The Red Riding Hood (short story)

Part 7

Part 7

Jun 14, 2018

Days passed and life went on. Lilac continued to deliver a basket of goods to her grandma every day, but this time, Reiji accompanies her so he can be sure that she's safe. Walking while holding hands with her 'mate', Lilac felt every safe and protected, knowing what and who Reiji really is.

Mr. Levi never showed up again, much to her surprise. It was good, in her case, since she never really liked the man. She still blames him for what happened to Reiji—whose wounds have miraculously disappeared. He just explained that it's the fast healing that werewolves have.

But oh well, she still doesn't like the man.

However, setting aside all of that, her mother's sickness went worse, and she did everything she could to restore her mother's health, but her efforts were all useless. After two months, her mother died.

Lilac felt depressed because well, she just turned eleven that time—and she expected her mother to celebrate it with her. Instead of celebrating, she buried her mother's body properly at the back of their house, with the help of Reiji.

*flashback*

"You're a friend of my daughter?" Rosette asked at Reiji, whom Lilac just introduced to her a while ago.

"Yes, ma'am."

"This may be so rushed, but allow me to say this. It's odd but, I feel like I could entrust you with her. If I die, take care of my daughter, okay? She's the only one I have left. Promise me,"

"I promise, Ms. Rosette. I'll protect her with all my life."

Rosette smiled, recognizing the attitude. " Do you love my daughter, young man?"

Reiji flushed. "Umm-ah- yes."

"Then cherish her, okay? I will haunt you if you don't take care of her properly."

Reiji's eyes widened. "I have your blessings?"

"Yes, you have my blessings. You're five years older than her and you know that. Wait until she's legal of age,"

Reiji nodded in understanding. "Yes ma'am. Thank you."

Rosette smiled at him, reminded of her husband when they were still young. Reiji's a good man, so she presumed that she can trust him. And besides, this young man in front of her emits the same aura and intimidating presence like his late husband.

"Who wants sandwiches?"

Lilac came in the room, holding a tray.

*flashback end*

Reiji comforted her at all times, and took care of her. Lilac was grateful that she met him.

Lilac lived in that cabin alone since her mother is already dead. Reiji actually objected, but she insisted to stay until she was eighteen. The idea is risky of letting her all alone, so Reiji moved in.

Lilac promised Reiji that she will agree to live with him and his family when she's of legal age. He just nodded and agreed, because he doesn't want to rush his mate anyways. But since he's going to live with her for the next seven years, the wait will be worth it.

And so life continued, with Reiji taking care of Lilac and providing her unconditional love. Throughout the years Lilac gained maturity and more understanding, so now she knew what 'mate' sincerely means. Knowing that her feelings for Reiji are genuine, she admitted her love towards him when she became sixteen.

Until the day came and they're going to leave the cabin, off to Reiji's home.

Lilac gasped as they arrived in the place.

"It's...a mansion?"

Reiji smirked and nodded. "It's the pack house, where the Alpha and his family mainly live."

Lilac, now educated about werewolves, just nodded in understanding.

"And we're going to live there?"

Reiji gave her another smirk. "Of course. I'm the next Alpha, baby."

Who says the fairytale was never real?

Lilac thought it was actually weird. The trap look like it can snap her bones into two, but oh well, the wolf's wounds look like as if it only made a gash. It's bleeding, but at least the wolf's bones didn't break.

"Mister Wolf, you're lucky your bones aren't affected. If it was, it would be too hard for me to carry you to a clinic--you're too heavy!" She innocently giggled at the said creature, which is now staring and observing her every move.

Lilac, feeling its stare, turned to look up at its golden eyes. To say it was attractive is an understatement, it was captivating. Too captivating for her.
