I'm in school, sitting on the edge of the theater stage, resting my feet on a bench bellow. At my side, there is a girl sleeping, and a few of my friend are in front of me, on a table, having some weird conversations as they are playing cards. As usual, I brought my Playstation to have some distraction. It's not like I would ever pay attention to them if I didn't have one. And, sometimes, my Psvita is just the right answer when I'm not in the mood to give them attention, so I hand it to them to play football or something. I would say it's like giving candies to babies.
The school year is over. Unfortunately for us, (and two or three other classes) we are on the first days of July, because we have extra classes. I don't want to blame anyone, but many teachers and substitutes we had along the year, were so... " irresponsible ", they would actually forget to come to school. There was this teacher named Parker, who ran away when a girl's father came here the same day he showed up, complaining that his daughter didn't have a single geometry class since the school year had started. Her father was a weird combination between The Hulk and Dwayne Johnson (The Rock). Meeting those two, in a very upset incarnation, might be reasonable enough to run away from your job and never come back ( as Mr. Parker did for the next 2 months, missing the entire first semester ). But of course, this is not how it exactly happened.
" Uh... dude? Are you alive? Or playing anything? " said Ricardo as I shacked myself out of my thoughts.
" You're not even ' smashing ' your buttons like you normally do. You're just staring at the screen like a- "
" Yea, I'm okay. " I stopped him, before he went any further. " Just, thinking. Thinking about stuff... but what's the matter? " I asked.
" I asked you if you were staying. " said Luke, standing up from his seat.
" Well, yea. Where are you going? " I said.
As distracted as they were, they ended up walking away without answering my question.
" Oh! We'll be right back! Just take care of our stuffs. " Ricardo shouted once he realized I had been left unanswered. I glanced at their backpacks all over the table, and on the floor. Some of them were girls bags. I was alone with Kate, sleeping by my side, technically on the floor, because we're on the stage. I wonder why does she feel so comfortable... I mean, it's not like I had never fell asleep here too, but she's here almost everyday.
" HEY!! What do you think you're staring at? " said a voice in front of me as she snapped her fingers to get my attention. I was unconsciously staring at Kate's chest.
I turned my head to see three girls in front of me: Ellie, Luna and Rachel.
" I- I wasn't doing anything! " I babbled without knowing what to say in my defense. I barely know these girls. We're not from the same class, but we have friends in common, which is why we hang out. But our ' friendship ' is just the ( as I like to call it ) ' Hello ' and ' Goodbye ' kind of friendship. Way to go Adam... now they get the wrong idea of who you are.
" I was just thinking. " I said, hopping she would just drop it.
" Yea right. Thinking of getting in her clothes? " Ellie said as she crossed her arms.
Rachel let out a laughter, but immediately covered her mouth with her fingertips. I felt embarrassed and rubbed my hand on the back of my head, with a forced smiled carved on my face. It made me feel a little bad. Ricardo is always talking about how protective she is when it comes to take care of her friends and the people she loves. And now, I must be on the top of her " People I should keep my distance! " list.
" Anyway, where are they? The boys? " Ellie asked.
" Uh... I don't know. " I answered.
Kate suddenly yawned as she woke up. " Starving for what? " she said, wiping the tears off her eyes.
Ellie sighed " Of course you don't... never mind. " she turned around as she kept shaking her head.
" Hey Ellie, you got a cigarette? " Kate asked as she stood up and climbed down the stage.
" You know I don't smoke, Kate. " Ellie wagged her blonde hair away to look at her friend. " But, we could go get some at the kiosk."
" Sounds great! " Rachel said, as she grabbed her bag and grabbed Luna by her arm, dragging her along. " Uhm... aren't you gonna bring your stuffs? " she whispered.
" No, it's okay. Adam can take care of them " said Kate.
" Uh, y-yea, I'll keep an eye on them. " I answered as the 4 girls zoomed out.
" You sure about that? " I heard Luna whispering from a distance.
" Yea, of course. " Kate answered.
" Yea right... he better. " Ellie said, loudly, making sure I heard.
I glanced back at her. " You could at least say ' thank you '. " I thought to myself.
