A few days ago, I woke up to the sound of thunder and rain pouring on my roof. This was surprising. It was the first time it had ever rained like this in this town. The rain pounded on my roof like bullets. The thunder was slight and far off. It didn’t exactly sound like thunder to be honest. It sounded more like a echoed howl that sounded every few seconds. I looked out my window to see...nothing.
My window was covered in moisture from the condensation. I wipe it away to still see nothing. The outside was completely submerged in a murky fog. All I could see were the torrential drops of rain falling from the heavens. I turned on my TV, hoping there was some sort of weather alert. There was in a way. It wasn’t exactly a weather alert though. It was just this emergency broadcast screen. It played a short, vocal message every 30 minutes or so.
“Attention all citizens, this is an emergency broadcast. There is a severe storm over your area. It is extremely advised to keep yourself, others, and pets indoors at all times. Do not leave shelter under any circumstances. Make sure that all possible entrances of your shelter are sealed at all times. No matter what you see, stay indoors. No matter what you hear, stay indoors. No matter what happens, stay indoors. This concludes the emergency verbal message.”
That message would play every 30 minutes or so, as I said. I felt it was strange. This was certainly a bizarre storm. There wasn’t even an lightning. It was just hellish rainpour and that strange sounding thunder. What did it mean by no matter what I see or hear?
It was just then that I remembered that dream I had. I remember I had a dream about a never ending storm. Am I having premonitions? Why? Several questions were running through my head. I should’ve just packed my bags and got the hell out of this town when I had the chance.
I picked up my phone to try to call Ivers. It didn’t take me long to realize that my phone had absolutely no service. Besides, I totally forgot that Ivers was in the hospital anyway. My lights kept flickering on and off throughout the whole storm. I first interpreted it as just a severe storm.
This storm started three days ago, and it’s still going. I think I’m going to go mad in this house. There’s no television. There’s no phone service. I don’t want to go outside though. With everything I’ve endured, I surely believe that going outside would be my death. There are people in the world who actually never leave their houses. Here I am, going mad from being inside for three days. As I write this, the storm is still raging on. I haven’t heard from anyone. I’m an officer. I’m sure there are people out there in distress, and I can’t even help them.
Hopefully, I can get this out without too much problem. As the days progress, that howling thunder seems to move around. One moment, I hear it coming from the east. At another moment, I hear it coming from the south. At night, I occasionally hear tapping on my windows. Once, I heard a loud knock on my door. I wondered who could’ve been at my door in this hellish storm. Of course, I didn’t answer it. I’m just going to heed the warning that the broadcast stated. I’ve also been having more bizarre dreams. The dreams were nothing too crazy. However, one of the dreams consisted of a lot of insanity. I don’t remember much from it. All I remember is the town in complete ruins. People were running around in fear. I stood in the middle of town. Before my eyes, I could see the Squealer standing at the horizon, approaching the town. That’s when I woke up.
On this journey, I’ve told you all a lot about what I’ve been going through. I fear that something is going to happen. I feel that the end is near. If I manage to survive that day, I’ll be sure to report here immediately. I’ll just be here sitting on my couch thinking. I’ll be waiting for this storm to end, but it doesn’t show any signs of letting up.
