The night passed uneventfully and the dawn came waking me. It took a minute before everything settled and my memories reminded me that this was not Etis Online. Taking deep breaths knowing that there was nothing that could be done about my situation at the moment. Today needed to be about foraging and finding anything useful to my survival. Finding an abandoned hunters camp would be the best.
Alic was not visible if he was still in the camp. Which bothered me, he should have given me the agenda for the day. Stopping and looking around it wasn’t like me to rely on others, I had always followed my own path. Even when it ended in disaster, it was something for me to learn from. Making up my mind and eating a few pieces of leftovers from last night. Thankful that the inventory kept things from spoiling for longer. They had lost 3 of their 10 durability overnight.
Setting off into the forest feeling much better about it than yesterday. Not only was my mana pool bigger, my skills were stronger and there was a general understanding of what was going on. Realizing that this wasn’t a dream, this was my new life. Deciding that there needed to be a way to get my bearings. Looking at the trees, made me grimace. Before walking over to one and trying to climb it.
Thankfully it wasn’t too difficult. Reaching the top of the tree and looking out over the vast land that spread out before me. There was something similar about it, but the reason why eluded me. This wasn’t a forest that my character had wandered in, but there must have been something about this area that I had read about. The shape of the mountains in the distance tickled a memory, but it wasn’t clearing up.
It would have been better to climb after the sun had set because then there would have been the stars to help me. Astrology was something I had read extensively on in the game. If this world’s stars were the same, it should allow me to pinpoint my location quickly. Climbing down the tree, careful not to fall. It would be nice to have all of my money from my old life and access to a bunch of different trainers to allow me to learn all of the skills that would help me. Though there was something about learning them this way.
Deciding that Hunting for dinner and searching for usable tools would be helpful. Heading out watching the ground trying to see if there were any tracks that my tracking skill would notice. After a few hours wandering around. A trail caught my attention. Leaning down to look at the tracks it was easy to see the rabbit ones. Smiling and following the trail. It only took a little bit to find the rabbits.
This group had three rabbits, but one was larger than the other two.
Rabbit
Level 1
10HP
Rabbit - Alpha
Level 3
20HP
I was decidedly unsure what a Rabbit alpha was, it was something that I had never heard of before. There was a notification telling me that my tracking skill had gained 10% progression. Which made me smile, any skill leveling was a blessing right now. The way the rabbits were sitting, there was no way to hit all of them and even a double cast would be hard pressed to kill the alpha Rabbit.
Lining up the attack and launching my Arcane bolt at the Rabbit alpha, praying for luck.
Arcane Bolt hit Rabbit Alpha for 14 damage.
Sneak X2
Launching the second arcane bolt finished it off. Unlike my expectations, the two other rabbits launched themselves at me. Killing their leader had apparently upset them instead of scaring them off.
Arcane bolt his Rabbit for 12 damage
Critical hit on a vital area.
Hitting it in the face with a bolt seemed to be the right idea, though the second rabbit, got through and bit my leg. Taking five points of damage, from the bite and it stung. I had known that pain was real here but this was the first time of receiving an attack here.
Slamming a bolt into the rabbits head dealing 10 damage, I guessed that was because the magic had to go through its skull not the inside of its mouth. Placing the three rabbits into my pack. Praying that there would be a camp where there would be some tools that would be able to be salvaged.
Glancing at my skills seeing that this had brought Arcane bolt to 57% of the next level. The Alpha had given me 10 Experience where each of the rabbits had only given me 4 each, which brought me to 20 experience out of 200.
Walking for a few hours towards the mountains, there had to be some places near there that hunters would use. It was about midday when the trees started to thin out, letting me see the blue sky. Though it still showed the mountains a little ways away.
There had been a few groups of wolves and a few rabbits, but thankfully I haven't run into a large pack of either. Six new rabbits and 4 new wolves lined my bag. Which was quickly running out space. Though it had helped level my arcane bolt. The first five rabbits were enough to get it to level 3, and then the rest of the rabbits and the four wolves were enough to get it up to 99%. Just needed one more animal to break into the 4th level. Which would bring the damage up another two points bringing its base damage up to 11.
