Roger stared blankly at Lily at the quickness of her answer. She stared back, waiting for him to say something. He nodded slightly, thinking about how to respond.
"You think I should keep my distance," Roger repeated, hoping for clarification.
"Absolutely. Look at you, you're drinking yourself to death. You consistently smell of alcohol and always look like you're going to pass out. You're just twisting the knife when you go see her. You need to move on. Treat it as a rough break up, and now after breaking up with you, she wants to get back together," Lily suggested with a shrug. Roger looked helpless. "She got her dream, and you're just going to end up dragging her back in. Is that what you want for her?"
"Of course not, she deserves better than this life-"
"Then stay away. Even if she falls in love with you all over again, what's the point? You can't have an actual relationship again unless you leave or you bring her back in," Lily explained before shaking her head. "Wait, I thought you said that we can't have our memories removed without becoming a vegetable."
"It's a different procedure. Sonya had no choice, so she had her memory deleted and replaced. Her memories were basically disconnected and lost in her mind. When you quit, it's memory wipe to make sure that you don't say anything, but if it's successful, you can go about your life. The success rate is about sixty percent. However, Sonya will always need someone watching her in case something comes back that reconnects to the memory. She'll never be able to be free of being watched, even if she doesn't know it," Roger sighed, answering her question. Lily shook her head, annoyed with the new information.
"Great," she whispered before straightening. "But I do think that you going back ins't the smartest idea, in my opinion. It's going to keep you from growing, but you can do what you want. I'm not your mom. I can't tell you what to do, just don't drag me into it. I am dealing with enough without getting dragged into a crazy scheme."
"Fair enough," Roger agreed before becoming rigid. Lily looked behind her, wondering if something had appeared.
"What's up?" Lily whispered as Roger looked around.
"You didn't, did you? While I was out?" he murmured as he stood up.
"Do what?" Lily asked, watching him dash into his bedroom. Within seconds, he was dragging a familiar figure by his ear. Lily pursed her lips as she saw Jeremy come into view. Roger looked more exasperated than anything as he sat Jeremy in the chair.
"What are you doing here?" Roger inquired before Jeremy shrugged.
"Just seeing how you two are getting along," he smiled, giving Lily a wink. She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, unimpressed.
"Did you invite him in?" Roger asked Lily, who averted her eyes and nodded. Roger groaned and shook his head. "Don't let Kurt know about this, or we'll have to move. Trust me, that's a pain in the ass."
"It's just me, it's not like a stray vampire just walked in your house," Jeremy teased, trying to ease the tension.
"The problem is that there's a vampire in the house. Just because you can enter whenever you want doesn't mean you should," Roger replied, a little more irritated.
"Aw, but what's the fun in that. I just wanted to pop in for a moment," Jeremy smiled, growing a little more nervous.
"Look, I'm going to let this one slide because I have to, but that doesn't mean I will next time. Besides, it's insanely creepy to enter people's houses! Even of those who have been marked," Roger emphasized as Jeremy sighed.
"My other marked ones never seem to mind," Jeremy mentioned as Lily scoffed.
"That doesn't mean that I don't mind. I like my privacy, thank you," Lily informed, catching on. Jeremy was here to make sure that Lily was still safe and, in simplest terms, still his.
"Is it because I've overtaken your thoughts?" the vampire teased, causing her to turn to him, a horrified look on her face. She didn't want Roger to know about that, but now it was just out in the open. However, Jeremy immediately regretted his comment and looked between Lily and Roger. "I apologize, that was too far."
"Are you done?" Lily whispered, less defensive with a worried look on her face. Jeremy frowned, realizing that he had broken her trust. "Aren't you worried that Kurt will find out?"
"That's why I was trying to sneak, but I got distracted. I didn't realize that was what had happened to Sonya," Jeremy remarked, offering his condolences again to Roger, who didn't say anything in return.
"As you can see, Lily is doing great and is in great health, so I think it's time for you to leave," Roger suggested, pulling Jeremy to his feet. The vampire protested, but allowed Roger to pull him along.
"Well, we'll have to do lunch or something some time," Jeremy suggested as they neared the door.
"Maybe," Roger answered before closing and locking the door, more to make a point rather to lock the vampire out. Roger walked back into the living room, running a hand through his hair.
"That was exciting," Lily grumbled. "How did he get in?"
"Probably a window or something. Don't invite anyone else in, okay? Jeremy is fine for now, I guess, since he's on our side, but I don't want to try and deal with more than him," Roger sighed before heading to his bedroom. Lily nodded as she turned in as well.
