“Nathan!?” called Claire who was keeping the door closed from the hordes of zombies outside, Nathan snaps out of his flashback and runs to Claire. “Get away from the door!” says Nathan, Claire steps away from the door and Nathan uses his shotgun to shoot through the door and hit the zombies outside. Claire looks out the window and sees more and more coming to them, “We’re surrounded! There’s too many!” she cries. Nathan keeps shooting at them, but then he asks himself… How did it come to this?

-flashback-

Nathan walks around the suburbs; the once playful home he knew was now just rubble. He stumbles on his broken house door, he looks around and sees his mother, half eaten and crushed under a building. A weapon is required for the most basic of survival and luckily enough Nathan’s metal bat survived and is there in the rubble, but It’s right next to his mother which has turned.

Too scared to go near it, Nathan picks up some rocks and starts throwing them at his mother. He tries to hold back his tears as he picks up bigger and bigger rocks, until eventually he holds a brick in his hands. He looks at his mother and throws the brick at her saying “I love you…”. The brick hits his mother in the eye smashing her head and Nathan cries.

-flashback end-

Claire shakes Nathan, “What are you doing?! Stop spacing out and start shooting!” she exclaims. Nathan hands her the shotgun and some rounds and he runs to the back of the room, he starts trying to crack the password to the vault door. “Hurry up over there! They’re starting to come in through the windows!” screams Claire as she moves to Nathan and shoots the intruders.

Nathan yells at Claire telling her that he can’t focus when he’s being rushed, Claire tells him to keep quiet and open the vault. After a few seconds, the vault opens and they run inside. “Close it now!” shouts Claire. Nathan closes the vault and he falls unto the ground panting, “That was tiring…” he tells Claire.

“Why do you keep spacing out? We could have died!” asks Claire, Nathan stays quiet and shakes his head “I’m sorry…” Claire sighs and looks around them, “The security room is connected to the vault, over there we can check when the zombies are gone, but I’m pretty sure there are zombies there as well”

Nathan looks around as well, “We should probably rest first though…” Claire agrees and starts barricading the vault door, Nathan helps her as well.
