(🎵 Please have your sound on for this chapter)
This is an original composition by Zikky with lyrics that I wrote (minus the chorus) nearly 2 years ago, which I thought fit the story oddly well. I've included it here as an extra, I hope you enjoy the music as much as I do. :)
For the best experience, start the music when you start reading the lyrics and follow along!
Early summer night
In a city with no lights
An angel fell
Fell from the sky
It had wings 16 feet wide
And a voice like chocolate rye
And it said
Clamber on for a ride
You climb on and
Wind whipping through your tee (gasp for breath)
Clouds rolling neath your feet
And you think wow
The world is alive
Have you ever tried to
Stitch up wings of glue
Climb up a cliff and hurtle off
To find in shock
You could fly
But flew too close to the sun
Our shattered dreams
on broken wings
I clutch them to
my beating heart
Can we once again
meet and never fall apart?
On shooting stars
in the sky
I made a wish
as they flew by
Can we once again
fly together side by side?
Take me back
take me back
Back to the plains of paradise
Where in a windy valley
Against your heartbeat
We (fly free)
Wait for me
I'll be back
With Pride of the West*
Muslin cloth
Together we’ll glide (higher higher higher)
than the Wright brothers
Our shattered dreams
on broken wings
I clutch them to
my beating heart
Can we once again
meet and never fall apart?
On shooting stars
in the sky
I made a wish
as they flew by
May we once again
fly together side by side
Sometimes in life there are the people you would die for
And wreck your plane in the middle of the Sahara for
Remember this, love, somewhere in the desert
There is a well and
a single rose**
I crashed and burned and
my wings are broken
I danced and turned and
my flames have woken
Even with only a single white feather I will get there
Just you wait for me
Our shattered dreams
on broken wings
I clutch them to
my beating heart
Let us once again
meet and never fall apart
On shooting stars
in the sky
I made a wish
as they flew by
Let us once again
fly together side by side
[instrumental 14s]
hey
I had a dream today that they
came for us
to say
hey
why are you afraid
come on out and play
what could go wrong
[instrumental 13s]
On a breezy golden summer night
In a silent city with no lights
I saw
an angel fall
It spread its wings, tip to tip
I stretched my dreams,
Filled the whole ocean with soul within
Said, "clamber on let's
fly towards the sun"
Our shattered dreams
on broken wings
I clutch them to
my beating heart
Let us once again
meet and never part
On shooting stars
in the sky
I made a wish
as they flew by
Let us once again
spread wings and take flight
Original composition: Zikky
Lyrics: Me (verse), Zikky (chorus)
* "Pride of the West" unbleached muslin was the fabric used by the Wright brothers on the 1901 and 1902 gliders
** This entire verse is a reference to The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, if you haven't read the book I highly recommend!
