It was like everyone was talking about Mackenzie once again. She was with the new kid. Chatter broke out among the classroom as Mr Leman set the class a task.
Grace had barely spoken to Mackenzie all day and now she was being forced to do so.
Mackenzie looked down at the worksheet as she read out the first part of the task.
"I'm not working with you." Grace said. "I'll work on my own."
Mackenzie chewed the top of her pen in frustration as she looked over at Isaac who seemed equally stressed.
"It's okay, you work with Mackenzie, I'll work alone." Isaac offered.
Mackenzie turned her back to Isaac to show Grace that Isaac wasn't working with them. Suddenly, she became her usual bubbly self, just like nothing was wrong, she began talking about the latest gossip with Mackenzie, then she noticed Mackenzie's expression.
"What's wrong?" She suspiciously asked.
Mackenzie shook her head and faked a smile.
"Let's just do our work." Mackenzie said, reading the words on her page.
"No, tell me what's wrong." Grace pushed.
Mackenzie bit her lip. She just wanted to scream the truth at Grace but she was afraid of what Thomas would do to her if she did.
"Can't you just give Isaac a chance?" Mackenzie asked after a moment of silence.
Graces face hardened as jealousy grew within her.
"How do you not see that he's taking you away from me?! First he's taken Freddies place, now he's taking you away from me." Grace said in a hushed voice.
"If you just got to know him then you might change your mind. He's really nice!" Mackenzie explained, looking over her shoulder to check if Isaac was listening.
"You wanna know who was also nice? Freddie. And just like everyone else, you seem to have forgotten about him already. He's only been dead for two weeks and you're already over it! I won't let Isaac replace Freddie!" Grace yelled, causing the whole class to turn around and stare at both her and Mackenzie.
Mackenzie could feel her cheeks burning from embarrassment. "What are you all looking at?!" Grace yelled at her classmates. She picked up her books and stormed out of class, leaving her classmates in shock.
Mackenzie sunk in her seat, unsure of what to do. Should she go and talk to Grace? Or just give her space? Before she could make a decision, her mouth had already made a choice.
"I should go check on her." Mackenzie said to Mr Leman.
He nodded his head in agreement.
The students watched Mackenzie as she got up from her seat leaving the classroom. She made her way to the girls bathroom.
Guilt consumed her mind for keeping the secret the secret that was forbidden to spill from Mackenzie's lips. Grace deserved to know how Freddie actually died.
After a moment, Mackenzie talked herself into telling Grace the truth. She was going to tell her that Freddie was killed by a vampire. And that vampire was Thomas.
Thomas would never find out if she told Grace what really happened. Although, fear still lingered within her gut, she knew that Grace would keep the secret. Or would she? What if telling Grace what really happened, made everything worse? What if Grace tells somebody? What if the town thought that they both had gone crazy?! I mean, who would believe that vampires exist?!
She entered the bathroom, instantly hearing the sobs of Grace coming from one of the cubical's.
"Grace?" Mackenzie asked.
Grace let's out a sigh behind the door she was hidden behind as she refused to leave the cubical to face Mackenzie.
"I don't want to talk Mackenzie." Grace huffed.
"We need to." Mackenzie began, taking a deep breath before she continued. "There's something i need to tell you." Mackenzie admitted, felling her heart skip a beat from fear.
"Is there now?" a males voice said from the main entrance of the girls bathroom.
Grace immediately came out of the cubical, to see who was coming into the bathroom.
The clicking of footsteps rounded the corner and Thomas appeared, making Mackenzie's throat tightened in fear.
"Thomas?" Grace asked, sounding almost relieved to see him here.
He looked at Grace and rolled his eyes, then turned to Mackenzie.
"If I do recall correctly, I did make you a little promise." He smirked.
A look of distrust covered Graces face. Was Mackenzie keeping secrets from her?!
"What are you talking about?" Grace asked. No fear was felt by Grace. She didn't fear Thomas because she didn't know the truth.
Thomas looked Grace up and down, running his tongue over his bottom lip. A twinkle of mischief glistened in his eye as he approached Grace, placing his hand on her cheek.
"I want you to remember everything. Remember what I did, remember how I told you to feel about Isaac. Remember it all." He said, pulling his hand from Graces cheek again.
