My last period was art. Finally. I was about to burst if I didn't have art soon enough. Art is my medium. I express myself with it. I was there early because we had a supply teacher for History who let us out early. I like learning about History but it's only bare-able because Daniel's there. As the class filed in one by one, some laughing, some with her hoods down, they all sat in their seats. The teacher slumped down in his chair, and pointed at the board.
It looked like he had written the task in sharpie and it had slowly faded out, but you could still manage to make out the words, even though a few letters were missing. As their names were called out, a small yes was heard.
"Registration. Let's go. Luke, Ted, Poppy, Lana, Hannah, Greg, Skye, Freddy, Sam, Will, Faye... Faye?"
The door burst open and in stumbled a girl who obviously knew her fashion style. She had short brown hair and fair skin. Her eyebrows didn't have one hair out of place and on her back, she carried a yellow FJALLRAVEN KANKEN backpack, with a swell water bottle in her hand. She strutted through the desks until she found the one next to me was empty and sat down smiling my way.
"Faye. You're late. Again."
"Respectfully sir, there's a difference between late and being fashionably late."
The teacher rolled his eyes and continued down the list until he got to the end.
"And lastly, Alexis... Alexis?"
It was only then I noticed the blue haired girl was sitting in front of me. Hm. Alexis. I don't like it. The teacher pointed at the task on the board and sat back down in his chair, falling almost instantly asleep. A few people snorted in laughter.
'Create a project of your choice that reflects something about the world we live in. It can be to do with history that has had an impact on us today or it can be to do with present day media. You can use any medium you wish to use'
Welp, I guess this is what I'm doing for the rest of the year.
I take my sketching pencils out of my bag and start drawing in my notepad, oblivious to the fact that everyone was looking my way. I looked up for a second and the whole classes eyes bore down on me. All except Alexis. I looked down again and continued drawing. When I was done, I came up with a rough sketch of some lily flowers arranged to look like someone’s face in a pond.
I get my phone out to take a snap of it and send it to Daniel who almost immediately replies.
Danyyyyy: OMGGGG. THAT’S SO GOOD
Skyeee: Aw, thanks. It’s for my art, although tbh, I doubt the teacher will even look at it.
Danyyyyy: You got Mr Fleck. He’s only sad because his wife left him so he’s kind of given up on life. Not many people know though, so they think he’s a douche-bag but he’s just kind of depressed. He was nice before though.
Skyeee: Oh. And how would you know that?? XDD
Danyyyyy: I have my sources . In other words, I basically overhear the teachers every day because I’m practically invisible XDD
I chuckle quietly and put my phone back in the pocket, putting the finishing touches on the sketch. I’ll draw it properly later, on my tablet at home.
I put my pencils away as the bell rang again and got up just in time to see Alexis putting her drawing pad away. She had done a drawing of a cute blue cat that had wings. It was good. Especially for just a doodle.
As I walked out, I noticed she wasn’t leaving the class. Hmm. Weird.
As I entered the hallway, I instantly caught a glimpse of Daniel near a locker trying to hit on a girl, and failing miserably. I laughed in my head silently and took a picture, sending it to Daniel with the caption: ‘good job, I think she might even tolerate you XD’.
His phone vibrated in his pocket and he signalled to the girl to hold on, as he opened the lock. A grin crossed his face as he looked up and around to try and spot me. As his eyes locked onto mine, he put his middle finger up, making me laugh even more.
He said goodbye to the girl and made his way over to me.
“Was I really that bad?” He asked with a grin
“Are you kidding? It looked like she was ready to walk away. Don’t you know how to sweet talk a girl?” I tease.
Daniel punches me lightly on the arm.
“Shut up. Just because I’m not good with girls, doesn’t make you any better than me.” He fake pouts.
I laugh and shake my head.
“Aw, it’s okay, I’m sure your tiny biceps will someday get a girl’s attention. For now, though, us singles got to stick together.”
He laughs and nods in agreement.
“So, you take the train or walk?” He asks.
“I take the bus to school and walk back home. I live about 20 minutes walking distance so it’s okay. What about you?”
“Ah, I take the train. You see, I’m right on the other side of town. Let’s just say the area isn’t the nicest of them all.” He chuckles awkwardly.
“Ooh. Well, do you wanna come around to mine? We can sit and chill and watch a movie or two. We still have some lasagne left in the fridge. It’s amazing, my mum is so good at cooking it’s unbelievable.”
“Seriously?” He asks, curiously. “Yeah, sure. No-one’s ever asked me around before.” He smiles sheepishly.
“Well, I guess I’m your first.”
I wiggle me eyebrows and nudge him slightly and he laughs.
“I wish you were my first. Sadly, the first time for me has already past.” He smiles sadly.
“Really?” I ask, as we start to walk out of the school. “What was it like? Because, according to my friend, she said it was fucking amazing. Is it the same for guys?”
“Uh, I don’t know. It was a while ago, so I don’t really remember.” He says vaguely.
I get a feeling that it’s a sensitive subject, so I decide not to push it.
“Ah. Okay. Well, get ready for the time of your life my friend.”
