Juan’s way of thinking was rather crude and straightforward, after all in the underground world surviving was the priority, no one has ever paid any attention to someone's status , as the people there were just as simple, with no overly complicated rules created just to appease someone's pride.
Even though Juan tried his best to adapt to the specifics of the world above, but unfortunately the amount of ridiculous unspoken rules and etiquette, which he saw as a mere act of hypocrisy , were far too puzzling and useless to him.
So he did the things in a way he considered right, using the empty line was the most natural and logical thing in his mind. Unfortunately no one else in this place shared his thoughts and beliefs, so, in a mere second he became the attention of the whole crowd present in the hall.
A countless number of eyes were centered on him, some filled with ridicule, others with pity, rage, contempt, amusement and a myriad of other emotions. Juan however proceeded to ignore the atmosphere altogether and leisurely went on towards the lady responsible for registration. He did not miss the contempt and rage in her eyes, but was too lazy to deal with all that nonsense at the moment.
“This line is for silver ranked students.” She told him coldly and harrumphed, making her ample chest move up and down, creating quite a sight for sore eyes, Juan did not restrain his admiration, he loved beautiful things, more so beautiful women, pity this one's character was too rotten to his liking, he truly missed the women from the underground. They were honest and non-scheming type, the women of this world however were like foxes and snakes, lurking in the dark waiting for a chance to devour their prey using all accessible means possible, demonesses hiding their wicked nature behind alluring looks.
“I don't see the rule that states that these lines are for silver and gold origin students respectively.” He confronted her rather emotionlessly, his lack of reaction, as well as the fact that such a rule did indeed not exist made her feel irritated. She felt as if she swallowed a bug.
“This is an unspoken rule that everyone follows without exceptions, or do you think that you, a mere bronze piece of trash, are worthy of me servicing you?”
“So you are not going to do your job?” replied Juan nonchalantly.
“No, not for you!” she uttered those the words with disgust. This was the first time that something like this had happened in the history of the school. Before today what Juan had done was just unheard of.
Juan simply nodded his head and went for the so called “gold” line while shaking his head. The lady thought that Juan would start quarreling with her, demanding to take care of his registration and automatically tossed him into the category of damned perverts. So you can imagine her expression when he simply shrugged and moved to the gold line, completely ignoring her existence, she was simply livid, but was not able to vent her frustration at all.
The youth in the glasses looked at him with amusement, he knew that there was indeed no rule concerning the lines, but it was something that golden and silver origin students established on their own, he felt that a good show was awaiting him, after all he himself was a golden boy and knew better than anyone else how prideful the talented students were, especially considering that most of them were nobility. Not to mention how unreasonable they could be if a little bronze origin shrimp dared to insult them in any way.
Juan however was rather upset, it was just a line dammit, why in the hell were they making so much of a fuss about it, it was not like he made silver and gold origin students queue up behind him. Fortunately the glassed youth responsible for gold line was not as stubborn and unreasonable as the girl in the silver line, he would have thought that he was a pleasant and reasonable person if not for that smug look on his face.
The youth handed him the documents that he had to fill in to proceed through the registration. It was a questionnaire about his age, name, physical data, origin, enigma origin, rank, etc. etc.
Then there was the information about each respective class.
The elite class was called Violet.
Then came Venera.
And the most pathetic one was Mercury.
The difficulty level of each class differed greatly, the standings of the students in those classes differed just as much. Violet was a class filled with mostly silver origin students and some gold origin ones. Venera was filled with mostly silver with one or two exceptional bronze origin students here and there. The Mercury class was filled with the worst silver origin students and practically all of the bronze origin students.
This system was designed to insight a feeling of competition among the students. One's enigma origin dictated ones talent but talent does not equate to strength. And Valdios Vector Academy was a military school, to train soldiers, so strength was paramount. There was no point in having a talented but useless soldier. Especially in an elite force like Vector's Edge.
Any student can challenge students in the classes above so long as they rank in the top ten of their own class. Thus if a silver origin student was challenged by a bronze origin student, defeat would mean that the two would swap places. This encouraged the students to train. The talented ones were motivated to not get complacent, while the less talented ones were motivated due to the chance of getting promoted to a higher class.
The higher ranked the class, the higher your rank in the school, the better your teachers are, the more resources you receive, and most important, it looks good on your résumé after graduation, resulting in a better starting rank.
