“Jaylin, I don’t know about this.” I looked down at myself; Jaylin had dressed me up in a knee length yellow dress, the sleeves where long and the dress waist tight agents my body, buttons started at the waste and buttoned up to the middle of the chest. A tie hung from the collar and covered the little bit of cleavage that showed. She had me put on white knee high socks and leather brown high heels that covered my whole foot.
“Belle, you look good. All you ever wear are those baggy sweaters and this isn’t even revealing.”
“You can see my boobs.”
“Hardly.” I looked myself over in the mirror. I guess it wasn’t to revealing and it was cute. I looked at Jane, she wore a sleeveless, tan colored, lace topped dress. The skirt was flowy and came down to her knees, she slipped on leopard print high heels and checked herself out in the mirror. She fixed our hair and we headed out to the front of the school to meet the guys.
Adam looked good in his blue jeans, black t-shirt and leather jacket. He looked almost surprised when he saw me, he gave me a crooked smile and watched me walk around to the passenger door. I looked at the back to see Zan and Jane snuggled close in the small back seat. I turned back around and stared out the window while we drove. Adam and I didn’t really talk during the drive while Jane and Zan chatted away in the back. How is it so natural for them? They make it look so easy. A buzzing sound caught my attchen and Adam pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and put it to his ear.
“Yeah.” He lisoned for a moment and then answered. “I am.” He barked into the phone. “I know what I’m doing! I don’t need your help or your itinerary.” Adam barked into his phone once more before ending the call. He turned it off and tossed it into the glove box, his large, warm hand brushing against my bare skin. He glanced over at me for a second before turning his gaze back to the road. I went back to looking out the window and wondered how much longer we would be stuck in this uncomfortable situation. Forever and a minute later we arrived at a small town and parked in front of a cute little boutique.
“Well what should we do?” I asked after we got of the car. It took a moment to decided, in the end we ended up walking across the street to the small diner for lunch. We chose a booth in the back, Zan and Jane took one side making me scoot in and sit next to Adam. I kept playing with the hem of my dress, hoping that it didn’t rise to high up. A girl who looked to be our age walked over to us. She wore a sheer blue tank top and light green skirt that fell to her knees. Her long black hair flowed around her, falling to her waist.
“Hello, how are you doing today? My names Dessa and I’ll be your server, what can I start you off with?” we placed our drink orders and started to look over the menu. Zan and Jane seemed to be having a great time. They kept giggling behind there menus. I glanced at Adam, he looked angry as he looked at his menu. I sighed and looked at my menu, I really wasn’t paying attention to my menu so when Dessa come over to take our orders I just spotted off the first thing I saw on the menu. It wasn’t long before she brought us our food and boy was I surprised by what I ordered.
“I can’t believe you ordered all that.” Adam said, staring in shock at my plate. I ended up with two chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, two biscuits, corn, and a slice of apple pie and vanilla ice cream. I couldn’t believe it myself. “Can you eat all of that?”
“Ah, yes I can.” I dug in to my food and with the first bite I knew I was heaven. It was so good, tender and juicy. Before I knew it my plate was empty and everyone was staring at me with surprise.
“Gotta love a girl with an appetite.” Zan said and Jane laughed. Adam nodded and just continued to stare. Uncomfortable, I excused myself and headed to the bathroom. The restroom was small with one sink and mirror and two stalls. I stared into the mirror, I saw the same girl I always do staring back at me. A nice looking girl with fair skin, long brown hair and green brown eyes. The door opened and our waitress walked in. She smiled at me and I moved so she could wash her hands.
“He likes you; I can tell. The whole time he couldn’t stop looking at you.”
“Are you sure that wasn’t because I made a pig of myself.”
“You didn’t make a pig of yourself. You may have had a lot of food but it the way you eat that says what kind of person you are. You ate with grace, not at all like a pig, and besides a man likes a girl who can eat.” I smile grimly. “The boy likes you. I think if you open up to him a little he might surprise you.” I nodded and thanked her before heading back to our table. When I opened the door to the restroom Adam was waiting for me.
“Ah, Jane and Tarzan headed out so I waited for you.”
“Oh, thank you. Where did they go?”
“Um, I’m not too sure, but they said they would meet up with us later.” I nodded and we walked out of the diner. With no real plain on what to do next we started to walk. We both stayed quite until Adam’s phone went off; he must have grabbed it from the car while i was in the restroom.
“Hello? Yes, I did…. No, I’m not sure….Yes I am.” He stopped talking for a minute and let the other person talk for a moment. It was hard to figure out what was going on when I could only hear Adam’s side of the conversation and he only gave short clipped answers. “Really? Alright. I’ll try that, thanks.” He hung up his phone and slid it back into his pocket. “While you were in the bathroom I went out to the car and grabbed it so we could keep in touch with Zan and Jane…I have some where I want to take you.” He said looking down at me. I nodded my head and he took my hand and led me where he wanted to go. We ended up in front of a small shop, it looked old and run down. Like no one had been there in a while. We walked up to the front door and he pushed it open.
“Oh…My.” I gasped. The place was completely open on the inside, with white painted walls and a vaulted ceiling. Rows and rows of shelves filled the room and walls.
“Do you like it?”
“Yes.”
“It’s a small bookstore, not a lot of people know about it. Lumiere and I found it some time ago. A little old man owns it, He has the most interesting collection of books I have ever seen.” I started walking down one of the isles running my fingers over the spines of the books.
“I love it. Thank you for bringing me here.” We spent the rest of our time at there, I read books to him. We laughed over some of the titles. He told me about his favorite books. We drifted from talking about books to other things like talking about our hobbies and our pasts. I love that he brought me here, we got ready to leave and when we walked outside I was shocked at how dark it was. I didn’t realize we had been in there that long. “Where do you think Tarzan and Jane are?” Adam smiled at me.
“Zan’s favorite place.” Adam grabbed my hand again and ran with me down a bunch of different streets until we came to a wooded area. We took a path that was clearly visible and followed it until we came to a large hill. We climbed the hill and I noticed that the trees where getting thinner and thinner until it became clear and open. We found Zan and Jaylin laying in the grass looking up at the night sky. I looked up from where I stood and gasped, I’ve never seen anything like it. The black sky glittered with diamonds. The sky was so clear and there was nothing else around to disrupt our view that we could clearly see every little star in the sky.
“It’s beautiful.” I murmured. My feet slid as I walked forward, not paying attention to where I was going. My arms flew back to catch my balance when someone caught me. I looked to see who had caught me and found Adam’s face so close to mine.
“Are you okay?” he asked in almost a whisper. Not wanting to break the spell we had wrapped ourselves in I nodded and parted my lips to take a small breath. He leaned closer and I lifted my chin slightly. It felt like time was going so slowly.
“Hey you guys hurry up or you’re going to miss it.” Tarzan yelled braking our spell. Adam slowly let me go and I steadied myself. We laid down next to Zan and Jaylin and looked up at the sky. The same beautiful stars still hung there, but then it seemed like they were falling.
“Oh, wow.” I whispered
“It’s a meteor shower.” Adam whispered to me. I’ve always lived in the city so I was never able to really see the stars. It’s almost…
“Magical.” I whispered. Adam took my hand and held it in his. If this was a first date or just an outing with friends I wasn’t sure, but I know no one will ever be able to top it. I looked away from the sky for a second to look at Adam. He’s so handsome with his long, light brown hair and blue eyes. To everyone else he’s known as the beast, but to me… he’s just Adam.
