I don't want to sound all sappy but I need to go down this road so that you may understand where I am truly coming from. I'm not your typical pretty, sexy or simply hot kinda girl. I know, it sounds cliché but, I am what most people would call beautiful. By most people I mean my mother and old ladies but, I take it. I'm your sober girl who hangs out with her friends but never gets drunk, your always designated driver. I am the sensible one. I think before I rush into anything. Most people might say I am uptight and have no idea how to live life. If you're reading this and see yourself in my words, take my advice
Fuck what people say. The world needs people like us to balance out the damn scales!
"Would you ladies love to join us for a few drinks?" Came a voice a few minutes later. Heidi had downed her drink and mine sat untouched before me.
"Uh-" I started.
"I'm Andrew," he said.
"Heidi," she said smiling, "And this is Kathleen." I smiled back the best I could without letting my overthinking show.
"What do you say?" Andrew asked looking over towards the table. The other two were smiling invitingly and I felt my stomach knot.
"Sure, why not!" And before I could have any words in, she had slipped off her chair, leaving me struggling to catch up with her.
"This is Keith and Todd," Andrew said introducing them.
Keith was your typical white boy, and I don't mean that as an insult, with his sleeked back auburn hair and clean shaven beard. His broad shoulders filled his navy blue suit as he sat swirling a glass of Brandy.
Todd on the other hand, was the kind of guy you'd easily get used to. He looked friendly, sweet and the goofy one of the crew. He was the kind of guy who'd do anything for his friends.
"So, a round of shooters?" Keith asked gauging our response once we were all seated.
"Oh yes, finally!" Heidi screamed. She was definitely hella tipsy! Matt brought us a round of shots and I could see it from a mile away, I'd be the only one remaining sober, like always.
"1,2 3," Keith counted round after round. After the third one, I asked Matt to stop bringing any for me since Heidi was downing them all.
I checked my watch for the hundredth time that night and surprisingly it was nearly 1am.
"Heidi, we need to leave," I said leaning in and whispering into her ear.
"What!" She yelled back spilling the drink in her hand. The last time I saw her that drunk was at our senior prom and that was years ago.
"Ok, we're leaving!" I said taking her purse and shoving it into my backpack. "Up you go." I took her by the hand, swung her arm over my shoulder and she put all her weight on me, making me stumble.
"Careful there!" Keith said his arms around me.
"I'm ok," I said. Thank heavens I'd worn my sneakers!
Yeah yeah...I know what you're thinking. What kind of girl wears her sneakers to go to a bar? Well, this girl!
"Guys, Kathleen is driving us home!" Keith said loudly.
"YEAH!" They all chorused.
"What..."
