All around darkness shrouded the area. No matter what direction Morgan looked, it was nothing but dark, dark, darkness. She called out, only to be met with an eerie silence. Not wanting to stay in the aforementioned darkness, Morgan started walking, hoping she wouldn't fall off a cliff or anything like that.
She hadn't gone far when a couple green lights came into view up ahead. Wanting to find another person or at least a lamp, Morgan headed straight for them. She soon discovered that the lights were torches lit with green fire and surrounding a large circus tent.
"Anyone here?" said Morgan. Once more she there was nothing but silence. However, someone had to have lit the torches.
A path made up of white petals lead to what appeared to be the entrance. Morgan followed it and peeked inside the tent. Her eyes widened with horror.
The dragon stood before her growling, smoke spilling from its nostrils. It opened its mouth and spewed out a stream of green fire.
Morgan bolted upright, dripping in cold sweat. She looked around, relieved to be in her room. She must have fallen asleep reading again. Morgan glanced down at the book in her hand. The cover sported a king holding up a great and mighty sword triumphantly.
"My fault for reading trash," she said before tossing it to the side. She nearly fell out of her bed again when someone knocked on her bedroom door.
"Are you alright in there?" her mother Ingrid asked. Morgan sighed and felt around for her phone.
"Yes mom," she answered.
"Just checking," said Ingrid. "Hey, I'm going to the store. Why don't you come with?"
"Not really feeling up to it."
"You sure? You can grab anything you want."
She finally found her phone and casually scrolled through it. No texts. No messages.
"Yeah I'm sure," said Morgan.
"Morgan, you've been in there all day. Come on," her mother tried again. Morgan groaned and got up.
"Fine."
* * *
"Chicken or fish?" asked Ingrid. Morgan shrugged as she pushed the cart along.
"Don't really care mom," she said.
"Well, what do you feel like eating?"
"I don't know."
"Can you at least give me something to work with?"
"I said I didn't want to come," said Morgan.
"I know. You never want to do anything. But sooner or later, you're gonna have to stop hiding."
"Because nothing could possibly go wrong if I did that."
Ingrid and turned to move onto the next aisle. Suddenly something hit her back. She turned around, seeing a box of cereal on the floor. Morgan's eyes were wide as she gripped the cart.
"I-it was an... I didn't mean too.." she sputtered. Ingrid held up her hands trying to calm down Morgan.
"It's okay. Everything is okay," said Ingrid gently. "How about you go wait for me in the car?"
Morgan nodded and rushed out of the store. She ran out into the parking lot, stopping to catch her breath.
"Hello there!" said voice. A woman sat in a booth at the end of the parking lot. The booth was painted with swirls of dark blues and purples and dotted with stars. On the very top hung a sign that read. 'Delphina of the Stars! Come get your fortunes told!' The woman, who Morgan assumed to be Delphina, had dark features and dressed in a silky white dress sprinkled with five-pointed stars.
"Would you like a reading?" asked Delphina.
"I'm fine, thank you," said Morgan as she made her way to the car.
"Are sure? First reading is on the house. And you get free tickets to the circus!"
Morgan paused and looked back at her. "The circus?"
"In all its splendor!" said Delphina.
It couldn't hurt to at least humor her. With a shrug, Morgan walked up to the booth.
"Your hand please," said Delphina
Morgan held out her hand to which Delphina took and traced a finger over its lines.
"Is there anything you'd like to know? Maybe something that might happen in the future? Or perhaps something that happened in the past?" said Delphina.
"The past?" questioned Morgan.
"Well not this one. The other one. In another life. You were quite strong."
Morgan tried her hardest to not let her skepticism show on her face. "I bet I had a big beefy boyfriend too."
"Hardly!" Delphina laughed.
This time Morgan did let her emotions show on her face.
"What else do you see?" she asked.
"You'll soon make a new friend," said Delphina.
"And then I'll win the lottery?"
Delphina suddenly got a faraway look in her eye and tightened her grip on Morgan's hand.
"You're going to need each other," said Delphina.
"Okay..."
Morgan took a step back, but Delphina wouldn't let go. She cupped her hand in both of hers and looked her dead in the eye.
"You need to be careful. You need to look out for yourself and your friends. Something is out there, searching, waiting," Delphina continued. "And you need to stop denying truths if you wish to get through this."
Finally, Morgan was able to yank her hand free. Delphina took a deep breath and sat back in her chair.
"I'm sorry. I don't normally get visions that strong," said Delphina.
"Right... I'm going to find my mom now," said Morgan, slowly backing away.
"Oh wait!"
Delphina reached inside a box and pulled out two tickets.
"Don't forget these!" she said.
Morgan hesitantly took them and stuffed the tickets in her pocket.
"Thanks," she said.
"You're welcome! I highly recommend the magic show. I think you'll really like it," said Delphina with a certain edge to her voice.
"I'll be sure to see it."
Morgan turned and headed for the car once more.
"Hope to see you there, Morgan Fey," said Delphina. Morgan paused for a moment and then left.
