Kin's P.O.V
Getting back to the old church, I went straight to bed and passed out right away. I didn't sleep for long, however, I was plagued by nightmares of the mad prince and the angel.
All I saw in my dreams was Angelus in pain and covered in blood and the mad smile of the insane Prince Yokai. The dreams were hazy and once I awoke I didn't remember much of it but it still frightened me.
Angelus was the only thing that I thought of, that I could think of. I didn't understand how anyone would want to hurt someone so cute and pure. He was kind and was only thinking of his village, of course he was afraid of what his fate would be but more than anything he seemed to be worrying for his friends and family.
He was perfect; cute, kind, beautiful. I shook my head and got up. No matter how I looked at it, I was falling in love with him. This fact only made me more desperate to help him. I couldn't bare to think about what was going to happened to him if I should fail. I couldn't even bare to think about what was happening to him right now.
I had no time to waste and I left the church. It was midday and the town was full of people who were on their lunch break. I liked crowds; it make stealing things so much easier. In a crowd I could grab stuff with less of a chance of being seen and if I was seen I could get away faster by hiding in the crowds.
I was hungry but food would have to wait; this was the prime time to do my 'shopping.' I needed to get some weapons, I'd take as much as I could carry in the end but to avoid suspicion I'd get them over the course of two or three days. I'd need to carry all the ones I stole when leaving but when I did I would take back routes and avoid people. If I took all the weapons I needed now I'd have to go through crowds of people with a load of weapons which would raise suspicion and would cause me a lot of problems. It was highly illegal for civilians to carry weapons. That was just another law to stop rebellion. Should I be caught with even a single knife, I'd be killed on the spot.
It would also be a good idea to steal weapons from different places for my own safety. I decided that today I'd steal from the soldier's HQ. It wouldn't cause suspicion to me because we often stole from them, they'd just think it was more rebels and no matter how many times we stole from them they appeared to be stupid and didn't change the security much, probably more overconfidence because of Angelus. Slipping through the crowd of people with my hood up covering my face I headed to the big building that was a few blocks from the castle. It was a lot smaller than the castle but it was still huge. This is were new recruits were trained and lived. It was also used as an office space for high ranking soldiers and there was a prison next to it that was used to temporarily hold criminals before moving them to a bigger prison, executing them or in the past before the take over release them on bail.
The building had been quite the sight before. The garden was always well kept with green grass and colourful flowers, the building it's self had beautiful stained glass windows and huge wooden door engraved with flower patterns, it was like a small mansion. The inside was clean and sparkling, with elegant decor. Before, when the soldiers had been kinder and I was a kid my friends and I used to break in and play in the gardens before we were caught and taken back to the orphanage. Later when my crime of breaking and entering and theft became more serious I was held in a holding cell in there for a couple of days at a time before being bailed out. The cells hadn't been all that bad there was a fairly comfortable bed and they gave me decent food.
However, now the place looked like shit. We had made several attacks on it so the windows were now broken and it seemed that they had no intention of fixing it. The holes we blew in the walls were merely fixed by nailing in wooden planks and the grass and flowers were dying. The inside was still kept clean but it seemed duller and less sparkly, there was even a few blood stains that the cleaners clearly hadn't be bothered to properly clean.
I approached the building, acting normal. I looked around and when I was sure no one could see me I climbed the fence and jumped into the garden. The weapons were held in a large house-like shed at the back and I made my way over there with ease. There were soldiers training not far from my target so I had to be very careful. Training to be soldiers was now a lot harsher; some people even died. It was unfair, there was a lot of people who were conscripted to the army, they were the ones who died. If some volunteered they'd be treated nicely.
The trainees were rather distracted (they were fighting for their lives after all) and I manged to get into the weapons store. There was no one inside, I got lucky. Knowing that someone could come in at any time, I worked fast. I took two swords and then grabbed some throwing knifes, these would do for now and I slipped back out and back to the entrance.
I was about to get within climbing distance of the fence but I heard the gate open and I quickly hid in the bushes. I watched as I saw six soldiers enter, I recognised the leader instantly; it was the female I had seen the night that I meet Angelus, the woman who had cruelly laughed at Angelus's torture. She had stopped not far from the gate and stood with her arms crossed.
I watched, feeling rather curious. I knew it was dangerous to stick around but this was exciting. I knew that I shouldn't be taking risks as Angelus's life was on the line but I just couldn't leave, this was going to be fun and I couldn't just pass that up. I felt my heart beating fast in my chest and the adrenaline flow. I wanted to fight but I controlled myself. I'll just watch a little and then go... I'll leave for Angelus's sake, I thought.
I saw more soldiers coming out from their HQ. The man who appeared to be the leader was quite old and fat and looked really pissed of as he stomped towards the purple haired woman who looked clam as she greeted him with a slay smirk.
"Cynthia!" the man called angrily at the woman who unfolded her arms and put her left hand on her hip with her right arm by her side.
