Emah
Before school had let out Nathinn texted me saying both him and Rina had to leave earlier because they had something to do with their pack. I have no idea how his pack works he explained it to me once but it so much information all at once I don't remember it. Thus, I have to walk home by myself. Alone. See this is the part of the movie where something crazy happens. I could get kidnapped by a psycho or vampires can jump me and suck my blood. Or if this was a weird romance those pretty boys could randomly run past me getting chased by girls, I would notice their struggle trying to hide from them and offer them to hide out at my house since it's only a few blocks away, I would be all calm about it but secretly I too, would be freaking out like the other girls. Hell, I could even get abducted by freaking aliens. Aliens, man. Aliens. But my life isn't any of those so my walk home was boring and uneventful. Actually not true, I saw a bird crash into a window on my way home. The bird was fine just a bit dizzy but it flew off. That was my spectacular event.
Looks like my parents aren't home yet which is fine. They've been staying at work late this whole week so that gives me some free time after school. I sat my backpack down on the ground and started to fish out my spare key. I could be smart about this and carry it on some lanyard or keep it in my pocket but I usually just toss the silly thing in my bag. Maybe I should clean this bag out, why do I even have so much crap? Aha. Found it. I unlocked the door and went inside my empty house, making sure to re-lock the front door as soon as I got inside. I made my way upstairs to my room. One thing about this school is the teachers hardly assign homework to the students. Usually, they assign big projects that you have to complete in groups. I guess not doing any homework would be most kid's dream, however, I just want something to do when I get home. I could study but I don't have any upcoming tests. I could clean out my bag maybe even search my room for something to put my key on. That doesn't sound very fun though. Maybe I should clean the dining room up to prepare for tomorrow or clean up the den. Or even better, I could take a nap. I deserve it right? Kicking off my shoes and getting comfy I decided to take a nap.
Bzzt Bzzt! The fuck is that? Bzzt Bzzt! Shit, it's my phone. I don't remember falling asleep or even dreaming. Bzzt Bzzt! Right, my phone. Without even checking who's calling (pretty sure it's Nathinn though) I answered it putting the caller on speaker.
"Finally! I thought you died or something." An all too familiar voice half-shouted at me.
"Hey, I was bonding with my bed. Thank you very much!" I said, defending myself. I could tell Nathinn was smiling on the other end.
"I sent you like, 100 texts, and called you like, 30 times."
"Only 30?" I sat up turning on my bedside lamp.
"Okay fine, 100 times. Anyways, have a nice nap? You know you are the only person I know who lives to sleep. That is literally all you do."
Now was my turn to smile.
"Uh. Do you not know me? My bed and I have an unbreakable bond." I was going downstairs to see if I could possibly prepare for tomorrow. I knew my parents weren't home yet because I couldn't hear any voices downstairs or any noises at all. Using my phone as a flashlight I headed towards my fridge to see what snacks I could prepare.
"Things are still on for tomorrow? Also sorry for not walking you home sort of had this unavoidable meeting with some other pack members."
"S'all good. Everything is still on far as I know. And you should be sorry! You missed a very eventful moment." The fridge didn't seem to hold much of anything I could whip up so I moved onto the pantry.
"Oh? What happened?" Nathinn genuinely sounded excited.
"Bird crashed into a window. Highlight stuff. So what happened to your meeting?" Honestly, nothing looked good in the pantry either, maybe I should get my mom to make something before she goes to work. She's pretty good with the whole snack thing. I was listening to Nathinn talk about his meeting while writing a note to my mom on a napkin. I hung the napkin from the fridge using a magnet when I heard something. What the hell? Am I hearing things? Nathinn was still talking at the speed of light but I was hardly paying attention now.
"Nathinn shush," I said making him stop halfway through a sentence.
"What why?"
"Just shush!" I hissed into the phone. Then I heard that noise again. Someone was walking on my roof and what it sounds like, they seem to be trying to follow me. What the fuck is happening? Am I just being straight-up paranoid? I had stopped moving around in my kitchen and the footsteps on the roof stopped right above me. Who is up there? What is up there?
"Nathinn hold on." I put the phone on mute. No way in hell am I hanging up on him now. Quietly I made my way to the front door double-checking it was locked. Once I made sure that the door was locked, I checked my back door to make sure that, that door was locked. Quietly I opened a drawer from my kitchen and took a knife out. So far there weren't any footsteps but that could mean anything. In one quick motion, I bolted upstairs and ran to my bedroom, all the way I could hear footsteps above me trying to match my speed. I turned off my light, went inside my closet door, and clutched the knife to me.
"Emah?" Shit, I forgot about Nathinn.
"Someone is walking on my roof," I said.
"Seriously? Who?"
"If I knew that Nathinn, I probably would have told you."
"Right. Uh, hold up." Nathinn must have put his hand over the speaker because I heard his muffled voice but I couldn't make out what he was saying.
"Alright, I sent some Omega's over along with Rina just to keep watch on your house for tonight. I would go myself but since my parents' aren't here I have to keep watch of the rest of the pack. Please tell me you hid or something."
"Well duh, I even have a weapon just in case. Do you think I should call the police?"
"Um. I'm not sure, do you feel like you have to?"
"Not really I could just be paranoid or something." It literally could be a branch. But I could have sworn I heard footsteps tracking me through the damn roof.
"Want me to stay on the phone with you?" Nathinn had almost whispered that.
"No. It's fine I should try to preserve my phone battery just in case."
"Right. Okay, you better be alive tomorrow Em. You can't be the one to ditch your science partner." Nathinn was trying to cheer me up but it wasn't working all too well.
"Right. Night." I hung up and curled into a ball. Seriously who is up there? At some point, I had managed to fall back asleep only to wake up again to howling. I'm sure it was Nathinn's pack members but why they were howling was beyond me. And to be honest I really don't want to find that reason out.