When that happened, my Arcane bolt should pretty much be able to one shot anything I had seen so far. Though that wouldn’t always be the case there would be time soon where others would come and they would be stronger.
It had also given me 32 new experience points. Which meant that soon, there would have to be a decision about how to spend my attribute points soon. There were ways to level your attributes without using points, but usually, they were through permanency potions. There were ways to train each one. Strength you worked on ways to build your strength, dexterity you worked on moving. Constitution worked by surviving damage. Intelligence you worked on learning more, wisdom required you to deepen your knowledge of magic. Charisma was making people like what you were saying so if they agreed with you a lot the stat would raise to reflect that.
My points could be saved and I could work my skills up the hard way then use points when it was too hard to raise the skills. Though there wasn't a way to level the stats that I would need to be leveled here. It would do no good to save all of the points if I was too weak to move forward later.
Permanency potions were hard to make, and you had to level your alchemy decently before you could even create them. Back when playing Etis online, there were times when I had wanted to learn Alchemy, because the prices for the potions was extensive. After researching what was required to make basic permanency potions, I decided to wait on alchemy and focus on my magic.
Shaking my head to clear my thoughts. Looking around the clearing, I had wandered into. There was a shack in the middle of the clearing, it had clearly seen better days. However, it seemed quiet and abandoned. Walking around the clearing double checking. No one came running out of the shack, no noises alerted me to someone watching.
Taking a deep breath and walking towards the shack, it was easy to be underwhelmed. This was the first building that I was seeing in Etis. Walking in the door, noticing the light drifting in from all of the holes in the wall. There were a few items lying around the open area. There were a set of knives, a bow, and 12 arrows. There was even a set of leather bracers. Though they were with the bow, and they were of poor quality.
Which wasn’t surprising seeing as all of this stuff had been left neglected for a while. Though taking everything sounded like a good idea, there was nowhere for me to put everything that I would be accumulating and I had no need of the bow or arrows, though the bracers would be useful until finding something better.
Equipping them and checked my stat screen changes.
Leather Bracers
Quality: Poor
Defense: 2
Even though the defense score was low, it was better than nothing. These should be able to stop a rabbit bite, though there was the hope that they would be a quick kill soon.
Movement outside of the window caught my attention. Stalking as quietly as possible to the window and looking out. Brought me face to face with a Lizardman. Analyzing him gave me a little information.
Alorthan
Level 2
Race - Alegatum
HP: 70
My eyes widened as the information processed. That was the most health any enemy I’d seen so far had. Though currently, I was unsure if he was an enemy. He could have been using this place as a resting place. It could be his knives that were in my bag.
Alorthan ran into the shack and started yelling before he pulled out a dagger. Lunching at me I released an arcane bolt in his face. But his dagger hit my arm.
Dealt 14 damage to Alorthan.
Arcane bolt leveled to level 4, now has a base damage of 11.
Alorthan hits you for 10 damage, glancing blow.
Fear crept into me, his attack took off a sixth of my health and it was only a glancing blow. Jumping back and launching another bolt at him. This time it only did 11 damage. Taking him down to 55 health. Now his health was slightly below mine.
Launching two more arcane bolts, while not stopping deprived him of another 22 health. But his dagger sank into my side dealing 20 health damage. Wincing while moving away and launching another arrow. This one hit him in the mouth, while it didn’t kill him it did do 20 damage. Bringing him down to 13 health. Granted I only had 30 and another hit or two from that dagger could kill me. Moving around the objects in the room, trying to keep him from being able to get close to me.
Something changed after that last hit. He seemed to enrage and his attack patterns became hectic and hard to follow. The only reason I wasn’t dead yet was the table and chairs that were acting like a wall for me. Another bolt hit him, so far all of them had targeted his face. Which I was okay with because I usually got better damage when it was the head.
It hit for the 11 damage, leaving the Alegatum with 2 health. His eyes seemed to shine and he turned to run, but I launched a bolt at his back. If I let him go, he could follow me from the shadows and attack after I had fallen asleep. Though it did leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Killed - Alorthan
Received 70 experience.
