I’m back. I’m going to start off by apologizing in advance. I’m in a bit of a shock right now. I could have made a million speculations about this situation. At first, I thought the Squealer was some sort of missing link. I thought it was one of those creatures like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. Then, I thought that maybe this was the work of aliens. I never would’ve thought that it was something else. Today, I talked to the deacon, and he told me exactly what it was. He explained everything to me. He explained the Squealer, the other monsters, and the entire situation.
I’m not going to spare you the pain of listening to me tell the story. Instead, I have something even better. When I went to talk to Deacon Wester, I took a hidden mic and tape recorder with me. I have the entire conversation on tape, so listen well.
Mason: Deacon, thanks for having me over.
Deacon: Of course, Mason. Please, have a seat.
Mason: So...care to explain to me what’s happening?
Deacon: It’s all my fault. It’s all our fault. We should’ve abandoned this when we had the chance.
Mason: What are you talking about, Wester? Explain yourself.
Deacon: You see, Mason, these people have gotten used to it. They’ve grown accustomed to its habits. If you just stay out of its way, you should be fine for the most part. You’ve angered it. Now it wants blood.
Mason: Deacon, I don’t have time for this. People are dying out there! Tell me what you know! NOW!!!!
Deacon: You see, Mason, this town did not always used to be here. Several years ago, this area was used for something else.
Mason: What was it used for?
Deacon: This area used to be a nuclear experimentation zone. I know that because I was one of the men who worked for the operation.
Mason: What the hell? Nuclear experimentation zone? What the hell were you people doing out here?
Deacon: We called it that just in case we had to use nuclear weaponry. We worked for the government. Essentially, they created this machine. They were trying to find a way to travel to new worlds for human civilization. They had this machine that was able to split the rifts...the rifts between light. They were trying to split into the fabric of space and time, and they created some kind of portal that would do the job.
Mason: Wait...Are you saying they were trying to open a portal to another dimension?
Deacon: Yes, Mason. We didn’t think it was going to work, but it did. However, we didn’t expect what was on the other side. We opened a hole to a dimension that was completely opposite to hours. The creatures in that hole didn’t have a means of sentience, intelligence, or morals. We managed to capture some of them before closing the hole. We wanted to test these new species. We were going to immediately destroy them all after we were done. Most of these creatures had incredible abilities, but there was one in particular that was almost unbelievable. This specimen had the ability to create new life from dead or living cells. It was also able to break the laws of human physics. This creature could literally do whatever it wanted, and we couldn’t stop it.
Mason: What was it?
Deacon: This creature had no physical form. It was nothing more than a sentient cloud of dark matter. We soon learned it was up to no good. Soldiers and scientists started reporting having organs and pieces of flesh missing. We discovered the specimen was consuming the things it would take. It was using that matter to gain a physical form. It eventually had enough matter to walk and attack. It broke out of containment, and we never saw it again. We quickly contained the premise and cleared the area with an air strike. We thought we’d killed it, but we were wrong.
Mason: You guys have a monster from another dimension running around here.
Deacon: It’s a science experime-
Mason: It’s not a goddamn science experiment! It’s a monster that you people couldn’t control. Now, it’s out there taking people and using them for its creations. That damn thing is out there right now probably making an army to storm this town and wipe us out. How do we kill these things?
Deacon: They’re all controlled by it. They won’t die unless the leader dies.
Mason: So how do we kill the Squealer then?
Deacon: You can’t. Believe me, I’ve tried. It has gathered enough at this point to make its body indestructible. Didn’t you hear me? It started off as some sort of dark matter. If you destroy its physical body, it will probably just move on and make another. I’m sorry, but that’s all I have for you. What you’re dealing with is essentially a puppet master.
There you have it. Now, I know. This thing is an experiment. Actually, it’s something that’s not even of this world. I’m getting scared. We’re running out of food, and help still hasn’t come. My mind is absolutely discombobulated. I don’t know what to think. I suppose this is what happens when you play the rules of God. That’s exactly what they did, and now we’re facing the consequences. Deacon seems to know how this thing works. He told me that the Squealer will probably never storm the town. He says it finds joy in terrorizing people. The Squealer has the ability to harm you physically or mentally. It gets in your head and messes with you until you can’t take it. I remember I asked Wester one more question.
“Why did it pick this town?”
He said, “For two reasons, because this is where it started and it knows we can’t escape.”
Eventually, the Squealer will run out of people in this town. That means it’s eventually going to move on to another area, and begin to terrorize a new set of people who never saw it coming.
