Also based on the comments I'm getting I just want to say YES this situation is weird but nobody is forcing themselves to do anything... The only thing that has happened is that Sooch decided that he finally wants to be honest with Howie, and to come through with the proposal he made in chapter 7 when they kissed, which was to give Howie a chance if he enjoyed it. He’s just going to take a neutral stance with Howie and he’s just going to see where their relationship will go from there. Nothing is guaranteed at this point.
Well this is completely realistic, it's not the "if it's you it's ok" trope at all. Happened to me when I was a kid, I was pretty much a rampant homophobe until I got to be friends with someone who I liked more than friends and only after we kissed for the first time I was able to begin to face the possibility that I had been in denial for years. Took me another 10 years or so to come to terms with myself and even put a foot out of the closet. So the way Sooch reacted to this situation is not perfect, but reality isn't either. At least he's being totally honest, he's not promising things will work out. I really hope whatever the outcome is they remain in friendly terms.
Howie and Sooch are friends and floormates at Raisley University. Howie secretly has a thing for Sooch. Sooch just wants to make it through the semester. Will they lose their minds?!?!?!?!