Venera was the most perfect class for Juan, as he knew that it was the class his princess was entering. Not to mention he was well aware that no bronze origin student could match him in strength. So he planned to register just there, alas fate decided otherwise, just when he was about to handle his application over, a silver origin student walked into the hall, he surveyed the crowd and saw a punky unranked bronze standing in the dignified gold ranker’s line, a line even he was not able to stand in! His eyebrows twitched and he forcefully held himself down, afterall fighting was not looked on favourably, nor would it win him any respect considering that his opponent was mere a bronze origin, in addition using their enigma abilities was strictly prohibited.
However, when he saw the love of his life, the revered senior Jennifer Campbell, one of the most beautiful ladies on campus was staring at that annoying fly with bitter resentment, her eyes watered from anger he lost his cool. This was all that was needed to snap his patience and self control, he did not even see the need to clarify the situation before acting, he just stormed towards Juan shamelessly, and threw a fist into the back of his head.
In the enigma age, hierarchy was very strict, the strong were always right and the weak wrong. It was common for a a more talented student to suppress or injure a bronze origin student, especially one who broke the social etiquette. Little did he know that he was playing with fire.
Juan dodged the attack instinctively, his body had been trained in the most cruel ways to respond in a manner so fast that even his mind was not able to catch up with his movement. His body turned sideways and he kicked the offender without restraint. The arrogant fella was blasted back and flew all the way to the entrance while coughing up blood from the shockingly strong impact. The sheer force behind Juan’s kick was not something that could be underestimated.
After falling disgracefully, and losing all of his face to the mere bronze origin shrimp, Antonio lost all his reason, his mind entering berserk state as he unceremoniously unleashed his enigma ability.
Enigma energy was divided into four types. And it is after these energies that the major divisions were named.
Alpha energy is energy that operates within the human body. It can also be used to reinforce weapons and increase physical abilities.
Beta energy is energy that operates within the brain. Beta energy users are used mainly for support such as long distance communication and scouting.
Gamma energy is energy that operates outside the human body. Its generally known as the most powerful form of enigma energy and is extremely versatile.
Sigma energy is unique among the energies. Due to the fact that it is a combination of two or more types of energies. A prerequisite for entering Vector's Edge is being able to use Sigma energy.
Every human born in this day and age has a unique enigma ability they are born with. This ability is tested the moment one enters the academy and one is placed in the corresponding major division to receive the appropriate lessons.
Of course it is possible for a person born with a Beta ability to use Alpha energy, but due to compatibility issues this would be very difficult. Thus people take the easier path and train in what best suits their body.
A pressure unique to the sigma category burst out. This was a sigma energy that consisted of mostly gamma enigma and some alpha enigma. Juan's senses were her sensitive to the different types of energies the human body could produce.
The temperature in the room rose drastically. All the freshmen looked at this monster horrified, their faces pale in fright, their bodies shaking and sweating. Eyes darting from one corner to another searching for the ways to escape, pity they were too mortified to even move a finger, some forgot how to breathe until their faces were red from lack of oxygen, the situation was escalating to the boiling point.
Only those who were freshmen late to register were present, resulting in the room being filled with rookie bronze origin students who could not handle the superior enigma Antonio was leaking out.
Meanwhile Johan, who was in the middle of the crowd face-palmed himself, he knew it, he just knew, this Juan was nothing but a trouble, a huge trouble. He wanted to find whoever assigned Juan as his partner and kill that bastard who had brought more misery in his life.
Juan himself however was calm, too calm, his eyes were icy blue, a vague trace of ice flames dancing in his irises, he surpassed them forcibly, a wicked smile appeared on his face as he took a defensive stance.
“For Pete's sake, I'm innocent, these upper worlders are tricking me non-stop, first that freak Principal, now this fella, who in the hell asked him to sneak attack me with no reason!!”
Antonio roared and the fiery red flames burst out from his body, he closed the distance between himself and Juan in mere seconds, his body gathered momentum and he unleashed his fire covered fist at Juan’s vitals, he was sure that the moment he unleashed his flames of Helios, this punny bronze trash will not be able to defend himself, no living being below or on his level has ever escaped from his righteous flame before.
The flames of Helios was a famous enigma ability belonging to the Alonso clan. A noble clan that specialised in close ranged combat. They were fearsome, and each of their psions had an arrogance and temper to match their reputation. Sometimes enigma abilities came with side effects towards one's personality, and the Flames of Helios precisely fell under such a category. Those who had this ability had an extremely short temper and often acted on their anger without thinking about the consequences.
