The Story of Adelaide

Chapter 1 Page 1

Chapter 1 Page 1

Jul 26, 2018

The gentle breeze caressed the sleeping girl’s face beckoning her to wake up. The hard cobblestone ground dug into her back, but the girl laid unconscious, her tender face was twisted into a painful expression for her mind was replaying a horrible memory of the past.

Her midnight hair was like a blanket over her body, but if you looked close enough there were tiny branches, leaves, and flowers twisted in her dark mane. If you looked even closer you would notice her dirty bare feet turned brown by the mud she must’ve ran though. Her simple green gown was now stained, and ripped as if something was grabbing for her. But if you looked even more closely at her face, you would notice the tiny cuts, and bruises, and the small trickle of blood that stained her face as if she was eating raspberries. Her face twisted again as her eyes let go a small river of tears that tried to wash away her stained face.

What was causing her so much discomfort? If you could see into her mind, you would be looking at a battle scene, and a fire that burned so brightly that the night sky seemed to expose all her insecurities. Her mother, and father were nowhere in sight, The townspeople cried out against the queen, and king. Their arms reached out to grab her, finally noticing the tiny princess that was right beside them. The angry, judging crowd looked down upon her, and they spit insults towards her blaming her for what happened.

Their dark faces seemed to have no end, and they leaned down into her face, calling her a little spoiled brat. She trembled in fear, for the dark shadowed faces of the townspeople seemed to take on the image of demons. She didn’t know how to get away. Finally someone grabbed her, she couldn’t make out their face. But they became the only light in her darkness. She shrieked for even the light blinded her. “It’s okay Adelaide I’m here now.” The voice of her best friend called, and echoed in this heavenly glow. That was when she opened her eyes.

Looking around she was confused, she tried to recall her own name but came up with a blank. The images of fire were still fresh in her mind, as she questioned even what that was about. She didn’t know what was going on, as underneath herself she felt the cold still ground of the stone work, and pebbles that laid randomly around her.

Her eyes felt heavy, as she tried to get up onto her feet. Her eyes traveled around the courtyard, and the castle that was right beside it, a strange grey stone wall seemed to mock her dirty clothes as it’s bright, clean wall beamed at how her clothes were merely rags dipped in mud. She shook her head, dismissing the building as more thoughts bubbled in her mind, why was she in front of a castle?
