Hello?

A knock on a door

A door with no one behind it

But how can you know

If the door is closed because it has been vacated

Or closed because it is hiding something

You will not know until you walk in

Nervously, because although no one answered your hello

That does not mean no one is there

Some people wish to be left alone

And will not answer your hello

If the person behind the door answered your hello

You would walk in confidently

Knowing they wanted you to be there

As it is, you walk in slowly

Hoping you’re not disturbing anyone

But you need to know what’s behind the door

Is anyone there?

There is no one there

But you will not know this until you’ve explored

Each and every empty room

Left alone by someone

Why aren’t they here?

Who knows. They know. But nobody had been able to tell you

If there was anyone behind the door

And now you find out for yourself

There is no one
