Quinoa is not a safe choice at all.
I thought it was a grainy-y type thing? And I was right!! But what I didn't know is that it has. Such. A weird. Texture. It's like eating noodle-rice, and not in a good way. So halfway through my otherwise delicious salad, I realize that I can't eat another bite. As a result, I'm just sitting there, looking like an ungrateful dink, surrounded by people who are having a good time.
"Sadira, what's on your mind? You haven't said a thing." Ethan chuckles and stretched languidly. Sadira looks at him, and he chucks a napkin at her, which bounces off her forehead.
"Hey, whoa there children, calm down. Remember the last time?" Ariana leans forward.
"What happened 'last time?'" I ask, picking up the napkin and tossing it to Sadira, in case she wants revenge.
"OH YEAH, so ETHAN HERE was messing around, you know, being ETHAN, and he's like throwing napkins at Sadira, Avery and I, and this lady comes over and she's like. Can y'all stop. THIS IS A CHRISTIAN ESTABLISHMENT." Ariana all but yells at Ethan, who had just thrown another napkin at Avery this time. Where is he getting all these napkins?? "But he keeps doing it! So Sadira fucking leaves us and sits in the booth behind us, because Ethan was being a hooligan, and the lady comes back over and asks us to leave. You wanna know what Sadira was doing when we left? She finishes her food, and comes out twenty minutes later."
"Yep." Avery nods, wresting the napkin holder away from Ethan.
"You don't like what you got?" Sadira asks me.
"Um. Yeah, I'm just- uh, full." I push my Kalamata olives around a bit.
"Uhhh huh." Avery crosses her arms.
"LIKELY STORY," Ethan shouts, then starts cackling uncontrollably.
"Ugh. Let's ask for the bill before they can kick us out. Again." Avery grabs the napkin holder before Ethan can get to it, again.
"Excuse me, but I'm going to have to ask you to leave," A waitress comes up to our group, looking slightly embarrassed.
"No problem. Sorry to bother you. I think one of us," Ariana glares at Ethan. "Came pre-drunk."
"I'm going back to Starbucks." Avery says tiredly, picking up her purse. We all stand up and throw our trash away, neatly stacking our trays. As we step out the door, Ethan bursts out laughing again.
"Oof. I'm not driving him back. Nose goes!" Ariana taps her nose a whole millisecond before Avery, who shakes her head and sighs.
"Good job." Back at Starbucks, Avery lightly smacks Ethan. "I can't believe this. Kicked out of a restaurant the second time this month. My God."
We all order and take our seats, Ariana getting her usual, Sadira, Avery and I ordering mundane things. Ethan orders something terrifyingly complicated.
"Why do you order something complicated and different every time?" Ariana demands, sticking a straw into her coffee.
"Do you know how many people order these weird, complicated things? A LOT." Ethan pulls the lid off his coffee, slaps it back on, pulls it back off. It's kind of hypnotizing to watch. "If I have to suffer, I'm making other people suffer with me. Besides, sometimes they actually taste really good."
