The beginning of June for the Heisen Institute was particularly busy. Especially fort the members of the Administrative Department, which were on a hurry because of many events and occurrences the Institute was going through in that period: public presentations, technological conventions, various communications for the various media, issues of many kinds with the local government and international community to discuss about. The last weeks were also busier than usual to the other departments as well, since they had to compile many reports of the current situation of their sections for the special meeting that was going to take place the morning of the current day. At a certain point, a helicopter landed in the roof of the Special Defense Department, marking the return of the ‘Colonel’. Ex-Colonel, to be precise, but still called with his old rank. Henry Fürst descended from the helicopter, followed by his best six soldiers. To welcome the Colonel there was Miss Wittich, his secretary and de facto head of the entire SDD in his absence. After the formal greetings, the Colonel guided the group through the corridors of the third and last floor of the Institute. Wittich, walking a step behind the Colonel, explained to him the current situation in the city while they were outside attending to many missions abroad. She explained briefly the many occurrences of the last two months, including the bank robbery attempt and the case of ‘Lamb Head’, focusing in the intervention of the young students.
- So, the kids were having fun as well, eh? – said the Colonel, as he took a look to the many papers his secretary gave him – I see not all of them have gone through some kind of support activity in recent missions, though.
- Actually, most of those interventions were unauthorized. They acted on their own and against the rules of our institution. Sometimes even against the law – pointed out Miss Wittich, the memory of the extra work due to this behavior showed clear in her annoyed but composed face.
- I-it’s that so? Then, I’ll give them a proper punishment for their behavior- affirmed the Colonel.
- Do not worry, sir. I have made arrangements for that already. They just still need to realize the consequences of their actions – she said.
- I see… - “Such fearsome woman!”, he thought. Then tried to change the subject – Anyway, tell me a little more about the results, before reading the details.
- Our main force easily contained many of the cases in the last months, so I decided it would be unnecessary to take the student’s attention away from their studies. As you may remember, they are currently in their lasts weeks of studies. Ms. Erna Ehrenfeld asked me personally to give more space to the students to keep up with their studies. Considering the beginning of their military training in a couple of weeks, I consider this the best arrangement for them.
- I think you were right – the Colonel returned the papers to his secretary, then without turning behind him, he spoke to his men – Team, you may be free for the current day. I’ll meet again tomorrow in the afternoon to give you further instructions.
- Yessir! – at unison, the four men and the two young women that composed the group answered to their leader, going back to their Department section.
As the soldiers took their leave, someone approached the Colonel to his right. It was a man in his thirties, his face was the clear proof of the negligence towards his own appearance: beard not razed in a long time but short, bags under his eyes, gaze of indifference towards anything he could look at, almost hidden by his long and messy black bangs. The long white laboratory coat only added more shadiness to the character. Besides him, a young girl carrying some documents, also dressed with the white coat. Her bright smile and shining green eyes were exactly the opposite of the gloominess of the man. The two were like the day and the night.
- Oh, good morning, Doc! I see you’re as apathetic as always! – the Colonel greeted the man with a friendly smile, then he addressed a bigger smile to the little girl – Good morning to you as well, little Tea!
- Good morning, Colonel! – the sweet voice of Tea made smile both Wittich and the Colonel, as well those who were crossing the corridor in that moment –Did you have a nice trip?
- Well, yeah, we can say at least I made it back this time as well, haha! – answered the Colonel – Hey, Alex, are you sure that little sweet thing is your daughter?
- Do you need some DNA certificate to be sure? I have a couple in my office, since there is a lot of people that keep asking me that – answered the scientist with a monotone voice.
- Hey, little Tea, are you sure your father is fine? I think he could use the bed at the rest zone more often!
At the Colonel’s comment, Tea giggled for some time. Even Wittich, usually quiet and somehow cold, couldn’t help but smile, hiding her expression from her superiors. Professor Alex Rehn, head of the Research and Technological Department, in short RTD, was widely known for his great scientific mind and apathetic character. His daughter, Tea Rehn, decided to join his father as assistant at Heisen. Even if only fourteen years old, the young girl was able to handle the task without much difficulties, following her father’s work. The four had to cross both the RT Department and the Medical Department to reach their destination, the assembly room at the Administrative Department. Once there, Miss Charlotte Biel, secretary and second in command of the Administrative Department, received them at the entrance.
