Late morning, April 22, 2051. Spring had given way to summer, the cold days seemed distant as the sun glared down on the many denizens of the city of Los Angeles. Many started to don the summer clothing, some only going for thinner clothing while others chose to expose a lot more skin. Much of the population were indoors trying to get away from the heat, making use of every source of cooling that was within their grasp, the rare few decided to leave and make use of the outside.
Schools were on break, there was a rather large population of children at the park this time around despite the glaring sun. Some parents took some precautions, but for the most part the children were as playful and as rowdy as they always are. Among a group that had recently finished a game of hide and seek, a brown-haired girl ran up to one of the benches under the shade.
“Mommy!” She calls out to a certain woman at the bench, carrying something she got from the group in her hands. The mother, a woman by the name of Volt, seemed a lot different from the girl. While the girl had brown hair and dull grey eyes, the mother sported black long hair and a pair of eyes that were light blue.
Volt watched her daughter get close before she spoke. “What is it?” The mother inquired. Her daughter hid whatever was in her hands.
“I won something!” The girl exclaimed, then presenting what she had won. A small shiny rock that shone blue. “We found it by the lake!” She told her mom “and we played hide and seek! It was fun!”
“That’s great Hazel.” Volt replied, a small smile formed. Hazel gestured her mother to open her hands. She obliged, and the stone was placed on her palms.
“It’s like mommy’s eyes! Bright blue!” Hazel said, getting close to her mother. “And look! It also has lightning!” Hazel added, pointing out a crack in the stone. Volt smiled.
“It does.” She said, looking at the stone then back to Hazel. How simple a child’s mind was, to see that a flaw was also something that made a precious stone beautiful. The mother smiled, then she patted Hazel in the head.

Victoria looked up, watching the scene that inspired the writing unfolded across the park’s lake and at the children’s playground. The black-haired college student smiled, watching from a distance as the mother seemed happy about this small gift and the child’s enthusiasm skyrocketed. Big smiles were shared between the parent and child.
Victoria then looked around, taking in the view that was the park. Sitting under the shade she held her phone up and watched as couples and families had picnics by the lake, while the odd business man or jogger was going along the dirt and stone path. Victoria watched, wondering what else her character would notice and what she could add into the thread post. Maybe the thoughts of her character? After all, a lot was on her mind-
Then she heard the ping she had grown to recognize. She looked at her phone and she saw that she had got a message. From a moderator no less.
| TheGreatWolf99: Hello there Tesla. Is everything going according to plan on your end? |
It’s usually alarming to suddenly get a message from a moderator, but for Victoria it was something common. After all she was part of the moderator team in this roleplay, a group of roleplayers who set the world, lore, and main story that the roleplay will undertake. Though, plan? She was about to ask, then she remembered.
| VTesla26: …It’s going according to plan. Do not worry Wolfy. |
| TheGreatWolf99: I see. And do not refer to me as Wolfy again, please. Wolf is adequate enough a name.
I do have to remind that we only have a week for the twist. I and Sir Aquilla are already prepared, though I have not heard from you yet Tesla. |
Victoria sighed. It seemed like he’ll keep bugging her this week about that plan. How will she get him off his back?
| VTesla26: I’m already prepared. I just need to set up the sequence of events. |
| TheGreatWolf99: I see. Mind telling me how you will go about it? |
| VTesla26: I’m making the post. I’ll have it up over the day. |
| TheGreatWolf99: Alright. |
Sometimes she wondered why he was chosen by Aquilla, though she then remembered Aquilla’s words.
'He has a knack for playing the evil characters. Remember what happened in the previous RP? That was the nastiest and most unforgiving character I had ever seen.
We need these kinds of characters with what me and Jake had planned for the main story.'
She shook off the thought. She then looked to her post and remembered that it was about a peaceful day between mother and child. Between her character and the young girl she had grown to protecting. She read through it and frowned, she remembered her job. She deleted it and got up from her spot. She looked to the area where the child and mother were, but they were long gone. Must have left as Victoria talked to Wolf.
She frowned.
At the café near her home Victoria settled in. One order of coffee and a plugged laptop later she stretched her fingers and stared at the empty text box. She figured that if she was going to at least follow what the others want she would need to do something drastic to Volt’s development. Something that would steer her off her current path for various reasons. She typed ‘The’ before she paused and deleted. She looked at the box, typed, hesitated, deleted, then typed, only to delete.
Half the coffee later, Victoria decided to do some napkin planning. Using the provided café napkins and a pen to plan out where this will all go, it usually worked. She laid out Volt first.
“She’s 24, has lightning powers…Three other friends and an adopted daughter…” Victoria mumbled, finding a sequence of events to be difficult to achieve. She doesn’t remember anything about Volt’s past to use, the present situation of her character doesn’t help either. She tapped the table with her pen before she decided that she needed help.
She decided to ask a certain moderator she trusted.
| VTesla26: Hey Jake. |
It wasn’t long before Jake replied.
| Jake41ification: Yo Vic, haven’t heard from you since we discussed about Hazel.
I assume you want to update the character description again? Volt does seem like she’s settling down. |
| VTesla26: Not really, it’s something else. I was setting something up with Volt, but I need help with the planning. |
| Jake41ification: Alright, go. Shoot me the details. |
| VTesla26: Volt is a superhero that has a high approval rating. She has got close to three friends and is particularly close to one. She even has an adopted daughter.
I need to make her into a villain before next week, but I’ve been hitting a wall. |
There was some pause. But then a message came.
| Jake41ification: …I assume this is for that plan Aquilla brewed up? The betrayal? |
| VTesla26: Yep. I sidetracked a bit and I need help setting up before the event. |
That really doesn’t excuse her though for not keeping the theme early on.
| Jake41ification: I see. Just give me a second to think something up. |
Victoria felt quite guilty. This was planned a month back when Aquilla and Jake had picked her and Wolf to be the co-moderators this Roleplay. It hinged on hers, Wolf’s and Aquillla’s characters betraying the heroes in favor of the villains. She had written a throw away character with just the right amount of reason to join the villains at first, perfect for the situation that would follow months ahead.
Now though…
Ping.
| Jake41ification: I gave it some thought and this seems like a tough one unless you want to go to extremes. It might not be so receptive and could be seen as forced if we attempt something like that without much reason. |
Victoria frowned, but then another ping.
| Jake41ification: HOWEVER, I had a thought and I looked at her character description. I noticed that you haven’t gone too much into Volt’s past.
The background here says that she has lightning powers and that’s it, seems a rather shallow reason she started this RP as this isolated and closed off person who worked alone if she could turn it on and off willingly.
In that case, I have an idea. You willing to hear me out? |
Victoria sat up.
| VTesla26: I’m listening. |
