“So what are we doing here?” Tabitha asked as they wondered into a medium sized pizza joint. It had a few torn and stained flyers on the walls, next to old dusty posters that exclaimed that the pizza here was the best in the neighbourhood. The flyers had information about concerts passed long ago, and a few numbers on the wall for people looking for musical instrument teachers.
“Well, right now,” Clover said keeping her voice relatively low as she scanned the room. “We are ordering pizza.”
She walked over to the counter where a skinny man stood. He was covered in acne scars, but his purple hair was done up in a sort of high standing Mohawk. He was smoking what looked like a cigarette, but didn’t smell like one. The smell coming out of the bud was one several flowers blended together. It made the store smell fragrant; hiding other smells that might have been wafting around, like the dead rat underneath the freezer that nobody could reach thus could not clean up.
“What can I get for you?” The man said. He had a sort of smile on his mouth but his eyes looked like he definitely didn’t want to be here.
Clover looked up at the menu overhead and took her time reading through the different options. The man did not look like he cared.
“I’ll have a Orginialslop. One slice please,” Clover said. She turned to Tabitha. “And you, what do you want?”
“Um…” Tabitha scanned the menu up and down really fast. “I don’t… I don’t know, I’ll have whatever you are having then,” she said hurriedly.
“Okay, make that two then,” Clover said to the man.
“That all? Anything else you would be wanting?”
“No, no, maybe we will have a drink later but we just want pizza now.”
He nodded and walked into the back room to get their orders.
The man handed over their pizzas. “That’ll be twenty seven, fifty.” Clover took out her purse from one of her pockets quickly and dropped it on the floor. A few of it’s contents spilled out. “Whoops,” she said and scooped up everything really quickly. Then she proceeded to pay the man.
Clover took them to the middle of the restaurant and sat down, slowly eating her slice of pizza. Tabitha looked at hers unappetizingly.
“It’s made from a kind of yellow flower that tastes a bit like some sort of meat, but I’m not sure what. I can never put my finger on it,” Clover said looking at Tabitha taking an uncertain bite of her pizza. Tabby perked up a little bit when she tasted the food.
“Oh, this! This doesn’t taste bad at all! Back where I call home, we have an animal that has hooves and walks on all fours and really long ears. This tastes a bit like that.”
Clover nodded and got back to eating her pizza.
Tabitha looked around uncertainly. “Well, so what are we here for? I mean, I thought we were here for information?”
Clover looked at her. “We are here to eat pizza.”
“That’s… that is it?” Tabitha asked. “I thought the pizza choice was some sort of secret code or something to get information from the man! The way you said you had an idea and didn’t tell me I thought we were planning something.”
“Well, we are planning something. I was planning to get some pizza,” she said. “Now eat it and finish before it gets cold. Make sure you eat it all. It is quiet delicious which is why it’s the most expensive thing on the menu.”
