Luckily after a few minutes, she finally started to move a bit. Then she got up, “Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry Emily. I don’t know what came over me. Are you okay?” I was really concerned. I didn’t mean to hurt her. Emily didn’t say anything. She just was standing there with her eyes wide opened and her mouth ajar. I guess she was shell shocked that little old me was able to send her flying like that.
But now that I thought about it. That was impressive how I handle the situation, and rather barbaric of me. I didn’t think I ever wanted to do that again.
For a spare moment Emily continued to look at me dumbfounded. She had yet to say anything. I hope I didn’t cause her brain damage. I didn’t think I could live with myself if I did. Well, since she was able to get up, and stand on her own two feet. I just assumed she was okay. I then picked myself up and dusted off my dress.
I felt really bad for what I did to Emily. It was all those stupid animal crackers fault! If it wasn’t for them, I would never have been in this situation in the first place. I then grabbed my animal crackers from the floor, and marched right over to the disposal bin. “These evil things belong in the trash.” I said to myself. But before I tossed them away. I gave it one last look. What was I doing? I couldn’t just throw away my animal crackers. With its slightly sweet and light colored deliciousness, bake to perfection in the loveable shapes of our favorite animals. Lions, tigers, and bears, Oh my. ¬¬What was I saying? Animal crackers weren’t evil. They were sent down from heaven. To put smiles on all the little boys and girls faces who were lonely just like me. I did feel bad, but I think I would feel even worst if I were to throw them away. So I just placed my animal crackers safely back in my backpack. You know what they say, hate the crime, not the animal crackers.
As I was leaving my tummy started to growl. Although animal crackers may be a delicious snack, they should never replace a good balance breakfast. And with all the excitement going on, I totally forgot about how I didn’t have any breakfast, and it was the most important meal of the day. I couldn’t go the whole day without breakfast, so I quickly checked the clock to see if I had enough time to grab some eggs and toast. Luckily it was just eight o’clock, and class didn’t start until eight forty-five.
But when I barely took a few steps forward. I heard a loud stumping noise coming from behind me. When I turned to see what all the commotion was. I found it was Emily. I had completely forgotten about her, but something was wrong. She was no longer just standing there with her mouth opened and looking dumbfounded. She was stumping her feet really loudly, and her face had turn completely dark red. You could see a vain in her forehead popping out, and she was huffing and puffing as if she couldn’t breathe. “Emily are you-” I tried to speak but she had cut me off.
“You are so dead!” She shouted. I think she was infuriated with me. But I didn’t have time to think about it because she was charging at me like a bull, and all my instincts were saying, you’re in trouble now, move those short legs.
So I quickly skedaddled on out of there, but Emily was hot on my trail. In fact, I think she was gaining on me. “Get back here you coward!” she blurted out. I didn’t care what she called me. There was no way I was stopping, my fear made sure of that.
As I kept running, I heard Emily’s steps getting closer and closer. I knew if I just kept running she would eventually catch me. I had to do something I just didn’t know what. Where was my miracle powers when I needed it?
Just then I saw a class room with its door opened and the lights on. If I could just make it in there I would be safe. But all my hopes soon faded away as my clumsy self-stepped on the end of my long dress, causing me to fall down and slide forward. With only just a few feet away from safety, I tried to pick myself up and make it, but it was too late. Emily was already standing in front of me. She then picked me up by the collar again. “You stupid Crybaby! I’m going to make you wish that you were never even born!” She said with her arm pulled back. “I’m going to pound your face in!”
“You really don’t want to do this Emily. How about we share some animal crackers?” I said, but I knew it was pointless. There was nothing I could do. I felt no magical powers or anything.
“It’s too late for that now! Say your prayers.” She replied. This was it, I was a dead girl, and on the first day of school too. Just barely ten minutes in school, and I already had gotten myself killed. I didn’t even get a chance to try and make friends. I wanted to cry but I couldn’t. I guess I was all out of tears. As Emily was just getting ready to throw her first punch at my face. I closed my eyes, and tried to embrace myself for the blow. But as I waited, she never did hit me. She just stopped all of a sudden. Then she put me down real gently and patted my head. I became very confused at this. Did she just have a change of heart?
“What’s wrong?” I said. “Don’t you want to pound my face in?” I knew that sounded weird, and I probably should have thanked my lucky stars, and went on with my business. But when you were as confused as I was. You wanted to hear some sort of explanation to clear things up.
“Baha, oh Sophia you’re such a jokester. Why would I want to do that?” she said nervously with a fake smile. I didn’t have the slightest clue what Emily was talking about, or why she even had a change of heart. But before I could say another word. A strong firm voice came from behind me.
“Oh? So that’s what this is? Just some joke?” when I looked behind me, a huge smile came across my face. It was my last year teacher Miss Hardy.
“Yep that’s exactly what this is.” Emily said while holding her fake smile. Now everything was starting to make sense. Emily had let me go because Miss Hardy was watching her this whole time.
“Well it doesn’t seem like no one is laughing.” Miss Hardy said.
“That’s because it’s an anti-joke.”
“Oh I see, well here’s an anti-joke for you. If you don’t leave Sophia alone, I’ll have you expelled on the first day of school.” Miss Hardy said, and Emily continued to carry her fake smile across her face and replied.
“Yes, of course.” As she was starting to leave. She gave me one last dirty look, and whispered to my ear, “This isn’t over.” And then she casually walked off as if nothing happened.
When Emily was finally gone I felt so relieved, “Are you okay Sophia?” Miss Hardy asked. But I didn’t reply to her. I just wrapped my arms around her waist, and buried my face in her tummy. Even though I was very grateful for Miss Hardy saving me. I still couldn’t with stain my tears from over flowing, “Easy their baby girl.” She said while gently pulling me off. I guess she didn’t want me blowing my nose on her shirt again. I did that a lot last year, “There’s no reason for you to get all worked up. She’s gone now. No one’s gonna to hurt you.”
“I’m sorry Miss Hardy.” I finally spoken. “I don’t mean to cry. It’s just that, it’s only been twenty minutes within the new school year, and I’m already getting into trouble.” Miss Hardy then got down on her knees to become eye level with me.
“You poor thing.” She said while carefully brushing my hair back. “I was just about to have some breakfast. How would you like to join me?” I really didn’t want to be any more trouble to Miss Hardy than I already was; but I was hungry, and I knew Emily was waiting for me at the cafeteria. So I pulled myself together, wiped my tears, and nodded in agreement to Miss Hardy’s offer. Then Miss Hardy took me by the hand, and escorted me into her classroom.
