Night could only ever last for so long before the sun peeked over the horizon, daunting him with the aspect of a new day. He shifted around under the blankets, trying his best to block the sun from making contact with his pale skin, all the while attempting to get a few more minutes of sleep in. After failing to fall back asleep, he pulled himself out of his bed, which had seen better days and looked into his mirror. His body had a wiry structure. He was tall but not towering, he looked average but tough. His most noticeable feature was his snow white hair which reflected the sun's rays, blinding him through the mirror. He used to get a lot of comments about it, but after a while no one seemed to care. His eyes were sky blue and matched his hair, he wasn’t very handsome and he had a normal face. He looked at himself head to toe then swung around to his chester draws in the opposite corner of his room. He pulled from it a uniform of the school Albest High. It used to be a prestigious school, but not since half the previous century of graduates haven't amounted to anything. Now the elite school is Lidell Private School. He pulled his blazer over his shoulder, grabbed a light breakfast then headed out.
It was the dead of winter and mother nature was not going to let him forget it. He strolled through the streets at a comfortable pace. The white snow threw itself around him, almost as though it were avoiding an obstacle.
The walk to his school was always long and arduous. People walk past him in groups, discussing matters of some importance to them, but it always appeared as though they were struggling to keep the conversation going for more than thirty seconds. The group often went silent. They smiled but they all knew that those were fake. A fake friendship. An unhappy life. A life hardly worth living. The boy liked to avoid people and he hated interacting with anyone. To him talking was like a chore, it sometimes had to be done but he disliked it immensely. It seemed like a lifetime before he arrived at the school gates. He made his way across the littered school yard trying his best not to standout or draw any attention. That was the way he liked to live, a quiet, peaceful life.
The bell rung and he entered his class. The class full of all the “popular” boys and girls, and all of them were nuisances. The girls gossip consisted of their sex lives and boyfriends. The guy’s conversations were basically the same or going on about the fight club at school that the teachers don’t yet know about. The boy sat at the back next to the window, unlike everyone else he wasn’t popular and didn’t seem to stand out despite his white hair. He liked to sit at his spot in the back corner as he could see the world outside and it often distracted him. At times he would be caught up watching the birds or people who were walking past. He never really had any interest in learning and often got in trouble for these daydreams he would have.
“Alright class settle down, today as you know we have a new student” The teacher revealed.
“She has just transferred in from Lidell Private Academy” He added. All of a sudden there was silence and this caught the boy’s attention he looked to the front and standing there was a girl. She had the body of a super-model, long blond hair that went down to her hips, she had a shy sort of pose and had blues eyes that he had never seen before. Her skin was fair and her hands were small, she wasn’t very tall she was definitely under 5 foot 3 and she held herself high. She caught his attention but it only lasted for less than a minute before he went back to staring out of his window.
“Emily you can sit at the back there next to Derek” The teacher said as he pointed to the spare spot in between the boy and Derek. The boy looked over to Derek whose face lit up with joy like he had never seen before. Emily looked at Derek then at the boy. She let a little smile escape from her which almost knocked Derek out. She sat down in the seat and greeted all those that had come up to her. The boy noticed someone tapping his shoulder and turned to see who it was. Right in his face was hers she was leaning over to him. She jolted back in surprise then asked him a simple question.
“What is your name?”
“Elijah” He responded hardly giving it any emotion or thought. She smiled then sat down again. The room was filled with murmurs and talk alike.
“Whoa, when did that boy join our class?” some students questioned.
“Who is he again? I think I might have seen him...” The teacher hushed them all down before starting off the lesson.
Like usual Elijah would look out the window into the distance. It was calming and helped his imagination run free hence the day dreams and multiple detentions. Today threw him off. He hated change it was unnecessary and more often than not got in the way of his daily life. The new student was next to him in the seat he left vacant to avoid any unnecessary conversations. He gave the ex-vacant spot a quick glance not knowing why or what he was expecting.
She was sitting listening to the teacher with the up most respect and attention. He didn't like people but she didn't seem to be as bad. He was stuck staring at her for a little while until she turned to him. He didn't know why she did but it caught him off guard. He jerked his head to the window half hoping she didn't see and half knowing that she did. She made him feel uneasy but she was the only one to start a conversation with him since he began high school.
'No she is nothing more than a nuisance' he chanted in his head trying his best to forget her. All of a sudden there was a thud. Elijah opened his eyes to discover that he had planted his head on his desk with people looking back at him out of surprise.
"Elijah are you okay?" Emily asked.
"Y-yeah, I am fine!" He shot back.
With that he took to the paradise that was the window and what lay on the other side.
