Everyone around Dillon looked on in horror. No movement made. No sound heard. They just look at this stone figure, that used to be their friend.
Crack, crack, crack. Echoed through this space. Crack, and with that, the stone covering Dillon's face broke. He gasped for air taking big breaths, everyone running to him.
Amore gave him a bear hug. "I'm so glad you're okay, we thought you were gone forever."
Dillon responds. "Me too." Coughing a couple times.
Caesar sticks out his hand. "Welcome back.
"Didn’t really leave, just became a statue." They laugh. And Dillon pulled Caesar into a bro-hug. After he that walked to Medusa. "I owe you major after this."
She shook her head. "No you don't, I helped fix a problem I started that's all, and now I need to make sure I don't cause anymore problems."
She goes to stand face to face with Mother Earth. "Mother, I want to go back to the tomb."
"Wait." "What?" "Why?" Amore, Caesar, and Dillon respectively ask.
"I'm dangerous." Media told them.
"We found a cure." Caesar said.
"But they would have to be petrified first, I can't let that happen."
Sadness flooded over Amore. "Are you sure?"
"I am." Medusa said. Sending a smile.
"I'm proud of you child, i know this is not easy, but you're doing it anyway, that is a truly heroic act."
"Thank you." Hearing those words meant the world to Medusa.
"And I'm sorry for locking you away against your will, I'm sorry for any pain you felt.”
Tears began to fall from Medusa's face. "I hated it, but I understand why you did it, and anyway now we're together again." She wrapped her arms around Mother Earth. Who hugged back, as the snake haired girl rested her head, on Mother Earth's shoulder.
Medusa is the first to pull away, and wiped her eyes.
Mother Earth looked at her with a question. "When do you want to do it?"
"Now."
With a flick of Mother Earth's hand, they appear in the crypt.
Medusa takes in the place she used to be so scared of. Now she doesn't feel fear, but still has a knot of nervousness in the pit of her stomach.
"All you need to do is step in, and tomb will do the rest." Mother Earth said.
Medusa turned to our protagonists. "Well I guess this is it, I wanted you to know I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused you."
Amore assures her. "None of this was your fault.”
"And if it won't for you we wouldn't had gotten to be superheroes." Dillon said, with a smile.
Medusa returned his smile. She felt happy, not fearful or guilty, just happy. Like a weight has been lifted from her shoulder. Content she prepared to enter the tomb.
Amore can sense Medusa's happiness. Though Amore is sad, Medusa won't get to live her life again. She thought to herself Medusa deserved to have fun, make memories, have friends. Friends. That word triggered her memory, and just as Medusa proceeded to step into the tomb. "Wait!"
Amore's sudden outburst causes Medusa to freeze.
"I almost forgot Jacob, he wanted you to know that you will always have a home at his farm, and a friend in him.
Medusa lit up. Hoping one day they'll meet again. She put one foot after another into the tomb, sat down, and laid back. She noticed a green mist covering her person.
Mother Earth looking down at her. "Goodnight my daughter.”
Those are the last words Medusa heard, as the tomb closed. Her eyes feels heavy, as she fell back, to her eternal slumber.
Mother Earth after sealing the tomb, turned to our three heroes. "Thank you for your service."
Dillon tells her. "It was nothing." Caesar says. "Of course." Amore assures. "It was our pleasure."
Caesar does have a question though. "Now that Medusa back asleep, what happens to the Guard?”
Mother Earth explains that. "When I created Medusa and others, I wanted them to help, to fight, to guard all things, and that is what I want you to do, understand?"
"Yes ma'am." They all said.
It's suddenly dawns on Amore they skipped school, and that her mom is probably gonna kill her. "Guys we have to get back to school."
It hits Caesar like a bus that, oh yeah they ditched.
"I can teleport you back to school." Mother Earth said.
Amore graciously declares. "Thank you so much Mother Earth, you’re a lifesaver."
Just like that they are back on school grounds. Walking to the door, each realizing they're still in guard armor. "Guard." They say in unison. Reverting back to normal.
They continue, for the school. And the moment they step inside, they are greeted by an angry Mrs. Valentine. "Where have you been?" She asked.
What can Amore say? Her heart is pounding. She can't speak.
But Dillon can. "Mrs. Valentine it wasn't her fault, it was mine, see I was going through something, and I ran off, Amore and Caesar ran after me, and they helped me through it, I really needed them, don't be mad at Amore she was just being who she is a good person, and friend to those who need it."
Mrs. Valentine took a moment to process to this. She sighed. "Your next class is about to start, go."
The teens shocked look at each other for a second, before running off.
"Amore." Her daughter stopped in her tracks, while the guys kept going.
"Was what he said true?" Mrs. Valentine asked.
"Yeah." Amore didn't like lying, but it wasn't like she could tell her mom the truth.
"You begged me to go to school, and I let you with the conditions you got good grades, and stay out of trouble, and I will take you out if I have to."
"Mom I can't do nothing, if someone needs my help."
"I know that flea ridden dog you hid when you were little showed me that.” Mrs. Valentine shivered, at the memory. “But I don't want you taking in any flea ridden boys."
"They're not, Dillon and Caesar are good guys, you just need to get to know them." The bell rang.
"Hurry up, I don't want you to miss anymore classes, but remember this conversation isn't over, and you and those two have detention." She hugged her daughter. Glad she's safe.
After that Amore ran off to class, thinking. That could have gone worst. And wondering what detention is like.
She reached the classroom, and saw Dillon and Caesar. Taking the seat in between them.
As she sits down, Dillon asks. "So how did things go?"
"Well I think she's not taking me out of school, so all and all, good."
Dillon's surprised ditching a couple classes, would make Mrs. valentine take her out of school. "Would that really make your mom pull you out of school?"
"Yeah, if it wasn't for my begging and my dad, she wouldn't had let me attend public school in the first place."
"You were in a private school?" Caesar asked her.
"No, homeschooled." She replied.
"Oh, well that explains why I have never seen you before."
"Well my grandfather owned this land which is now my dad's, he loves it to death, so I stayed there my whole life, and only left when my mom ran errands, or took me to the doctor, or something, so with that and homeschooling I don't really know anybody, and they don't know me."
"Well now, you know us and, we know you." Dillon said.
Their teacher speaks to them. "Okay that's enough talking, let's get to today's lesson."
So the class goes on Amore, Caesar and Dillon continue talking. Whispering to each other, as the class goes on.
That night in a place filled with utter darkness. All that can be heard, is a growl.
