She dashed off.

She hadn’t taken two steps before he was ahead of her. He ran carefully, gracefully, each step falling precisely. No wildly splayed arms and too wide steps for him. Clearly, she was dealing with an experienced runner.

He smirked cheekily at her as she reached the swing-set. She ignored him and jumped onto one of the swings. “Push me!” she demanded.

He shook his head, taking the other swing. She stuck her tongue out at him and started swinging. Soon she had a pretty good rhythm going. Once she got as high as she could she called “Imagine me floating!” and jumped. For once, he did as she asked, and she floated gently to the ground, laughing with glee the whole way.

She spun back around and got back on the swing. Once she had floated down twice more, she finally turned to him. He was sitting on the swing, not moving, just watching her. His face was blank, though his eyes were amused.

“What?” She asked, still giggling. “Have you never jumped from a swing before?”

He shook his head. “I did. My sister used to all the time when we were kids.” The words seemed to leave his mouth without thought. He frowned. “I have a sister.” He murmured.

She found that intriguing. “You don’t remember?” She was surprised. She had no way of knowing if it was normal, seeing as she hadn’t spoken to any other dreamers before. However, it seemed remembering who you were would be trivial, especially when you were within your own dreamscape. After all, it all took place in your head, didn’t it?

He shook his head. “Not much.” He turned to look at her, frowning. “How about you? Who ARE you?”

She shrugged easily, she had given up on asking herself that question long before. “No clue. I’m a dreamwalker. If I was ever anything else, I don’t remember it.” She started swinging again, humming to herself.

His frown was even more pronounced. “Don’t you care?” He demanded.

She gave him a sideways glance. “Not even a little. I like the way things are. I have fun, I move on. What’s the point of focusing on things I’ll never be able to solve?” she returned to her humming.

He seemed to contemplate this for a minute. “Because you have to care. Sometimes knowing what the problem is, allows that one day you’ll solve it. Ignoring problems won’t just make them go away. They’ll keep festering until one day they’ll explode all over your life and then you’ll have to deal with them, only they’ll be much, much worst.”

She laughed when he finished his speech. “Thought about this a lot, have you?” She jumped off again, landing hard. She walked over to him. Propping her fists on her hips she gave him a steady look. “Things will fester either way. Look.” She took a deep breath. “I don’t know what you’re deal is, and you clearly have a deal going on. Quite frankly, I don’t care that much. If this dream time is time you’ve taken aside to figure your nonsense out, then I’ll leave you to it. I, however, have nothing to figure out. I like the way I am, I’m happy the way I am. I want to have fun. If you want to have fun with me, I’ll stick around, otherwise, I’ll move on.”

*Formerly Dream a Little Dream of Me

I want to tell you a story. It’s a story about a boy and a girl, and dreams. Also love. They went through so much together, and I think you should know it all.

It's about being lost, and about finding yourself. It's about truth, and it's about hope. It's really just a story about life, all wrapped up in the soft mantle of a dream.

His dream.
