“Okay okay, inhale outhale, inhale outhale.” I said to myself, I was so scared that even my words started falling apart. Once I calmed down, I entered the stairs again and started to go down. The voice of the singing girl was still audible, but I was doing my best ignoring it. Halfway down the stairs, the girls voice got louder abruptly and I was starting to lose my confidence again.
Though since I was halfway down, I started moving quicker. Then I reached the second floor, there was one floor left. Unexpectedly the voice suddenly stopped, I stopped too since I felt at risk if I went down. Then what replaced the singing voice was a loud and eerie laughter, I got stunned at this and just jumped down the remaining stairs and ran out of the building.
Now I was outside the building and still running to where I left my horse, I didn’t stop for a moment and mounted my horse then immediately left the city. Why was there a girl in the city, singing in a room with flickering red lights by herself? Why did she suddenly stop singing and start laughing? Why didn’t I see her?
Sometime later, I had reached the seventy-five percent mark. There were villages, mourning about something. The mayor stopped me before I could leave the village as he said it was getting dark and that I should camp for the night, I knew this too, but there was something off in this village. I asked him what they were mourning about.
He then told me simply that they had run out of food, I told them that I’m meeting a deadline and that I can’t stay. They wouldn’t stop trying to make me stay, then that’s when I notice how the villagers weren’t covering their faces to cry, but to cover the food that they ate raw. I forced them off my horse and left that village as fast as my horse could move, I don’t want to be food.
I didn’t stop moving at night and didn’t rest at all until I reached the lake, then when I did reach it, it was pitch black and my horse ended up walking into the water. Deciding to sleep, I gather some dead branches to start a fire. With the stars above my head and my horse stuck in the lake, I fall into deep sleep.
-at sunrise the next morning-
I was half-awake when I heard people conversing next to me. “Who is this kid, did he come for the event?” “Most likely. Sigh, well at least Exiliosa is getting more attention now…” “Wake him up, if he is coming for the event then he can help us put the crates unto the boat.” One of them then shakes me to wake me up.
I sit up with my eyes till glued shut and they then tell me that I had to help them if I was to go to Exiliosa, I nod until he got confused and walked away. Then I went back to sleep. Later, he comes back to wake me up a second time. I got up and rubbed my eyes, stood up and as soon as I fully gained my senses I helped them put the crates on the boat.
There were a lot of boxes to load unto the ship, including my horse. All’s well that ends well though since we finished it in no quicker than two hours, yes that’s fast. As they were finishing up the crates, they start lifting the anchor. Then they got on the boat and checked if they got everything, they turned to me and waved goodbye. I waved back…
But then I realized that I was supposed to be on that boat, “Hey- Wait! Wait for me!” I shout as I race to the boat.
