I stopped behind the fox, growling at it, and the mother bear roared again as she saw me. The fox slowly put down my pup, in front of the bear, then walked sideways until it was able to flee. My pup was now dangerously close to the bear, much too close for my comfort as she gave yelps of pain and panic. My heart hurt as I listened, every part of me telling to go to her, but caution for her safety kept me moving slowly.
Slowly as to not startle the mother, and made my way to Angela. The bear let herself fall on all four paws once more as she looked down at my small pup. I growled menacingly to the bear, knowing that if it did anything to her, I would kill it, regardless of her cubs. She took a big sniff of Angela, smelling me on her, and making her give a small peep of protest again as instinct told her to be quiet.
I growled again as I came closer, making sure to put power in my voice so it would understand to back away from what was mine. Slowly the bear backed away, letting me stand over my pup, and she called to her little ones. One of the Cubs came over to us, curiosity surrounding it as it came to see the small frame of Angela, I gave it a low warning growl, only to have the cub's mother growl for her cubs to come again. They scurried to follow their mother and I waited until they were out of sight before I picked Angela up by the scruff of her neck.
When I got back, we were going to change the location of the dens, no matter how long it took. They were not hidden well enough if a fox could find them! But as I looked down to my small pup, her eyes barely open, I sighed. I would have to wait yet. They were not old enough to move.
When I made it back to the dens, I saw that Danny was lying down in front of the entrance of my den with the body of two dead foxes in front of him. So it seems that while I gave chase, the foxes tried to get the better of Danny. He is a strong Wolf, that could stand up to me while I was pregnant, he would not be fooled by foxes.
He lifted his head when he saw me, instantly spinning up on his feet and coming to me. I gave a low growl when he checked to see if Angela was safe, warning him not to touch her. When he was done assuring himself my baby was alive, I made my way to my den. I hated how it now reeked of Fox, but I checked up on my boys, and made sure they were safe.
Happy that they were alive, I put their sister next to them and curled around them protectively. The boys whimpered as I awoke them, but soon the three of them were searching my fur once again for warmth and food. The three of them now we're able to move around much easier, their eyes almost fully open, and their strength growing each day. They would be able to explore the den soon, and that is when Danny and I would take them to a new one.
