Lucy

   My mom came into the room in the morning. “What happened out there? Is my brother a monster? Am I?” I shout at her.

“Relax, Lucy, I am a little bit disappointed in you but not mad”. She sits at the edge of my bed and explains everything. She tells me that you gain powers at the age of 12 and the law is you can’t tell them until you get powers. If a child finds out before then, that child dies. Boys can be vampires, can turn into zombies, or turn into monsters like Michael. Girls can be vampires, or can turn into things. Me and your father are vampires.”

“But I am not either of those” I point out. “I can control ice and water”.

“You can control water too?” mom asks. I make a wave in the middle of my room. I made it disappear and guess what… everything is dry.

“Wow” Mom says, amazed when I’m done. Then Michael walks into the room.

“Why can’t you do as you’re told?!” he yells. “If you keep breaking the rules I can’t live here anymore! It would be too dangerous.”

“Michael what are you talking about?” My mom sounds very worried.

“Bye Mom, Dad, and Lucy. I have to go.”

“No! Wait, don’t go!” I ran out of the room after him. He was really fast. I chase him for a half hour until I realise I am lost. I can’t believe it. I just lost a brother, and what do I do? I sit in the leaves and start crying.

“Are you okay? Are you lost?” I look up and see that two girls that look about the same age as me staring at me.

“I’m fine” I reply.

“Oh okay, we were just wondering. My name is Gwendolyn.” she says.

“And I am Rhana” the other girl says suddenly.

The person who is talking (Gwendolyn?) has brown hair and pretty baby blue eyes. She is wearing a colorful sweatshirt with jeans.

The other girl who I guess is Rhana has brown hair that goes down to her back. She has beautiful hazel eyes. She is wearing a red quarter length shirt and black pants.

“To be honest I am a little lost. Let me introduce myself I’m Lucy.”

“Ok, we can help find your way back.”

“Um okay. Do know where the neighborhood Wisteria is?” I ask.

“Hey, that is where I live” Rhana says. “We go to my house a lot. You can stop by anytime.”

“Ok” I said nervously. These girls are strangers after all, but I’m slowly beginning to trust them.

“Follow me” Rhana said happily

Before I know it, we are at my house.

“This is your house?” Rhana said. I’ve been wondering who lived there. My house is right over there.” She pointed to a pretty blue house with lots of flowers and trees around it. I smile and thank her. But before I can go, she said “What age are you?”

“I am 12”, I replied.

“So you know about that power thing that everyone seems to have?”

“Yeah”

“What is it?”

I looked around suddenly uncertain. How can I trust these two girls?

“I can control ice and water,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Rhana looked startled. She looks at Gwendolyn and said “She is like us.”

“I know.” She replied.

“What’s going on? How am I like you?”

“Me and Gwen also have strange powers like you. I have sunlight and plants and Gwen has any type of storm.”

I felt like all the air was sucked out of my lungs. People like me? How is this possible? What's going to happen now?

“Do have a nickname for yourself?” Gwen said, yanking me out my thoughts.

“Huh,” I said, confused.

“You know, everyone has a nickname. Usually, people don’t have a choice. What their nickname is depends on your power. But since we are the first one’s to have this power, we get to choose. I’m Lightning and Rhana is Rose.”

I think for a moment. It is really important to be smart about it. Finally, I know. “I am Icicle.” I said.