"Now, now," she spoke as if she were talking to a small child who was about to throw a tantrum. "There's no need to be so mad."
"No need!?" the man shouted as he reached for his sword that was on his hip pulling it out but as soon as he touched it the men who were with Cynthia had drawn their's and pointed it at him.
The woman named Cynthia laughed, she sounded just as mad as Yokai. She stepped forward with her left hand still on her hip, she raised her right and placed her index finger on the old man's blade and pushed it down. The act cut her finger and blood dripped down and onto the ground but she didn't seem to care. "There is no need," she repeated, there was a hiss to her voice that sent a shiver down my spine, the way she spoke and moved remained me of a snake. While I wasn't afraid of snakes at all, this was still frightening, she was indeed intimidating.
"You won't get away with this!" the man's voice was shaking and he was clearly trying to remain strong. As Cynthia had moved I could no longer see her face but it must be quite the sight if this was the effect it had on this guy.
"Oh but I will. This is a direct order from the Prince and you know that the King has said that we must do as he says. Unless you are going to disobey your King and Prince?" Her head tilted to the side "you helped us overthrow that old fool so you are on our side, yes? Or have you had a change of heart?"
The man was visibly shacking now, Cynthia had taken a step forward causing him to take one back. "O-of c-c-course n-not!" he stuttered before gulping and taking a second to right himself, now standing straight up as if trying to challenge Cynthia he spoke more clearly, "but this is madness! You can't make us give you more soldiers! There isn't that many healthy people and with your new training scheme many die before becoming soldiers!"
"That's not my problem, now is it? That's yours! The Prince is expecting more attacks from the rebels and just because he knows what'll happen before anyone else doesn't mean we'll win. At the end of the day you can plan all you want but in the end it'll come down to who has more soldiers, who has the strongest soldiers!"
She raised her right hand again and with it high in the air she pressed her thumb to her cut index finger in a way that caused it to bleed more. I didn't understand why, was it to intimidate the man even more? Because he looked about ready to shit himself.
The man seemed just as confused as me because he flat out asked her, "wh-what are you doing?"
She laughed again this time it was madder. "Oh? Don't you know?" she asked as if it was obvious "when it's master is hurt a dragon will always come to the rescue!" She was cackling now like this was the funniest thing she had heard.
As if on cue a dark shadow covered the ground and a huge black dragon landed on the grass next to the bush I was hiding in. I quickly covered my mouth with my hands in order to keep from gasping or screaming. I'd never seen a dragon before. They were almost extinct due to hunting for their skins and meat. The dragon was about two or three times bigger than a horse and it was scaly and shiny. It's skin seemed to sparkle in the sun light and it's huge webbed wings stretched out making it seem bigger. I noticed that it had a saddle and rains meaning that it was used as a mount.
The roar was loud and defining and lasted about ten seconds before it leaned down and sniffed the man who had fallen on his butt. It then looked to Cynthia and back to the man before it looked to Cynthia again as if it was asking what it should do with the man.
"It's alright," she spoke softly and kindly to the dragon, which to me seemed more creepy than the way she spoke before. "We need him right now so we have to let him live." She then turned back to the shacking man on the ground, "however should you piss me off again, I may let him eat a limb, you got that?"
The man nodded his head so fast that it was hard to see his face. "Yes, I understand General Cynthia!" he finally got out after opening and closing his mouth trying to find the words.
She turned around and began to leave with a satisfied look on her face. She only got a few steps before she stopped again and turned to the man who was beginning to stand slowly. "Before I forget," she spoke slowly, getting the frightened man's full attention. "Do you have any news on Lady Ara's son?"
"N-no," the man stated slowly "we've heard nothing, there is a possibility that he may be with the rebels but it is equally likely that he fled somewhere far away or died. He truly has disappeared. Are you sure that his highness even saw him?"
"Yes he most definitely did, there's no way he didn't. He came face to face with him, spoke with him. I want the search efforts doubled! Should he decide to fight against us it could be problematic. If it got out the rebels would have a huge moral boost. We either need him on our side or dead! Someone of such high rank being allowed to do as he wishes could be the end of us." Cynthia told the man and then turned again, ending the conversation and leaving no chance for the scared man to talk back to her or protest.
Seeing that it was now over I decided to leave as well, now that it was boring again. I slipped away and ran further away and got over the fence there so no one would see me.
I had to get back to the base to report what I heard. I didn't know who Lady Ara was but the way they spoke of her son it seemed he was important. If we could find him first we might win? That's what it sounded like they had been meaning. Some noble boy must have escaped on the night of the attack...
This was also yet another reason I needed to help Angelus fast, he wasn't in full control of his powers so even if they asked him to look into the future to find the guy he may not be able to do it but if he was really so important then it was only a matter of time until Angelus saw him in a vision. When he did, if he did, it'd be better to have him with us.
