Harry." Voldemort said, he turned the boy around to see him. Harry's face was distraught, but emotionless at the same time. His eyes were even duller now. Still no sign if tears though. Neither of them said a thing. They just stared into each others eyes.
The next memory came and Harry dared to look. He was 10 now. Voldemort watched a faint smile spread across the boys lips, if only for a moment. Still, the memory seemed to be yet another beating after Harry had shut the door to loud. He had been tasked with bringing all of Dudley's birthday presents in. It was to be a surprise. The beating wasn't as bad because Vernon didn't want Dudley to wake up.
The next morning it was Dudley's birthday. Voldemort looked over at Harry. He there was a small smile on his face, though his eyes were still dull. The dark lord couldn't help but notice that he seemed to be growing to care for the boy. This wasn't good. Perhaps he'd just find a way to enjoy his next beating. Yes, that'll do nicely.
They both watched Harry wake up. There was a spider on his lap. Voldemort waited for little Harry to freak, but all he saw was Harry picked the spider up and put if back in it's web at the corner of the cupboard. "Living in the cupboard I was used to the spiders. Since my Aunt never came in and cleaned, the spiders had gotten used to me. That one I had for a while. I called it Sir. Lancelot at the time." Harry said, surprising Voldemort. It was the first time Harry had spoken it a while. Voldemort only looked back at the younger boy as he said goodbye to the spider before leaving. He chuckled at the sight.
Harry's head shot up. It was the first time he'd heard the dark lord chuckle. Not wanting to ruin his mood, Harry just smiled and watched the memory.
Dudley scolded his parents for not having enough presents. Then he whined about Harry coming with to the zoo. Voldemort smiled in amusement as the little boy's fave light up when he got the left over ice cream. So Potter has a sweet tooth? Interesting....wait! Why do I care?!
Soon, Harry was standing in front of a snake as his cousin walked away bored.
"Sorry about him. He doesn't understand what it's like. Lying there day after day, watching people press their ugly faces in on you." Voldemort was shocked at the fluency of Potters parseltongue. But how does he know parseltongue? Voldemort watched Harry's eye go wide when the snake winked at him and he had to suppress yet another laugh.
As little Harry and the snake chatted bit Voldemort leaned over to Potter. "You know, I never would have suspected you would get along so well with my snake." He said. Harry looked at him in shock. "Your- you mean that that snake was - is Nakity?" Voldemort nodded smirking. Harry looked upset. "What is it Potter? Upset you didn't know?" Harry shook his head. "It's not that, it's just-" he was cut off by Dudley yelling.
"Mum, Dad! You wont believe what this snake is doing!" Dudley shoved Potter to the floor and pressed his nose to the glass. "That boy." He muttered angrily. Voldemort at first smiled proudly at the glare Harry had given the pig, but stood shocked as the glass disappeared and Dudley fell inside. The snake slipped out and looked at little harry. "Thanks" it said, before slithering off.
Voldemort burst into uncontrollable laughter. He even fell on the floor. Harry just watched in shock. Was something deadly wrong?! "You - you let my snake go and trapped - the pig!" He continued to laugh through saving Dudley and the awkward car ride home. That was about 15 minutes. Voldemort stood up and decided he was done. "Okay, okay. That was too good."
The mood was broken by yet another beating and, as promised, a week with out meals. At leased he was aloud water. Either way, Harry hid a small stash of food for when he got punished like this.
Voldemort couldn't help it. He was starting to care for the boy. But in what way? Purely respect of and advisory, right? Couldn't be much more than that.
