they got to be the schools "it" couple, amazing how much attention they receive and I still feel like a third damn wheel.
Vampires are interesting though, Maverick once told me vampires can sense how strong another vampire is. He told me it's all based on how far away you can sense their aura. Maverick isn't as strong, Piper is though and when the two of them are together? I can feel tingling a mile away before I know it's them. I get how they can creep people and magicals out though, the way they always stare at you like you're a buffet or the way they seem to captivate you to lower your guard even when you know you shouldn't. Technically they are a walking corpse, their skin is so pale from the lack of blood circulation or the way their eyes sometimes look so lifeless.
Before we reached the lunchroom, Piper had turned to look at both Maverick and me,
"You two go to the tree, I'll get the food." She kissed Maverick and walked in the lunchroom.
We have a spot we usually hang out at, under a huge oak tree and with a little breeze, it can be really relaxing. Maverick and I headed to our favorite spot and waited for Piper to return.
"Piper and I got a manila folder this morning, seems as if we are to switch this Friday." Maverick leaned against the trunk of the tree.
"Well, you aren't the only one, I also switch out this Friday." I laid down in the grass allowing, my eyes to close.
"Can I see?" Maverick asked as I heard him unzip my backpack.
I scoffed,
"Have at it, you're already trying to fish the folder out."
I heard him zip it again, then heard papers getting shuffled together, guess he found it.
"We have homeroom together at least and you and I share a history class."
"Well, at least I won't totally alone."
I felt the tingling increase and knew Piper was on close by, so I sat up and tried to look alive. Piper had two bottles of coconut water for the two of them and a lunch pail for me.
"Thanks," I said as I opened my little pail. A sub sandwich, an apple, and a small water bottle were neatly organized in the little box. First thing I grabbed was the apple, I couldn't help it, I was starving and the apples here are so juicy. It didn't take long to finish the apple so I began to very elegantly stuff the sandwich into my mouth. I chugged the water bottle and searched inside the box for more food but found nothing. Damn, they should include more food.
"You sure were, uh, hungry," Maverick said.
Oh right, I forgot I was with these two, I looked back at them only to be faced with judgmental gazes.
"Shut up, why am I even friends with you two if you're gonna stare at me like?" I glared back at them.
