“It appears that it is finally time for the live and exclusive interview with the on-screen lovers of Lost Stars, the most anticipated movie for this month, and probably, of this year,” the female newscaster announces with a very jubilant smile. I know too well, and just as how Airin had pointed it out, majority of the girls around the world are falling head-over-heels to him; just as this newscaster also is. “Let’s give the shot then to one of our reporters, Nessa Ultana, who’ll be administering the interview with one of the world’s most trending love teams of today’s generation—Mister Brión Siadhail and Miss Katherine Joyner!”
The footage changes then to feature the supposed to be Nessa Ultana, a woman just by her mid-twenties with long brown locks, skinny, pale with dark blue eyes, and wore a fitted little black dress that is completely alluring or flirtatious. She starts, “That’s right, and thank you, Cassie.” She beams a very genuine smile. “This one is a very exclusive interview that we managed to have with the world’s most famous lovebirds. Brión Siadhail and Katherine Joyner.” She turns to the direction of the two who are yet to be shown in the camera. “We’re on live. That means it is evening in Ireland. Want to say ‘good evening’ to our viewers from Ireland, and a ‘hello’ to the rest of the world?”
The camera finally shifts to show Sam sitting next to Katherine inside a room that is completely covered in black along with their latest movie’s poster just on his other side. Airin instantly squeals like a little kid next to me, pointing out how perfect Sam Bryce Beltrami a.k.a. Brión Siadhail appears, but though I want to see him passed such appliance, I can’t help not to admire how perfect the two of them are.
Katherine Joyner is about few months younger than me with long and voluminous perfect dark brown hair, matching tender dark eyes, an easy smile, an olive complexion, and completely slender body; especially now that she is wearing a bright yellow Sunday dress that makes her the source of light in the room. And at the moment, Sam is wearing his trademark outfit of white inner shirt and a gray vest. Not to mention that he shows off his strong biceps with the fact that he had rolled his shirt’s sleeves until his elbows. Looking at them together, I won’t deny that they really have an unbreakable chemistry.
“Good evening in Ireland,” Katherine chimes with a benevolent smile and a small wave to the camera. “And hello, world!”
Contrasting Katherine’s jubilance, Sam smiles slightly and nods at the camera greeting, “Hello to everyone.”
The interviewer starts with the list of questions she have, as well as those most asked ones from social media sites. She though starts with the most common of all, of what the audience shall expect with their upcoming movie together. There’s even one question that asks if there will be way much more kissing and steamy scenes.
I didn’t realize that I snort at it. But I am glad that Airin didn’t realize it since she’d been too focus with watching and listening; not even one moment that her eyes lose its sparkle upon her undying admiration for Sam.
Katherine blushes as Sam chuckles lightly. If I don’t know Sam personally, I’ll say that he isn’t lying. Katherine answers first, saying, “My mother would approve of it, but my father won’t. So there are few changes made from the original script.”
The interviewer then turns to Sam, frivolous, and asks, “Well, Brión, are you confident about scenes like that? Both of you are getting older, and becoming way too perfect to be seen together. What do you think about shooting steamy and sexy scenes?”
“It is part of the things you must accept to do once you entered the industry,” Sam answers. “You could object for few scenes that you are not comfortable doing but there’s always a first time in everything.”
“Like your first kiss on-screen? That one you shared with Miss Joyner, for your first movie together, right? The one on The Way Forward?”
Katherine giggles looking at Sam, who smirks as if remembering that time. And it starts to sicken me on how anyone could take such conversation. I myself don’t even want to share such experience about firsts.
Sam finally replies with a laugh, “You’ve seen my first kiss on-screen with Katherine. But…that’s not really my first time.” He looks at the camera and has that boyish grin that will completely make any girl to literally melt. “And you know how unforgettable first times are.”
His grin does not affect me the same way others has. This time, it’s completely burning me alive into mere ashes.
“Do we want to know who this lucky girl is? And is it just once?” the interviewer asks, almost flashing a very interested smile about it. Even Katherine casts Sam a look, but her jubilance disperse much smaller than the previous. It’s just an obvious proof that she is jealous.
“There are countless other firsts that we’ve experienced together. Except for those that crosses the boundaries, don’t get me wrong. But in the future, I’m expecting that we’ll experience much more than what life could offer.”
“It seems that you are way too sure already that she’ll be your girlfriend.”
“I am expecting that she’ll one day allow me the honor of becoming my wife.”
The interviewer turns to Katherine for a moment, and inquires, “This will disappoint most of the fans of your love team, right, Miss Joyner?”
The interviewer seems to be a fan of them two!
“No!” Airin shouts beside me. “I won’t allow Katherine and M’fhíorghrá to be together! I heard rumors that Katherine has a relationship with another actor. If that happens, she’ll certainly just play with M’fhíorghrá’s heart! I won’t allow that!”
With Katherine Joyner’s beauty and career, she is the equal match of Sam. There are countless of boys dying to just meet her after all. The media make it look like Katherine and Sam are perfect together, that the two of them are completely too shy to reveal their true feelings to each other. But rumors has it as well that as Sam has this secret love, Katherine is actually linked to another actor named Andrik McLoughlin, whom according to some had been in a relationship with Katherine for about three years.
Katherine finally replies, trying to keep up a smile, “Brión is a little secretive, and every action he does surprises me. It is so hard not to fall in love with him, but I would tell you one thing: this guy’s really way too serious about everything. And if there’s really this lucky girl, then she better loved Brión back, because he is way too loyal.”
