It didn’t hurt at all. It didn’t feel bruised to touch either, and my concern rose higher, “Why am I okay?”
“We have a healer in our group.” Lex said.
“Are you okay?” Liam asked, concerned.
“Fine, I think.” I said, the memory I experienced fading from my mind. I feel like it cut off right as something important was about to happen.
“Good, I was so worried.” Liam expressed.
“Oh, shut up, I told you she was fine.” Lex snarled.
“Stop bickering.” I sharply said, “Where’s the sociopath?”
“He’s not a sociopath.” Lex laughed and I clenched my hands into fists.
“He tried to kill me!” I spat and she rolled her eyes.
“He was trying to help you remember. He may have unconventional methods, but he’s mostly sane.” Lex explained and I scoffed.
“H-”
“To answer your question, he’s out getting supplies with everyone else.” Liam cut me off and shot a dark look at Lex.
I grinned as an idea formed in my mind. If the house was empty, that meant I might be able to get answers without any games.
“How long have they been gone? How much longer will they be gone?” I asked quickly.
“Why?” Liam asked.
“They just left and they won’t be back for hours.” Lex smirked, “What scheme’s cooking in your crazy head this time?”
“This is a safe house for you guys, right?” I asked.
“Yeah, why?” Lex asked in response.
“I want to search it.” I replied and I saw Liam nodding in agreement.
“That’s a good idea, we might find something.” Liam agreed and Lex frowned.
“You could just ask. We’re all on your side, Lottie, you don’t need to sneak around to find answers.” Lex said, defending her friends.
“I trust you, Lex, but everyone else I have no recollection of.” I said, and immediately cursed at myself for letting that slip.
“Wait. You remember me?” Lex asked, a hopeful note in her tone.
“While I was out, I remembered part of the night of my twelfth birthday.” I replied.
“Seriously? That’s amazing, Charlotte.” Liam smiled.
“So, John did help.” Lex pointed out and I shook my head.
“I still don’t trust him and I will give him no credit for this.” I said, shaking my head, “This stays between the three of us.”
“Of course.” Liam said, then turned to Lex, “Can you handle hiding this?”
“Of course I can, I care about her more than the others and far more than you too.” Lex snapped, arms crossed over her chest.
“Let’s get searching.” I reminded them, trying to defuse the situation brewing, and storing Lex’s comment to think about later.
“We should split up, we’ll cover more of the house.” Liam strategized, “Lex should go with one of us though, so she can’t hide anything she finds.”
“You little-”
“I’ll go with Lex.” I spoke over whatever insult Lex was going to throw at Liam.
“Fine by me.” Lex snapped.
“I’ll go through everything upstairs, and you guys take the downstairs.” Liam said and I nodded in agreement.
