The Pirates

Eevees suffering

Eevees suffering

Jun 06, 2018

The next morning it only took about an hour to get to the Capital, the journey had been silent and everyone had stayed in disguise. John seemed to be in a less irritable mood but still seemed on edge slightly. Geoff didn't seem too talkative after he threw the knife at Dan, though I am slightly glad he threw it, I had no idea what to do to get out of my situation.

When a conversation, one of the first that didn't involve us escaping things, begun it was when we were taking a break atop a hill where we could see the capital city, which, was much larger than I had anticipated.

"I noticed when people raise their voice you shrink back slightly, any particular reason?" John asked as he stared down towards the sea,

"Not really, it just startles me slightly," I lied as I groomed the horse's manes so that they didn't get too knotted,

"Well you've a split tongue," Geoff commented which earned him a questioning eyebrow raise from me,

"He's saying he thinks you're lying, you know you'll have to learn pirate speech to understand most things on the ship right?" John sighed as he sharpened the sword he'd stolen from the guard he'd impersonated,

"I-I am not lying, what makes you think I am!" I asked slightly offended by his accusation though I knew myself I lied very blatantly,

"Because yer face contorts in horror when others raise their voices near yeh, I'd be dumb ta not realize that yer lyin'" Geoff stated in a plain manner.

I sighed in defeat, it was hard to even try and lie my way out and I'd probably be found out once I was on the boat anyways,

"Back at the village, after mother and father were claimed dead, the villagers took their anger out on me, I was their scapegoat because of course the only reason this could happen to such kind souls was to be cursed by their own strange child," I mumbled looking away from both men, I didn't want to bring up what had happened in the first few years after their death.

"What d'ya mean 'scapegoat'? What'd they do exactly?" Geoff asked, I hesitated, was it really okay to tell them?

"John, as you remember, Mother and Father were well-respected people in the village, they cared for everyone when ill or injured, everyone loved them and they were devastated when they were proclaimed dead. They needed someone to blame and due to me now being the only one with such a strange eye colour the men began to proclaim it was the work of me, their cursed child. Some women, friends of my mother cared for me until one day one of them fell from mothers horse breaking her arm. That was when they decided it was my fault. at one point they mobbed the house trying to drive me away. I stayed solely because I couldn't survive without the things the house provided me with. Though every time I went to the village everyone yelled at me. Screaming it was my fault, they began throwing rotten food at first while yelling at me to just die. But after a while, everything escalated, whenever I was spotted they threw rocks, tackled me to the ground and beat me. They used anything they had on them screaming it was my fault their precious friends had been taken from them." Tears had long been streaming down my face as I trembled hugging myself trying not to remember the horrible torture I endured once I was on my own. I was seven years old.

"Eevee, I-" John began but was cut off by the whinnying of horses behind us. Startled we turn to see Dan, alone.

That can't be good was the only thought I had in that moment,

"Why aren't you in the Capital yet hmm? I would have thought a sorceress such as you would be able to poof you're way there Eevee Valentine," Dan spat my name out as if it were poison, it was rather shocking seeming as only less than 24 hours ago he was flirting with me,

"She's not a sorceress, she's normal. I kidnapped her from your custody, you shouldn't be after her, you parrot strangling milkmaid,' John growled as he pointed his sharpened sword at the lone soldier.

"John, don't." I heard Geoff grumble, I stood in a dumb stupor as the three men began to argue,

"What do you want from her? She's done nothing wrong. She was set up by the horrid villagers!" Geoff growled, he didn't raise his voice but you could tell that he was not backing down without a fight,

"Even so we have to take her to the king for trial as we did last time," Dan growled back in a loud voice, I jumped slightly, I was hoping to get off this island without them knowing about that incident, with wide eyes I shook my head slightly to try and stop Dan from telling them, they don't need to know.

"Last time? What do you mean last time, this has happened before?!" John snarled eyes narrowing to slits as his grip on the sword tightened,

"Not the same incident. Me and dear Eevee here have had more than this one encounter, three years ago one of the villagers sent us a message of a plot against the king, so that she could escape the island without having to have a passport with her." Dan began explaining the previous incident,

The day the soldiers actually arrived though was the day earlier than they had stated, the head soldier, which was Dan, had found the villagers in the midst of planting evidence, even so they had to take me on the account that I had previously 'controlled people with my eyes' which was a load of crap because I have no special power other than scaring everyone.

Once I was in the palace I told the king of the happenings in my village and Dan told him about them planting evidence, I was set free on the terms I had to yet again suffer in the village until I turned 18 of which then I was to return and explain my case again and show if there had been any improvements. As you could have probably guessed there wasn't, the night I returned one of the sheds were set alight and chanting was heard as I rushed to put out the raging fire alone.

Dan told my companions of the conditions of which I needed to meet, I stayed silent throughout the explanation shivering in my spot. I assumed the king would yet again tell me to suffer another three years in order to satisfy his curiosity of my village. I did not want to talk to him again, I wanted to escape. Even if the villagers had not set me up yet again I would have been taken away, but this time it wasn't so simple. The villagers were thorough had everything planned almost perfectly. This time for sure I'd be executed and no longer harras them with my existence.

"Sorry Matey but this here lass is now a member of me crew. ye'd have ta trial her as a pirate. 'Nd I know what ye do with pirates," Geoff said with a sadistic chuckle before he grabbed me by the waist hoisting me onto his horse and hitting it to a gallop.

As I made my way toward the capital I heard yelling happening behind me. I, for some reason, thought it'd be okay for me to look behind me, but oh do I wish I hadn't. Geoff and John were fighting off Dan and many other soldiers. They were outnumbered and overpowered, the other horses following after me sent by John and Geoff as the fighting ensued. I forced myself to look away and look to the docks. If I just get there first. If I find Geoffs crew. I might just be able to save him.
