After breakfast, Emily and I got dressed and headed to Springfield for the party. It’s at some mansion that belongs to Bev’s aunt. Her aunt, uncle and cousins were all on vacation in Hawaii and they left Bev a key, knowing full well she’d throw a party. Bev’s a girl who’s pretty popular in our year and other years and Emily is friends with her. She’s actually pretty nice when you get to know her but when you first meet her, you probably wouldn’t expect that. She gives of that rich-kid-snob kinda vibe, but she doesn’t flaunt her money; she donates to charity quite frequently. I met her about three years ago in my freshman year of college. It was in a Burger King and Bev happened to be there with a group of her friends. She recognized me as “the guy Fynn’s always flirting with” and we kinda just hit it off. Of course, now, we don’t talk as often but we still say “hi” to each other when we see the other. But it’s not like we’re avoiding each other, it’s more like we don’t have time and we just made a silent agreement to not hang out unless we planned on it.
But, yeah, she’s a cool girl and there’s only one thing I dislike about her: she ships Isen and I. I’ve asked about this when I saw her and I only talked about it because Emily said she was “on the ship”. Apparently, Isen’s my type and he cares about me. Now, let’s get one thing straight. I don’t like him and I’m not sure why everyone’s talking about it but I should be happy. I could’ve been shipped with people much worse. Bad thing is, Bev is actually his cousin. She told me she asked him if there was anyone at the school who caught his eye and he said, “Maybe, maybe not.” I can already tell he was smirking when he said that. I feel like he knows people ships us together and that he couldn’t care less. If I looked like that and looked at someone as average as me, I wouldn’t care either because there are a million other people he could be in a relationship with. And I’m not even sure if he’s straight or bi or a unicorn! You should probably find that out before you start shipping.
I told Emily this but she just shrugged it off. It’s still pretty early and there’s only about a dozen people here in the mansion and I’d really like to leave before more show up. I’m not a party guy and Emily knows this. And still got me to come. That sounds so dirty and I am sorry for your virgin ears. Or eyes. Whatever works for you. Anyway, I stalk over to the corner of the room I’m currently in, which is probably the living room or dining room. I turn on my phone and open up tumblr. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Emily making her way towards me.
“Charles! This is a party. And the first one you’ve been to since freshman year of college! You should be dancing or at least talking to people here! You haven’t had a boyfriend since you were 14! At least try if you don’t wanna be single forever,” she nags when she’s within hearing distance.I give her an indifferent “mmhm” and she narrows her eyes at me. “Stop that! Take this seriously, Charles! I don’t want to be that “one girl” who has a friend that hasn’t even had his first kiss yet! A real one. Fynn doesn’t count!”
“But it’s not like I want a boyfriend. And just because I’ve never been kissed before doesn’t mean that you won’t love me.Besides, isn’t it better to be single? That way, when the person dies, you won’t be sad and you won’t have to waste money for them or their funeral. Think about it!” I shoot her a knowing look and shrug.
“Charles!’ she whines. “Stop being so pessimistic, it’s depressing, really, it is.
”Yeah, yeah. But just because I’ve never really had a boyfriend doesn’t mean I’m not happy. It also doesn’t mean that I don’t find people...hot?” I don’t know why that came out as a question. It’s probably because I’ve never said that kind of thing out loud before-much less with a friend. “And don’t be so worried about me! Enjoy yourself! I only came so that you could relax and have fun with people other than me and your little ship group. I still don’t know why you ship us.” I raise an eyebrow at her, wanting to know why. She sighs and replies,
“It’s because he’s looking right at you!” My eyes widen and I’m surprised at who I see. It’s such and unexpected face that I’m left baffled as he makes his way over to me. I look at Emily with pleading eyes, knowing what’s coming next. She sticks out her tongue and saunters off, leaving me with these words; it’s your problem now. Feed me to the dogs, huh? I see how it is.
“Hey, what are you doing here so early?” I have to look up to meet his eyes and that pisses me off. Damn giant. His voice is as deep as I expected it to be but it only makes him more attractive. “Bev said you and Emily’d probably come at a later time based on the fact that Boston is and hour and a half away from here.” I look at him very confused. When did he meet Emily and why did she not mention it to me? Isen must have sensed my confusion as he explains. “I met Emily a few years back when I was out with Bev. We bumped into her and we kinda just became friends. She’s mentioned you a lot, Charles.” A shiver goes down my spine as he says my name and I blush. Crap, this is bad. I can’t even talk to him without feeling gay thoughts, it’s so embarrassing. Isen speaks up, disrupting my thoughts.
“The things she says about you are very interesting. Like the fact that you don’t like photos, but look good in most of them.” He inches closer. My heart beats a bit faster. “Or the fact that, you’re not that confident but everyone still loves you.” He gets closer yet again and my heart beats more rapidly than before. We’re only about five inches apart. He grabs my waist and pulls me closer to him. “Or the fact that you’ve never even had your first kiss yet. So innocent, aren’t you, Charles. I’m surprised, though.” Huh? Isn’t is natural to be surprised when you learn that a 21 year old boy in his last year of college hasn’t even had their first kiss yet? A real one? Also, why did he move his hand to my waist? What he says next makes my entire body flush. “With a face like that and a body like yours, I’m surprised you haven’t lost your virginity yet.”
He leans down and stops about a centimeter before my lips. I look at him, tears welling up in my eyes.
Isen smirks and leans closer. He closes the distance.
