Disappointment lingers in the air. “Either your kind keeps very poor records of mine or you are not as well-versed as I thought at first.” The dragon has furrowed brows. “I’m rumored to be the god of many things, but destruction, as far as I remember, is not among them.”
A sigh of relief leaves the summoner’s lips. “Truth be told, what little information I know of you is part of a fairytale.”
“What!?” Omega has an offended expression.
Solanus looks unsure of how to answer. “Sorry to be the bearer of such news, but the cult of dragons is… Not that the people don’t believe they are holy creatures, but… It’s been replaced for the Faith of The Six for over a thousand years now.”
“A thousand years…” The child repeats, trying to assimilate the idea.
The rogue whispers to the man beside her. “We ever had another religion? Never heard of that.”
“History books say so. Though it’s not common knowledge, with how few we have of them.” He whispers back.
“Can’t they make copies?”
“Yes, but would that serve their interests?” He pats her shoulder and returns his attention to the dragon.
The kid is muttering to himself, but before Solanus can speak the dragon has regained his composure. “If I’m but a myth, how did you know the way to release me?”
“A series of coincidences. Our escape route happened to be the sewers, the attack to the city shook the ground revealing your chamber, Kai was carrying a stone and it reacted to you.” The summoner opens and closes his mouth, there is more to say, but it might not be a good time; and he’s certain the god will make questions if he wishes to.
“And why has the Empire attacked?”
“I don’t know.” Solanus shrugs. “The Kingdom and the Empire always had their differences, but lately there was talk of a Peace Treaty through the marriage of the heirs of both sides.”
Omega’s eyes go wide, as if the information is very meaningful to him. But he doesn’t share whatever realization he had. “Where are you heading now?”
“The city of Enseada, at the northwest coast.”
The dragon seems content. “I would like to accompany you.”
“Of course, I’m honored.” Solanus smiles.
Kai, who has been silently watching the exchange, speaks. “I’ll tag along for a while too.” She takes the lead and moves her hand calling for them. “Shall we?”
The summoner starts apologizing for her lack of manners, but the child shakes his head. “It’s okay, mage. I will not get mad over so little.”
Being a cleric, and not a sorceress, he feels compelled to correct Omega. Only someone screaming in pain catch their attention. The party hurries to the source of the sound finding a woman and a group of imperial soldiers.
They have her surrounded on the beach, a dead horse not far from there. The armored girl removes her sword from one of her assailants’ thigh. He screams again and falls.
Solanus yells: “Undine!” And a small wave knocks the girl’s attackers. She uses the opportunity to finish them.
Turning to the people that helped her, the woman starts saying thanks. But upon seeing Kai, her eyes turn red with anger and she points a sword to the rogue. “You!”