Every emotion possible came flooding in. Grace was seeing the memory of Freddie being killed, she remembered being told to hate Isaac. Guilt, sadness and anger radiated from her skin. She was so nasty to Isaac, all because she was told to do so by some freak!
"You're a vampire?" Grace asked, stepping away from Thomas and backing into the toilet door.
Thomas just smiled at Grace, then turned his attention to Mackenzie, walking towards her. Each footstep that hit the cold bathroom floor, sent a shiver up Mackenzie's spine.
"Yes I am a vampire." He said to Grace, not looking at her. "I'm the guy who killed your boyfriend and I'm also the guy thats about to kill your bestfriend." He smirked, as the fangs grew from his upper jaw.
A shaky breath escaped Mackenzie's lips as Thomas' eyes changed to the deep red that Freddie's were.
She looked over at Grace who was pressed against the bathroom door, unsure of how to stop this man from killing her bestfriend.
Time had slowed down as Thomas' mouth inched so close to Mackenzie's neck that she could feel his warm breath, heating her olive skin.
"You're not going to touch her!" A voice yelled from behind Thomas.
Mackenzie tore her eyes away from Thomas as he spun on his heel to see who was speaking to him. It was Isaac.
"What a lovely surprise!" Thomas exclaimed. "I suppose you're here to save your lady friend." Thomas mockingly said, looking back at Mackenzie.
Suddenly, Thomas was standing behind her, his arm firmly gripped around her torso so that she couldn't move and he tilted her head to the side, revealing her neck for him to bite.
Isaac held his breath. Thomas was a ticking time bomb. One wrong move and he wouldn't hesitate to kill Mackenzie.
"What's wrong? Are you afraid to show her what you truly are?" Thomas teased.
Isaac took a step closer to the pair.
"Don't Isaac! He'll hurt you!" Mackenzie yelled, as she struggled to get out of Thomas' grip.
A low growl left Isaac's lips. He came to Addington to start a new life. A life where nobody knew what he was. Addington was suppose to be the place where he could forget about his past and live an almost human life. Thomas made sure that this life was impossible. For almost 150 years, Thomas has kept a promise. A promise to never let Isaac love. And this time wasn't any different. Thomas was getting an eternity of revenge. He was making Isaac pay for what he did.
"You have 10 seconds. 9, 8-" Thomas said.
As Thomas counted from 10 to 0, Isaac grew desperate. He had no choice but to turn.
Thomas watched in awe, as Isaac began to turn in front of Mackenzie. Fangs grew from his jaw as his eyes turned a much brighter shade of red than what Thomas or Freddies eyes were.
This moment was the one thing Isaac dreaded the most since meeting Mackenzie. He hoped he would never have to do this, or at least not so soon. Thomas let go of Mackenzie as she just starred at Isaac.
"No." Mackenzie mumbled in disbelief.
Isaac was one of them. A killer.
"Now that's the Isaac I like to see." Thomas said, taking a few long and slow strides towards Isaac while clapping his hands.
"She was going to find out sometime." Thomas remarked, placing his hand of Isaacs shoulder.
He shoved Thomas hand from his shoulder as he gritted his teeth, "don't touch me."
"I would deceive her to forget but she's wearing that stupid necklace." Thomas said, turning around to face Mackenzie again. "I could just kill her." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Leave her alone." Isaac growled.
"Or what?"
Isaac said nothing. He had nothing else to say. It was impossible to threaten Thomas. He had nothing to lose and if you threatened to kill him, he would gladly let you.
Thomas closed his eyes and sniffed the air. He tilted his head back and smiled, showing off his fangs.
"I'm feeling a little hungry." Thomas bluntly said, his eyes still closed.
He suddenly sprung his eyes open, looking at Mackenzie.
The look on Thomas' face was sinister. Mackenzie looked behind her. She had no where to run or hide. Her hands shook at her sides as she took a few steps back from Thomas. Adrenaline pumped through her blood as she took in deeper breaths. She could feel her pulse beating against her skin.
Suddenly, Thomas pounced at Mackenzie, making her scream. As his hands held the sides of Mackenzie's face, Isaac grabbed Thomas and threw him against the sinks, causing two of them to smash into pieces.
Mackenzie jumped back from the mess as Thomas lay on the ground, surrounded by parts of the broken sinks. He let out a low menacing laugh and rolled onto his back.
