The room illuminated with light and had awoken Elijah in the process he didn't want to get up. His body was sore all over his arms strained with the slightest movement and made him want to lay down and go to sleep again. After procrastinating for a few more minutes he sat up and looked over to the floor in front of the mirror. He looked at his tattered, bloodied clothes, immediately he was reminded of the events of the past day. His thoughts wandered off only to come to one distinct end 'What does the area where I was attacked look like?'
Heaving himself out of his old bed he put on his spare uniform and tip toed to his shoes making sure not to wake up the old hag or as most referred to her 'The Land Lord'. His shoes weren't torn but they were stained with blood. They were black formal shoes but he could clearly see the patches of blood that were on the top half of the shoes. He looked around to search for his sneakers. After the scavenger hunt to look for his sneakers he grabbed some of his money in the jar labelled 'FUNDS FOR MY FUNERAL' there wasn't very much but it was enough to buy himself the shoes that were like his school's uniform.
He trudged along the street he wasn't particularly happy because if there was a ruckus he knew that it would eventually find him. As he got closer to the crime scene he noticed a huge crowd of people. He knew what it was but he didn't want to believe it. There was a lot of chatter. People from his school and random public were there. As he got closer he heard a woman rambling on. He got closer and was mortified to see an actual crime scene where he has attacked. He stared at it blankly then decided it was best to avoid it. Unfortunately to his disappointment the old crazy hag caught a glimpse of him.
"There! That boy there he was the one who was attacked!" She cried.
The police looked over to him then back at her.
"Ma'am if he was the one who was attacked he would be dead" they replied. Elijah let out a sigh of relief then continued his course to school. On his way to school it started to snow. Little white flakes fell to the ground only reminding him of the cold temperature. He walked up to the school gates mentally preparing himself for the day ahead of him. This was supposed to be the day they start a new unit in their education plan. He always waited a bit before entering every time they changed the unit. It always got harder not only mentally but physically as well. A majority of monster hunting was attacking dummies. After he spent thirty seconds hyperventilating he walked through the gates avoiding all the people in the courtyard and made his way to his classroom. He was approaching the classroom door when out of nowhere he heard a familiar voice.
"Elijah!" He turned to see Emily charging towards him like a escaped rhino from a zoo. He turned to go into the classroom but not quick enough. She caught him from behind holding his hand. He looked at her then his hand, then her again. She looked at him then continued to speak.
"You're so mean you know, Derek didn't stop talking the whole way"
"Better you than me" He replied honestly. She looked at him in a disappointed way then laughed a little.
"New look?" She asked whilst she dragged Elijah into the classroom.
"I thought I might try something different" He said. Shortly after she let go of his hand then went to sit at her desk immediately she was swarmed by all the people in the classroom all trying their best to impress. It made Elijah feel sick seeing how hard they tried to win over someone. He watched them talk only to be shot down by her pretending to be an airhead. She acted dumb but he knew something was weird about her. It bothered him since they first met. He pondered that thought for a few seconds before going to sit at his desk. He turned his head and rested it on his hand whilst he looked through his window.
After a little while everyone went to sit at their desks waiting for the bell to ring. They all seemed to be very well behaved after Emily had arrived.
"You really like looking out that window don't you?" Emily enquired. He turned to her and just as his mouth opened the bell for class went off. His mouth snapped shut then he turned to face the front. Out the corner of his eye he could see her disappointment from the lack of a response from him. The teacher walked through the door and instead of talking like an idiot like he usually does. Instead he just wrote on the holoboard*
'New Unit: High Level Monster Combat and a Surprise for the best of the class' Everyone looked at the board with a puzzled face. The teacher looked at them then spoke his first words.
"Sorry I can't say what the surprise all I am meant to say is for you guys to try your hardest" His voice was unsteady like he was upset over something. His face was red and his eyes were slightly watery. He looked at everyone carefully then ran out of the room while yelling.
"I can't do this, I'm sorry"
After a few minutes a new teacher walked in he was a tall well built man he had a bald head and brown mean looking eyes.
"Your teacher just quit so I will be taking over" He had a very deep voice. The kind that you would find in a soldier. In fact this teacher resembled a flawless soldier. After those few words he put up documents and videos on the holoboard and didn't speak after that for the rest of the lesson up to recess.
As soon as recess started Elijah walked to his favourite spot to eat lunch. It was on top of a hill overlooking the basketball courts and you are able to get a clear view of MHO's main facility. He liked how nice that building looked. it had a half sphere structure that rotated whilst alternating between different colours. He started to rummage through his bag looking for his lunch when he realised that after the event that had just happened he was so occupied that he forgot his lunch he decided to sit there and wait till the bell went when he spotted Emily. She was walking with a group mixed with the popular girls and guys. She was smiling but then she spotted Elijah she waved while walking over.
Like prey avoiding a predator he turned around and walked away. He then proceeded to sit down on a bench near the sports shed. He chose to sat there because his next lesson was there and also no one really went around that part. He thought he got away scot free when went to put down his bag... Well the bag that he forgot. Emily appeared from around a corner holding his bag then walked over to him.
"Hey you forgot this" She handed him his bag then continued to talk.
"Why are you avoiding me?" She asked. Elijah responded.
"Two questions first: Why are you trying to talk to me? and second: Do you have some sort of teleport ability?" Emily laughed then sat down with him. She went through her bag then pulled out two lunch boxes bought from the school cafeteria. She gave one to him and he looked at her puzzled trying to play dumb.
"When I had your bag I noticed that you didn't have lunch so I got you this" She said with a smile beaming across her face. 'Maybe she isn't so bad to be around' He thought to himself.
"Wait... Why were you going through my bag?" He asked worried.
"Don't sweat the small stuff" She replied. The two then proceeded to eat their lunch silently. Elijah still guessing why she went through his bag.
