Due to the surprising lack of customers, Puck let Alison go an hour early. Alison protested, saying that Andrea probably needed the day off first. However, the waitress said she needed the money and had insisted that Alison go home and rest. With a smile, Alison agreed, and started her walk home. It wasn't as peaceful as she was anticipating, though.
"Put your hands behind your back!" a voice shouted from around the corner. Alison crept closer, confused on what was going on. She saw Evan arresting a light haired man, who was trying to break free of his grasp. Unfortunately, it was also in front of her house.
"Why are you arresting me?" the man protested as Evan cuffed his hands.
"For breaking and entering," Evan informed. He pulled the man to his feet, and caught Alison peeking around the corner. "I see you."
"Sorry," Alison whispered as she stood back up. The man whistled and smiled.
"Stop it," Evan warned, guiding the man toward the station.
"Is that your woman?" the man asked before Alison grimaced. She wished that people would stop assuming that she was in a relationship.
"I said stop it. Now move," Evan instructed before turning toward Alison. "I'll be back. I'll need to talk to you."
"Um, alright," Alison answered. He nodded before dragging the man away. Alison watched for a moment before opening the door to her grandfather's home. As always, it was dark and dusty. She wondered if she had time to clean it anytime soon.
It wasn't long before there was a knock at the door. Quickly, she opened it and found Evan standing before her with a notebook and a writing utensil she was unfamiliar with. He gave her a tired smile.
"Good evening," he greeted before she let him in. "I'm sorry for the scene out there, and I promise that everything is taken care of."
"Taken care of? What exactly happened?"
"Well, I was on patrol and I wandered down the adjacent street when I saw a strange man on the roof of your house. When I decided to check it out, I found that he was trying to break in. I chased him off the roof and was able to catch him in the street. I don't think he was able to get in," Evan explained, plainly. Alison offered for him to sit down, and she sat across from him.
"Well, thank you," she whispered. "What's with the notebook?"
"Um, it's standard procedure to get a statement from all witnesses. I would have gotten one when he was apprehended, but he was being rather inappropriate. That's why I came back."
"Alright, how do we do this?" Alison asked as Evan walked her through the process. He asked questions, to which she responded promptly. She didn't see very much, so there wasn't much to write down.
"That should do it," Evan answered with a sigh. He put the utensil away and smiled. "Easiest part of the job."
"I can imagine," Alison smiled.
"Well, I should probably get back to the station. Madson probably is driving the twins insane."
"Would you stay a little longer? I know you're on duty, but I know that Frederick has some tea. Would you like some?" Alison offered, nearly pleading. She was tired of spending her evenings alone in an empty house. It was also comforting to know that a police officer was in her home. Evan thought for a moment, biting his lip.
"I think a few more minutes wouldn't hurt," Evan replied nervously. Alison smiled and practically leaped into the kitchen. He stood and moved to the less dusty dining room. He watched Alison work in the kitchen for a moment, noticing that she looked a little frazzled. "You don't get a lot of company, do you?"
"Not really. When I first agreed to live here, I thought that Frederick and Lizzy would come by at least sometimes. I know they're both busy, but it gets to me. This wasn't what I was expecting, I guess," Alison offered, laughing to ease the tension.
"Lizzy? You mean the girl that helps Richard?"
"The very same. She's my sister, but I think she's forgotten that. Maybe not, but I haven't seen her in a few days."
"You could go over there and see her," Evan suggested.
"You're right, I should go over there. The last time I went, though, it didn't go as I thought it would. She was surprised to see me, but she didn't seem all too happy about it. I can't imagine being alone with no one for years, but I thought that she would be happier to see me."
"I'm sure she was excited to see you. When Lizzy first got here, she refused to leave the station. She helped us out, even becoming a secretary for a while. It was after she met Richard that she started coming out of her shell, which was strange to say the least. The man's practically a hermit."
"Lizzy is always attracted to more quiet people," Alison suggested with a shrug. "I am glad that she was able to find some people to trust, though. We thought she was dead for a long time. Well, I didn't, but my family thought so."
"She was gone for a long time. It's reasonable to think that way."
"It's true, but anyway, we should talk about something else. How was your day other than arresting that man earlier?"
"Same old, same old. Madson went to yell at your grandfather again while the twins and I did more paperwork. If my father would just sit down and do it, it wouldn't pile up to the point where he had to complain," Evan groaned, shaking his head. "One day, I hope he realizes that."
"Well, at least you got to go on patrol today."
"That's true. Saved some of your belongings."
"Yeah, all two dresses. Everything else is Frederick's."
"I guess, but it seems to me that you live here more than he does now. I haven't seen him live in this house in years," Evan mentioned.
"I saw him here yesterday. He was looking for something, but didn't mention what, but you're right. He isn't here a lot," Alison sighed before the kettle whistled. She poured the hot water with the tea leaves and waited for a few moments.
"You don't have to live here," Evan offered.
"That's true. The queen did offer for me to live with her until I could get home, but I think I would go stir crazy."
"There are other places, though. I'm sure Andrea would love a roommate."
"I mean, I guess, but I don't think I know her enough to live with her. She's great, but I would like to know her better," Alison informed, sitting down at the table with the two cups of tea.
"Well, you could always live with Madson and I. We have an extra room, and it's never quiet there. The twins also live there. Madson seems to be an orphan magnet," Evan suggested with a chuckle.
"Maybe. If I get tired of this place, I'll let you know," Alison replied with a smile. Living with Madson would definitely be interesting, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to live with the twins. They sounded difficult, to say the least.
"If you change your mind, you know where I'll be," Evan smiled before drinking the hot tea. Alison tried to protest, but he just set down the cup and smiled before leaving.