"You see that?" He laughed "That's a monster." He said, nodding his head towards Isaac as he slowly stood up, brushing himself down.
"The only monster in this room is you." Mackenzie bravely said.
"Ouch. You know, i actually liked you right up until you said that. Grace, your my new favourite" Thomas smirked, wiping the blood off his cheek.
Before Mackenzie's eyes, the wound healed as if there was never a cut there in the first place.
"Well, i better get going. I'm sure you two will have plenty to talk about." He said, walking towards Isaac and patting him on the chest. "I'll see you later pal." He said, casually leaving the bathroom whistling.
A piece of the sink sat at Mackenzie does foot and she kicked it away. She looked up at Grace. How was she handling all of this?
"I think ill leave you two to talk. You can explain everything to me later." Grace said, giving Mackenzie a sympathetic smile.
Grace left the bathroom, leaving Mackenzie and Isaac alone. Mackenzie didn't know how she felt. Isaac saved her life! But how could she remain friends with somebody that could kill her in an instant? Even though she had just met him, she felt a strange connection to him, just like he did. They both felt so comfortable around one another. But how could she live, knowing that her friend kills people?
"Thanks for saving me." Mackenzie mumbled, unable to look at Isaac.
"No problem" Isaac said, rubbing the back of his head.
He felt as uncomfortable as Mackenzie did.
"So does Thomas really work for your dad?" Mackenzie asked, unsure of whether she could believe anything Isaac has told her the past few days.
"No." Isaac sighed, looking down at his feet.
"Then how do you know him?"
"I turned him." Isaac admitted.
He say the shock on Mackenzie's face and immediately which he could tract his statement. "But I would never hurt you, I promise you." Isaac said, coming towards Mackenzie.
"Stay where you are." She said, putting her hand out to indicate Isaac to stop.
He knew that this was how she would react. He didn't expect her to react in any other way.
"Look, I know we barely know each other but I don't think I can get any closer to someone..." Mackenzie paused, unsure of how to phrase the last part of her sentence.
"You can't get close to someone like me." Isaac said, looking down at his feet. "I understand."
"I'm sorry" Mackenzie quietly said, the words getting stuck in her throat.
She felt horrible, but she thought it was better to end the friendship now, rather than waiting for him to almost kill her or Grace.
"It's okay. I'll see you around." He said.
Mackenzie watched as Isaac left the bathroom with his head hung low. Every emotion she had felt in the past two weeks began overwhelming her and she burst into tears.
She sat on the ground and hid her head in her hands as she just let everything she was feeling out. She wished that she could talk to her dad about everything, but she had to hide him from this. Dragging him into the world of vampires was the last thing she wanted to do.

At lunch, Mackenzie explained everything to Grace and she seemed to handle everything well. In a way, it was almost like closure for her. It was nice to be able to sit down and have a normal conversation with Grace without her saying something nasty about Isaac.
Mackenzie looked over at the far end of the canteen to see Isaac shoving a chip in his mouth while he sat alone. He held a book in his hand as he flicked the page every so often.
"I feel really bad. I mean, he has no friends." Mackenzie said, picking at her food.
"Sometimes you have to look out for yourself Kenzie. The choice you made meant that you weren't going to be in harms way, aka Thomas and it also meant that you won't have to deal with any boy trouble when it comes to you two dating." Grace explained, while playing with her food.
"Dating?" Mackenzie laughed
"Oh sure, I mean it's clear he finds you attractive too. Look he's even starring at you right now." Grace said.
Mackenzie looked across the canteen at Isaac once again, to see him looking over at her. He quickly looked away, making Mackenzie's cheeks blush.
" I know it's hard, but you just need to forget about him and what he is." Grace said.
It was funny how just the other day Mackenzie was the one trying to comfort Grace, now the tables have turned.
The past few weeks had probably been the most hectic weeks of Mackenzie's life. So much had happened. She lost a friend. Found out vampires existed, then discovered that the boy she was attracted to was also a vampire. Was she ever going to get a break from the madness?

A sigh left Mackenzie's lips as sat in her living room, staring at the television. She was exhausted. She looked at the clock, it was 4pm.
"Crap." She muttered to herself
Last nights plans with Evie to meet up for Coffee completely left her mind after everything that happened with Thomas occurred. She was sure that Evie would understand. The only problem was that she couldn't tell Evie the truth.
