“The best.”
She highly doubted that and voiced her misgiving as they walked into the park. He gave her a mock hurt look, causing her to giggle.
The very first thing she noticed once they stepped into the park was the complete and utter lack of other park patrons. The park was utterly pristine. She shuddered at the empty feeling. He truly was a lazy dreamer.
He stopped suddenly, causing her to bump into him. “So.” He cried is a loud voice. “What first?”
She pondered this for a few moments. So many options. “Something fast.” She decided at last.
He nodded and led her to a large rollercoaster. “Good enough?” He asked cheekily. It was truly a thing of wonder. She counted at least three loops and a corkscrew. In bright red, it sure did make a statement.
“Only if you can dream it all the way through.” She retorted snootily.
He smirked. “This ride? In my sleep.”
She snorted as she stepped into the cart. He followed her in, and the ride began. The slow incline went by faster than usual, and before she knew it she was screaming from joy as they flew through loops and corkscrews.
That first ride was quickly followed by many others. Rollercoasters, spinning rides, dropping rides, swings, water rides, even a merry go round. One thrill after another. The only thing marring the day was the utter quiet beyond the ride, the music, and their voices. The lack of lines was refreshing, but the emptiness soon got to her.
“Do you have something against people?” She asked as they wandered around after yet another ride. He frowned at her. “Because you have yet to dream one.”
He looked around, as if noticing for the first time the utter vacant park. “Wow, I hadn’t even noticed. No wonder I’d been enjoying myself so much.” He smiled crookedly at her, she responded with a soft chuckled. “Do you want people? I can try dreaming them. But,” He shrugged. “I don’t miss them.”
She shrugged. “Look man, it’s your dream. You want the park to ourselves, then so be it, other people be damned.”
He gave her an unsure look, but finally accepted her words at face value. “So, house of mirrors?” he nodded towards the attraction which had appeared beside them.
“Sure.” They traipsed into the building.
The whole place was a maze of warped mirrors. Confusing, disorienting and hilarious. They ran around, calling to one another and trying to find the exit. They re-met in front of mirror that contorted his reflection so badly, he looked like Quasimodo. They immediatly dissolved into laughter.
“That has to be the funniest thing I’ve seen.” She noted. “I mean, come on!” That set her off into further peals of laughter.
His laughter, however, had died down, and he was looking at her with a strange look on his face. Her laughter slowed, then finally stilled. Aside from the occasional hiccup when she saw his thoughtful reflection reflected so comically.
“What? What is it?” She nudged him gently. He shook his head and squinted at her. “OK, now you’re scaring me.” She poked him.
That seemed to wake him up. “Sorry.” He was still looking at her oddly. “It’s just- I don’t know what you look like.”