Sam laughs, looking at Katherine as they both share that look. “Remember that first time that we met on-set of The Way Forward?”
She giggles as well. “Director Moore is asking the two of us to finally kiss whenever we are ready, and Brión is all like: “I can’t do this. I can’t do this.” And I am there standing in front of him, telling Moore, “He can’t do it.” We need to postpone the shooting for that scene for a week, until he finally talked with Moore to tell him that he had already kissed a girl and don’t think that the girl liked it.”
The trio laughs, but Airin just keeps commenting how she really hates Katherine, and I am still here next to Airin, almost moving to the corner of the couch, ready to burst in too much embarrassment on what my mind is thinking about.
“So, will you tell us who this lucky girl is?” the interviewer retorts back the question once again after finally easing herself.
Sam thinks of it for a moment. I can easily see that he does with how he quirks his eyebrows. And after a moment of hesitation, he finally smiles much brighter and says, “My childhood friend is certainly the luckiest girl in the world.”
That’s when I could actually tell that I completely melt and reddened. I almost didn’t hear Airin said about Brión’s childhood friend needing to be announced to the public so that his fans could decide if they would really pair them up together, with my mind imagining and replaying a certain part of my life all over again.
It was just a dare about three years ago.
My parents invited the Beltramis to our house for a dinner, to celebrate my admittance to represent Ireland at that year’s Youth Olympics in archery, three weeks before I head to South Korea for the games. So, when our parents were in the living room to talk about an elder’s talk and with the youngest Beltrami with them, Sadie, the rest of the Beltrami siblings and me head to a spare room upstairs. In there, we played the spin-the-bottle; and the dare that Sam’s own older siblings, Emerson and Niamh, made the dare for me and Sam to do. And it ended up to be one that completely made me vow to myself that I’ll never play such game again.
The dare was to descifrar.
Or ‘make out’ on how North American people will think of it. And by that, it is easy to understand.
In the end, I ended up with kissing Sam for both of our first times in my room, on my bed, stopping before we even go too far in our young ages that time. But it was just as how Sam had said in the interview, it was the first, and within that duration, numerous kisses followed it.
Now that I think of it, I remember protesting against it, saying that I wouldn’t take the dare. But both Emerson and Niamh assured me that nobody except for the four of us will know about it, and though the next few encounters I have with Sam after that had been awkward… it slowly returned to normal, and he turned out to be much more gentle and caring for me. I thought back then that it’s just common that as we age, he started to be that young man being a gentleman that would just surround his arms around my shoulders, downgrade me with his towering height, and kiss me on the forehead as our casual form of endearing.
Now that I think of it, I don’t remember Sam protesting about the dare at all. He simply accepted it and took the reins of that moment. He was the one who had done the first move. He had looked at my eyes intently as my mind thought of countless of things, and the next thing I know, we were already kissing each other.
Sam is one big jerk when it comes to teasing. And yet… I always forget that he is a man. Not until now that he involved me again back to the media’s eyes even though that Sam had done every necessary precautions that no one will find out about his real identity and about me.
“There’s been a rumor casting in the web that you’ve been casted for a role in Star Wars, Brión. Is that true?” the question that the interviewer drops finally cut me out of my thoughts. I didn’t hear the questions and answers before this very one. But if this question was never asked, I’ll certainly continue daydreaming about it until Airin notices me.
I even didn’t realize that I’ve been trailing a finger ghosting my lips. For some reasons, Airin seems to be so caught up with the interview to even cast a look at me. What a total embarrassment it will be then if she finds me in that state?!
I notice that Sam had stiffen slightly when the question was asked. This is one sensitive subject to him; way much more sensitive than to be asked about his first kiss, simply because at the last time that I’ve talked with Sam, he was in the brick of conflicted emotions of whether to take the offer or not.
Sam sighs and finally says with a small smile, “I’ve already met with George Lucas and Colin Trevorrow along with my manager. They are both good people. It will be a great chance to work with Colin, and be part of the legend done by George. But before going here to New York to work for the re-shots, I’ve already decided not to take the offer.”
I almost drop my phone at that comment, but I am completely shocked with that decision of his. My eyes widen and my jaw practically drops, and it could figuratively reached the floor. I know how Sam badly wants to be part of the Star Wars franchise, but in the end, he is letting go off the opportunity like it is no big deal. For anyone, they’ll surely think of it that way. But even if I myself is aware of such conflicting feelings he has, I don’t know what difference it is right now for him to turn it down. After all, he had always accepted every film role that he likes despite his father’s protest against it.
“WHAT?!” Airin inquires. After all, she’d watched the entire saga of the movies all for the sake of seeing Brión Siadhail in Star Wars.
It appears that both the interviewer and Katherine are unaware of this decision of him that they literally gape at him. I could also bet that everyone watching right now as well does.
That may also be the reason why he apologized earlier to me before this interview… because of this.
The interviewer recovers a whole minute later, “Could you tell us the reason why you didn’t take such opportunity, Brión? I’ve heard that you are an incredible fan of the franchise after all.”
Sam smiles sadly as he casts his eyes downward for a moment, before looking up straight ahead at the camera that is currently showing him alone. “I’ve decided that with this… that Lost Stars made me realized of what matters most, that I am not too far from the end.”
And damn, I could swear that the moment I got to see Sam personally, I’ll certainly punch him in the face for not telling me about this decision of his before announcing it. Or maybe, that’s the very reason of his message, knowing too well that if I knew, I’ll stop him from this.
But when he said the next words, I know that even if I did know and try to stop him, I’ll certainly not win over him.
He states with a small smile, “I am retiring.”
