Amy would never admit it out loud, but traveling by Goddess Express was awesome. From their family home in Calgary to Olympus Academy in Ottawa should have taken them hours, if not a whole day.
But Aphrodite just snapped her fingers and they were standing on the lawn of their new school.
“Hestia is over there.” Aphrodite said, waving her hand in the direction of a short building. She gave Yale an affectionate pat on his shoulder before snapping her fingers again and disappearing.
“I don’t think she likes me.” Caitlyn said, pouting theatrically.
“She doesn’t like Hephaestus.” Someone said behind them.
As one, they turned around and came face to face with a grumpy girl. Her hair was brown, but turned a fiery red near the end of her ponytail. The hand she held out to Amy was covered in a padded glove with bronze plating over the knuckles.
Amy shook her hand, but before she could speak, Caitlyn pointed at the girl’s shirt. “You look like Timulous Rimm!” She shouted. “Do you watch Trophy Catchers?”
The girl looked down at her half orange, half purple shirt. “I was a runaway. Didn’t have a TV.”
“You should check it out.” Caitlyn grabbed the girl’s arm, but she was shook off.
“Hestia’s waiting.” She walked past them and led the way into the short building and down a hall. As they walked, the air got warmer, like they were heading toward a bonfire. The girl stopped in front of a large door and knocked. “The Niel siblings are here.”
“Thank you, Hunter.” A voice called from inside.
Hunter opened the door and ushered them through. Immediately, Amy found the source of the heat. In the centre of the room was a large hearth, blazing with flames that nearly reached the ceiling. Beside the hearth sat a woman who must have been only 25 or so.
Hunter closed the door behind them and bowed to the woman. “Hestia, if that is all…” She trailed off, choking back a sob.
The woman smiled sadly. “Go take care of her.” Hunter bowed again and left.
Hestia turned her attention to Amy. “I’m so glad you all made it safely. There has been an increase in monster activity recently.”
“Aphrodite gave us a ride.” Yale told her.
Hestia giggled. “Of course she did.” She looked into the fire and nodded. “It’s late. We should talk tomorrow. For now, rooms have been prepared for you.” She produced three golden keys from her pocket and gave on to each of Amy’s siblings. “Yale and Henry will be rooming together. Caitlyn, you will be with Hunter, the girl who led you here.”
“Cool.” Caitlyn turned the key around in her hands. Sparks flickered around it and she grinned. “Flare resistant.” She concluded.
“As for Amy.” Hestia turned to her, no key in hand. “It’s rare for us to house someone who isn’t a Godchild. For now, you shall stay here, in my house. Willow can show you to the dining hall.”
As if on cue, the hearth flames blazed and a girl jumped out. All four siblings stepped back, but the girl was unharmed. Her hair was the same colour as the fire and her face was covered in heat marks. She grinned at them. “Who’s hungry?”
